Very interesting video; I've said it before and I'll say it again, but North Africa history just has always fascinated me!

My grandfather (god bless his soul) who was a simple farmer and cow merchant ,was sentenced 3 times to death penalty for bombing a bridge in korba used by the french occupying forces and spent a great part of his life hiding in mountains (from 1946 to 1954) After the independence, many politicians in nabuel tried to honor him for his actions against the french but he refused, telling them that it's his duty to defend the land of his ancestors and to make sure the future generations have brighter future than he did When he was in his death bed in 2002, he told my mom that he doesn't regret any seconds of fighting against the occupation and defending not only his country but his religion and honor

If Italy is the master of the west Mediterranean and Anatolia the master of the east, Tunisia is the pivot point of the whole sea and region. Great video man.

incredibly well done! we need more videos like this, particularly for sahara and sub-saharan states that were conquered by the french during the scramble, as close to no videos exist about those (except for that horrid expedition by those two crazy soldiers who ate kids, yep not even lying)

Good video, though to be honest much of ottoman control (in the 16th century and onward) and later support of north western Africa was more on paper than it ever was in practice, as Tunisia more or less acted independently from the ottoman empire and during the later civil war most of the so called promised weapon shipments for example never arrived. But, I must say that I really like how you show how attempts of reforms led to the issues of economic and stability related that then led to ever greater subjugation under the french. Shows how reforms really need to be handled with care.
@StoicHistorian Жыл бұрын
Good to know, wish I would’ve understood that more about the ottoman control over the area. But yeah Tunisia really tried to catch up to Europe, it’s unfortunate what the French did thanks for watching
