Eastern European clothing is so pretty, especially Russian and Ukrainian clothes. ❤

Ukrainians decorated their clothes with simple embroidery and flowers. Russians decorated their clothes much richer: they embroidered clothes with gold and silver threads, pearls and precious stones, and sable fur. Russians have very beautiful and rich clothes!

The fudge and the costumes outlasted them all. I never realized red was such a popular color for men. I knew lumber jacks wore red plaid but they didn't want to be hit by a tree.
@r.c55342 ай бұрын
Good heavens are you that historically sheltered and uninformed. Red by it’s very color is a masculine color. It was/ is also the color of choice as providing an ornamentive cloth in contrast to the dominant browns,khaki, tans, greys, etc. for military uniforms. But in early uniform was the dominant color for many armies. Red is a very vibrant ,energetic,powerful color of presence and force. A most distinctive and definite masculine color.

The Rurick dynasty was the longest reigning over Russia.
@alexandervapnyar39792 ай бұрын
Correct. Roughly 700 years of Rurik dynasty vs 304 years of Romanovs reign. BTW, you could see here the princess Obolensky’s photo . Her family descended from Rurik. Different branch though, mot the one who ruled over Vladimir principality, that eventually became principality of Moscow and finally the Czardom of Russia.

They were an Imperial family. They were emperor and empress. A royal family involves a king and queen.
@Tugela602 ай бұрын
Not emperor, czar. It basically means king, but is derived from "Ceasar". Czar itself apparently was originally the title held by Bulgarian kings, and later adopted by other slavic rulers. Kaiser is the german version of the same word.

Great video! I first heard about this Ball over 50 years ago and always found photos of it fascinating--but never like this! The color is just thrilling in terms of adding interest. We shouldn't be smug about all the money these people spent on themselves for this event. What do you think Newport was like in the summer of those years?
