Hey there, folks! This is a compilation of my prior Archie Sonic videos. There have been some minor changes but, otherwise, it is the same videos you saw then. I just wanted to put this first set of them together as a single video. Unfortunately, though I have subtitles uploaded for them, they are still processing after about a week of waiting. The original uploads all have subtitles though if you need them. Hopefully they will finish processing here soon though. Also, I made a bunch of music that plays throughout the videos. Some people had commented about wanting to have the songs to listen to, so I made a second channel and uploaded all that music as a video there. I will probably be uploading more original music on that channel, so check that out and subscribe there if you're interested. Here's the link to the Sonic music: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omG0en93g5t4h9U As always, thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoy the video!

You have to admire; absolutely everyone refused to just hit the reset button. Even when the story was a mess, even the writers changed their minds last minute, even when it was the obvious easy solution: none of the lead writers was was willing to throw it away with a soft reset even though it meant they were adding to the weight of an unstable foundation, they believed it was worth while. Ian Flynn's a great writer, but his glory came from carrying the legacy of dynasty that everyone before he had also kept up.

Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being one of the pioneers to discussing Archie Sonic as more than a comical footnote in the history of the series. It was both refreshing and rewarding (as an Archie fan) to watch someone genuinely appreciate it all without looking back at it the same way seemingly every Sonic fan looks back at anything Sonic related: a hint of self-loathing and contempt.

Never read the comic but this retrospective sure makes it seem really kind of sad that the comics finally started to get good with a really good writer just to finally get canceled I don't know why but it always bums me out to just seeing or even hearing about any sort of fictional story that lasts for decades when it finally ends and no more adventures with those characters or at least that interpretation of those characters Also it's legitimately interesting to see how so many writers didn't know how to use the Sally character where at first she seemed to be a good character the leader of a resistance unit but as soon as her father returns and the first villain dies doesn't seem like the riders ever figured out what to do with her after that preferring to do a bunch of mellow dramatic drama about her dad's sucking Also I forget his name but that African American scientist guy that the writers forgot about and then accidentally nuked to death and the story doesn't even acknowledge it it just goes on like Sonic didn't just murder a friend

It was really cool seeing what someone who didn't grow up with the comics felt about them as someone who did. It's funny how much we line up in thought on things. And it was over such a long period I read them that this unlocks a lot of happy memories for me and will definitely be saved to revisit. So happy you liked the space saga too. That era of art and the comic covers is what's most cemented in my head, along with the classic goofy stuff always telling me to take scissors to my comics, which I could never bring myself to do. Also! I wrote Sonic and asked if he liked pickles (I was obsessed as a kid) and he said "Mm. Pickles are okay I guess. But I prefer chili dogs!" Had a cool Archie stamp on the letter. Made me so happy they wrote back.

I’ve almost finished watching this entire video and I’d just like to say I find it absolutely hilarious that, even in this 8 hour retrospective, Rotor is hardly ever mentioned and whenever he is it’s just incredibly brief comments on how he literally never matters. It’s really funny, despite being a “main” member of the cast and one of the main freedom fighters he just…never does ANYTHING. It becomes even worse when Tails gets his whole shtick as a mechanic, which used to be Rotors thing…so now he has even less of a use. It’s like every main member of the freedom fighters has some defining moments and character traits…except Rotor.
@gregm48135 ай бұрын
The main problem there is that Tails is the mechanic of the Sonic-verse, with Robotnik as the mad scientist. The Sonic-verse isn't fleshed out and complex enough to have room for two good-guy mechanics. So, it's natural for Rotor to fall by the way side. Sally and Bunnie, meanwhile, are filling a different niche than Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, etc. Not only is it easy to accept them as expansions of the Sonic-verse, but since they're some of, if not THE, original characters in their niche, they'll likely push out any new character who tries to take it. (Not that SEGA has attempted a character like Sally and Bunnie in the main series.) The other is that, as a mechanic, it's easy to shove him into the role of "background character who provides new toys for the main cast," rather than focus on him as a character. I've never watched SaTaM and it's been decades since I read Archie, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason Rotor never got anything: he just got shoved into that role, and then Tails took over as the mechanic.

as the comments have clearly stated, your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed. the early archie sonic comics are some of the most inconsistent, insane stories sonic's ever seen, but i and many other archie sonic fans have no doubt gotten so tired of that painting the reception of the entire run, including issue 160 onward. i truly believe that ian flynn's work on the comics is the best storytelling the series has ever seen bar none, and i'm so happy to see it get the attention and love it deserves as in depth as you go. your editing is stellar, the script's flow is so clean that the hours of these videos just fly by, and your analysis is thought-provoking to say the least. i can't wait for all of your future videos surrounding the comic's excellent run, i just love that era so much and there's so much to discuss - i know the videos are gonna kick ass!

Classic Sonic is an odd branding. Very little of it actually resembles what Sonic was like in the 90s. Classic Amy Rose is everywhere in the "Classic Sonic" branding.. But she was so invisible and relegated to the background in both games and other media that you honestly wouldn't have been blamed for going into Sonic Adventure 1 thinking Amy Rose was a new character since her only appearances were a racing spinoff on failed hardware and a small bit appearance in another game on failed add-on hardware (R and CD) In Archie Sonic Amy showed up for the Sonic CD arc and then was just a background character at best. Sega didn't really use her as anything but a damsel and the core cast had already been well established European fans were more familiar with Amy because a redesigned punk tomboy version with a crossbow was used to be the token action girl for the Fleetway Freedom Fighters as the Fleetway Sally was based on the original Sonic Bible where Sally is purely a damsel. But as an American kid who follow Sonic in shows and hardware that I owned... Amy Rose just felt like she came out of nowhere in Adventure. I didn't dislike her. Her hammer centric survival.horror gameplay was great and I wish see had more stages... But it felt odd that ads for the game claimed Gamma and Big were the only new characters in the cast when I never remembered seeing Amy in Sonic The Movie or Sonic 3 I wouldn't have used an age up ring myself. That makes it a little creepy. But... it's understandable odd hoops were jumped through when Amy went from being a throwaway in a CD spinoff no one cared about (outside of fans wondering what game had that cooler Mecha Sonic design we'd later realize was called Metal Sonic) to a mainstay of the main cast pretty much overnight Remember there was no internet back then. So we couldn't check the wiki or anything

Here's the thing about the B-stories in Ian's early run: They're backlog stories that's been sitting there FOR YEARS. The new editor at the time decided to roll them all out, to heck with quality. Actually, he had been doing that since Ken took over as head writer around issue 140 - there were SO MANY backlogged stories, you would not believe it. Or rather… you see it. Because they all got printed. That Titan Tails mess in issue 150? Yeah, that was supposed to be released a good forty-fifty issues before - four years! It had been finished and done FOR FOUR YEARS!! There were so many stories like that mess and the Rotten story you mentioned in your video. It's not really Ian's fault because, legit, the editor wanted them all out and done with, so they all got printed as the B-stories to some of the most banger hits in the franchise, often spiling the pace and dynamo A-story. It sucks but it's not Ian fault.

"One Way Dream" playing in the background at the end was so fitting as it includes the lyrics "We can go much higher now" which are not only fitting for the game it was featured in (given that Sega has seemingly "took a step in the right direction"), but also for the comics around that time. And in both cases, it was due to our man, Ian Flynn. Anyways, this makes me wanna go back and read from 160 all over again!

as someone who watched the knuckles lecture video on loop in the background when it dropped the latter half of this video was so satisfying

I love the continually changing tone of Rotor on your part, like, at one point, he was H Jon Benjamin 😂

Didn’t see how long the video was when I clicked on it. Needless to say, I’m on hour 3 thinking I only watched like 10 minutes. This is a damn good watch

I’ve been here since I’d imagine before you started the series and I’m happy to see the first giant half so far in one giant video so far tbh Proud to have a giant video combining everything so far. Definitely excited for the future

This series is such a godsend. I'd read random issues of archie sonic and sonic universe here and there and always thought that what i read was fantastic, but had no idea where to start. This gives me the chance to jump straight into what i feel are some of the best versions of my favorite characters, Archie Sonic fuckin rocks.

It's still weird seeing sonic, tails, knuckles, and all of the other original sonic characters alongside the other ones like antoine. You have this blue hedgehog, with a different mix of original elements like spines being turned into lockes of hair, fused eyes and bright red shoes, then you have a cartoony coyote standing up. Not a dig at him or any of the other characters, but it's just a good way to see two separate creative processes compared and contrasted.

Agreed! To me its the same appeal as Kingdom Hearts. Seeing these two things that clearly werent meant to interact, doing so.

crazy thing about this video isn't that it's 8 hours long, it's that it's 8 hours and still less than half of the story

Dude I was playing this video in the background while I was at work and eventually thought “man this thing has been playing for awhile”. I had absolutely NO idea it was 9 hours long 😂😂 when I first hit play I was expecting like 20 minutes

The Robo Robotnik twist is great. He’s essentially an Eggman that already completed the game, got bored of the post-game and started a new save file. He knows he can win any time he wants, but then he’d be bored Obviously they would have had to bring Robotnik back at some point, and on the outside it’s a fairly convoluted way of explaining the SA1 design change. But really, they brought him back in a way that didn’t undo the original victory, building on a long-abandoned subplot from years prior

The simplify that there is a direct line between Sonic, characters from image comics, therefore Invincible, and therefore Spider-Man is crazy

I'm sure you get a million of these but... You have GOT to do a series based on the IDW series. You're way too entertaining, I need to hear your thoughts about IDW having read all of archie.
