I attended the race held on 1958, Feb.25th. where Fangio was kidnapped. The day before, he qualified on pole position. I turned 15 on Feb. 24th. The race only lasted 6 laps due to the serious accident that injured many and 7 were killed. I have 1 of the 100 posters autographed by Fangio on May 1, 1994 dedicated to the GRAN PREMIO DE CUBA Feb. 25th.

According to what I know and read, the revolutionaries have tried really hard to explain their ideals and their programme to Fangio, but he assured them every time when this topic was discussed, that he was into cars and racing, and does not know (or care) much about politics. However he has accepted at face value, that his kidnapping was "for the greater good". After he was set free by the revolutionaries, he reportedly said: "If what the rebels did was in a good cause, then I, as an Argentine, accept it."
