I’m really considering this monitor. I’m not overly fussed on the minute little flaws here and there in terms of the performance. Finding a HDMI 2.1 monitor that’s perfect at this price point is next to impossible. I really do prefer 30” over, anything below is a little too small. But I’m glad to see this one holds up. As a console gamer who is just looking for the HDMI 2.1 functionality I hope this will be a sufficient monitor.

Possibly for end of month: We see a lot of these 4K monitors with refresh rates. However getting high FPS simultaneously with 4K is no easy task, especially while using Ray Tracing. So my question is: could manufacturers produce a say 90Hz max refresh rate monitor with VRR and use those "savings" in order to improve other aspects of the performance (bringing the cumulative deviation and ghosting rates down across the VRR range, and improving color accuracy overall) or even lower costs and selling price? Also cutting their fake HDR support while they're at it, imho. Or is this just not how monitor building works? Thanks.

@@kanpeki3033 a lot of factors are involved in unit pricing, in my opinion part of the problem is people overvalue rgb, those who don't care for rgb expect to get a much better deal and when they don't they go and buy the rgb garbage to feel like they didn't get ripped off. This is why we don't have a better selection of non-rgb products for gamers.

Thank you to Tim for reviewing this product. I would suggest that every single future monitor advertised as "HDMI 2.1" needs to be checked for the bandwidth available on those ports. It is so depressing to read the spec of this monitor on Gigabyte's website. It reads in the note: "HDMI 2.1 supports PS5 and Xbox Series X at 4K UHD@120Hz (4:2:0)". What does this mean? Does it mean 4K/120 8-bit 4-2-0 (18 Gbps) or 4K/120 10-bit 4-2-0 (20 Gbps)? Can it process 4K/120 10-bit signal from consoles and GPUs at 18 Gbps? The HDMI spec would not allow this. Does the monitor support TMDS signalling only or FRL too? If it supports FRL, does it support FRL3 only (up to 24 Gbps), FRL4 (up to 32 Gbps), etc.? Tim, could you please, check this with Gigabyte? There has been so much inadequate marketing of HDMI 2.1 features and port speeds.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the HDMI 2.1 being capped on these monitors. It can only do 4k@120Hz with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling. It can only do 4:4:4 with DSC, which the PS5 doesn't support. While you _can_ use DSC on PCs, there will be quality degradation relative to non-DSC and I don't like calling it an HDMI 2.1 monitor if it doesn't support the full bandwidth of HDMI 2.1.

Apparently the bar is so low all you have to do to sell these days is... 1. Be in stock 2. Don't explode.

I ended up picking this one up for $1050 AUD, given that true HDR at 4k 144hz will cost a kidney from what I understand did I end up getting a decent deal based on this? It's to be used with my RTX3070 I just picked up hoping to play some nice single player games in immersive 4k.

@@renzoarana3018 good so far, I wouldn’t say it the biggest buff for monitor quality to provide a technical review but anecdotally it’s doing beautifully for 4k 144hz which was my main price point. As long as you’re not expecting any type of HDR!

careful about the cells durability if you plan to use this TV for more than 5 years. oled is still a very disposable tech that ages poorly. Also there are a couple of weaknesses about this product (very low brightness, glossy screen finish, poor color calibration) that can be a no-go depending on your use case.

That thing isn't worth $1000. The panel is mediocre at best. They should change the model number to R1P00F. Also did you test it vs Adaptive sync only? Or also against G-SYNC as some of these monitors are G-SYNC ultimate rated with an onboard module

i recently discovered an important consideration in the 27 vs 32 debate. Head and eye tracking devices, including the popular Tobii Eye Tracker 5, only work with monitors up to 27”. So if you want to make the most of flight sims and space sims like Star Citizen, then 27” might be your only option.
@cmelft2463

Funny you say that, as i feel 32inch is the minimum size for racing sims.
@michaeljemery
@michaeljemery 3 жыл бұрын
@@cmelft2463 That’s the problem though. You now have to choose between head and eye tracking or a larger screen. And the larger the screen, the more likely you’ll need head and eye tracking.

Why are there no 16:9 monitors in the 33” to 40” range?
@moldyshishkabob
@moldyshishkabob 3 жыл бұрын
Not informed at all, but if I had to guess, 27" and 31" panels have probably just been standardized for so long that they would need to retool something to make 33" a thing. Currently, "not worth the investment".

All I’m saying is there is a big gap in 16:9 display size between 33”- 40”. And it is the biggest gap in display size between 17”- 65” (in inches).

Hopefully they will start making monitors in that range of sizes going forward, especially with 4K high refresh slowly becoming more available. 16:9 at 40inch diagonal in an ergonomic monitor format would be amazing, especially in 4K at high Hz.
