Thank you for watching this 90s Sports Nostalgia video about the 1996 Wyoming Cowboys with Joe Tiller, Josh Wallwork, Marcus Harris and the BYU Cougars in the first 1996 WAC Championship game with Lavell Edwards and Steve Sarkisian. Wyoming should've been playing in the 1996 Copper Bowl.

I really liked this '96 Cowboys squad. Back then, when I thought going to a bowl game really meant something special, I was extremely disappointed when Wyoming did not get that chance to play an extra game. Nowadays, I really don't know what to think about the college football bowl season. Thanks for all of the support. Let me know what you think.

Wyoming, Arizona State. My 2 favorite Uniforms/Helmets from the 90’s

First, I want to say, thanks for being a subscriber. Next, wow, I thought I was the only one who liked Wyoming's uniforms. I like your two choices. I really appreciate your comment because I enjoy seeing what others think in terms of items like uniforms. There may not be another human on earth whose two favorite uniforms from the 90s were Wyoming and Arizona State. You're awesome.

Played on that team. #28 in the video. It was devastating to watch an 8-4 team in our conference get the bid over us who were 10-2. The NCAA tried making up for it by having us open the 1997 season at #9 Ohio State for the Eddie Robinson Kick Off Classic. A closer game than the Buckeyes were hoping for losing 24-10. Was 17-10 til very late in the 4th Quarter. Finishing the season 7-6. No Bowl. Played our 2nd game at #12 Georgia in 1998. That team was littered with NFL Draft players and current Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart. A tougher match than they wanted. Losing 16-9. They didn't seal the deal til the last minute of the game. Finished the season 2nd in the Mountain West and an 8-3 record. Again no bowl. 1999 opened up at #3 Tennesee. They were just coming off of winning the National Championship. Again an over abundance of key NFL players on both sides of the ball. At halftime we were diwn 10-7. In the 2nd half they rolled us due to a complete meltdown of execution on both sides of the ball. Not to mention we started 4 freshman Olineman. Final score 42-17. One of only 3 ass whippings in 4 years at Wyoming. Finished the season 7-4 and finished 4th in the MWC but beat #1 BYU in the Mountain West Conference. Ranked 15th at the time and Beat the 3rd best team that year in the MWC in Utah at Utah. Again no bowl game. It was a joke. Bottomline is we were the true embodiment of Wyoming tough just didnt get to reap any rewards of going to a bowl. If thiscwas today we would have went to a bowl every year! I love seeing the Pokes in bowl games today and the successes in rebounding the program through Coach Bowls. It stings a bit to be honest for the Pokes who played from 1996-1999. Can't change history but glad things turned out better for future Wyoming Cowboy Football teams. Go Pokes 4 Life. 1996-1999 Cowboy teams need to be celebrated and educated to all Poke fans or College Football fans. History. The landscape of College Bowls was changed forever after our story! Not the only reason for the added bowl games but definitely a big reason for the changes! Tim Beasley RB 1996-1999 "Buck Buck Nation" IYKYK

Tim, thank you so much for the comment. Sorry for the late reply as I wanted to set some time aside to read your comment. To begin, congrats on being a RB in Division 1 football. Only a very few can say that, so congrats on your achievements. I remember that Ohio St. game and Tennessee game wanting you guys to win. I missed that Georgia game. But what I wanted to say, is that back then (I'm sure you know this), college football teams would only play 11 games in the regular season, unless they had a kickoff classic game, had to travel to Hawaii for a game or played in their conference championship game. Having a 12th game can be beneficial so to me, that's very interesting that the NCAA tried to make it up to you guys with Wyoming opening up the season at Ohio St. Great to know that as that's very interesting to me. But the items that really made me enjoy reading your comment were your 5th and 6th paragraphs. I really like what you said about what the true embodiment of Wyoming is. Furthermore, I appreciate when you said "It stings a bit to be honest for the Pokes who played from 1996-1999." As a fan, it always seemed like such a privilege to play in a bowl game and was never sure what players felt. Wyoming was such a solid program. I loved that 1996 team and I really respect the Cowboy teams from 1996-1999 and felt bad that you and your teammates never went to a bowl game. Lastly, you are correct (of course) as things did change with the bowls after what happened to Wyoming. I don't think I mentioned it in the video, as I found a good place to end the video on, but I think after that 1996 season, changes were made, I forgot from who, but if a team loses their conference championship game, they will get a college bowl berth or something like that. But if you read this, please let me know how else did bowl games change after the Wyoming Cowboys in the late 90s. I would like to know. Thanks again for the comment. It was an awesome read. I wish the best for you and take care. Wyoming will remain as one of my favorite college football programs.

Thank you so much for posting this, Tim! Very fond memories of your teams. Lifelong 'Pokes fan here, Wyoming native and UW alumni. Those bowl game snubs really tanked the program for years, as recruiting against us was so easy for other coaches. "Don't go to Wyoming. Even when you win, you won't get a bowl game "

RIP to the pre-'99 WAC conference. Damn I miss the days when there were less than 20 Bowl games. And even then, that was a lot. Now it's absurd. Anyway, thanks for this spotlight. Can't wait to see what you have next coming down the pipeline. I'm always hoping for another football video since that's my favorite sport, but anything from you is great regardless. Cheers, and happy holidays.

He did great things at Purdue. He made them competitive right away as it was nice seeing a different offensive philosophy in the Big 10. Thanks as always for your comments and you viewership. I really appreciate everything Jon.

Big Pasty - I hope you liked those Wisconsin images near the end of the video with Ron Dayne and Wisconsin destroying Utah. I remember Utah going to that Copper Bowl but forgot they played Wisconsin. The bowl game that comes to mind with Ron Dayne is the Rose Bowl. Next video will be about Dave Krieg and then the Clem Haskins ('97 Gophers) video. Hope all is well with you. Take care and Happy Holidays.

I think the intentional safety was a horrible call that is saying that you don't trust your defense but with it being that conference maybe he had a lot of experience not to trust his defense

Up by 6 points is obviously fine, but up by 5, that's a really tough decision. I was arguing with my father as I was defending Joe Tiller at the time. But when I was doing this video, I think I realized that taking that intentional safety was not the right call. I remember after the game, coach Tiller said he would've done it again. I like how you said "being that conference" knowing that WAC games can be crazy. Thanks for the comment. I really like it. And thanks for being a sub.
