Properly named car. I love the old Caddies but these Buicks are great too

absolutely beautiful. I wasn’t yet born when this car (and other 50’s vehicles) were made but I have come to appreciate the attention to detail and the interesting styling cues that made each brand unique.

1958 lovers will certainly agree with you. Its a car that people either love or hate. The detractors will say they just went too far with all the chrome. If you buy one now make sure that brightwork is good or it will cost a mint to be replated.

THIS, right here, model year between 58 and 59 is my most loved era for design in the NA automobile. It has reached the pinnacle. Form and style had merged into visual perfection. Proportion had reached visual perfection. Symmetry, definition; and proportion; it was all there. Absolutely perfect! From reading the comments here, I seem to be not alone in the way I feel about the design and style coming out between '58 to '59. That it does get slightly better the following design year, indeed. This WAS the choice era where we find the most deliciously styled automobiles ever made in America. I am not afraid of that claim. Proud of it. I'me convinced it was the height of the post WWII boom and bounce back. We were saying fuck it, we sacrificed for 5 damned years with everything from a bottle of milk in the fridge, to the comfort on the bus that took us to work because we could not afford the gas to drive alone. We were saying fuck it, we have made it. We won, and here it is to see.

I lived in a town with two active Buick dealers and I never saw one '58 convertible - or that top-line station wagon either.

This is a car you don't see anymore in America. Probably because of the ones that survived, they're in Europe :)

My mother had a '58 Roadmaster in white with light blue upholstery and all the available Roadmaster options. This is gorgeous, but I am surprised to see no A/C.

Me and my brother inherited one of these, exact same colour and interior color. Number matching motor. It is unfortunately needs a full restoration, but have all the parts. Are they rare? Are they valuable?
@1940limited2 жыл бұрын
To think I had one of these once. I know what the production numbers are. I've seen a few come up for sale over the years, but most have long since kept their appointment with the crusher. Junking a car like this is hard to fathom, but it's where most of them went. However, a few are still around and nice originals, too.

Now for irony; the 1954 Buick Skylark, out of around 1,000 built, apparently ca 300 are still with us today. Nailhead V8, Dynaflo, PS, PW and all were convertibles.
@1940limited2 жыл бұрын
@@piercehawke8021 The 54 Skylark was a better car without all the foibles of 58s. There wasn't an Eisenhower recession going on in 1954, either. I'd rather have the 58 Roadmaster, but that's just a personal choice. The buying public didn't agree.
