I have all of these cards. I started collecting in 1975 at age 10 and still have all of my cards. The first packs I ever opened had Brett and yount rookies.. I'm glad I kept them. I have a complete 79 set. The last card I needed was was Ozzie Smith rookie... It was about 10 bucks in the early 80s and I didn't want to pay that much but I did finally buy one back then. I need to send some into PSA.

I wouldn't. You will spend a bunch of money getting them graded ... you will swear you have cards that would grade out at 8's and 9's and they will come back as 4's or 5's which will make them worth less than the cost of getting them graded. It's a total racket and borders on being a total scam. Been there ... done that.

Purchased a 1977 Topps complete set when they came out in 1977. Still in the original box and never took any of them out. Started collecting in the late 60's but this was the first complete set I ever purchased. $15.99 back then. Wished I would have bought more sets of course ....

Incredible how untouched by time Nolan Ryan's popularity is. A 7th year psa 8 Ryan gets more than the RC of the greatest Brewer ever in Yount, RC of a guy in the goat shortstop discussion in Smith, and only gets edged out by the RC of the greatest Royal ever, George Brett. Long live Nolan Ryan, the biggest name in the hobby after Mantle.

Chris. Thank you for finally putting an identifier (EX) next to "Raw". From my understanding, your (EX) citation states the average raw card from the 70s is indeed in EX condition. I agree with this assumption. This also fills a logic gap that you have left unfilled and that is why I have always operated under the assumption that you "lowball"" ungraded cards. I now understand that it's not that you undervalue them, it's just that you speak about them in general terms as raw/ EX cards. This does bring up a question though. How do you go about estimating high-grade/great eye-appeal vintage raw cards? Knowing that the ranges between PSA 7, 8, or 9 are highly subjective within the industry makes the notion of paying top dollar for raw cards a very risky proposition.
@collectorinvestordealer
@collectorinvestordealer Жыл бұрын
I would say 99% of 70s collections I see range from poor to EXMT, with the majority being from vg to ex. There are very few high grade raw 70s collections at this point. If I come across one, I certainly factor in potential values with grading, which comes with experience.

I love the lists, as always. Though with the not inclusion of the 75 mini cards, I kinda feel they should count. Was just wondering,if that might be, if any of the mini versions, would or do, command a higher price, for any of the already, wildly valuable,standard cards? Also, how much does their more rare, I'd imagine, they are, but, likely not more valuable, in terms of auction sale numbers. Perhaps there are examples that may be out of step with a standard, or typical, rule of thumb. And, if it's something you are privy to, how does condition grading, compare? Lack of tens? Just curious, if you may have looked into any of the questions I am having ..
@collectorinvestordealer
@collectorinvestordealer Жыл бұрын
The minis are definitely rarer, and I think raw sell for a little more than the standard size. But in higher graded condition, I have noticed they generally sell for a little less than the standard cards.

@@collectorinvestordealer you are awesome my man! I was able to grab a number, of each addition. My local shop, scored on a pile of each, most every star. Between his one employee, and myself, we were able to get our pick, in very gradable, 8s. Possibly a 9 or two. For less than raw pricing. I felt a need to go, took a taxi, perfect timing. I got lil'george, big yount. I grabbed mini Hank,Reggie, and a stellar big Dave Winfield. I wish I had chosen a few more, and surely would have, if it weren't for the same star studded piles, of 70,71, 72, and a few 73s, 74s. 71,74,Munson. 70,72,73,Mays. 70,73,Clemente.,70,72,aaron. 72 Nolan ryan.I was told of a guy that was there earlier, when the collection came in. He grabbed stellar 71s, of everyone. And all the Nolan's but one, he already had a Munson rookie, thankfully! Reason I boast in this post,or reply... I've seen where you have had cards sent your way. I am certain from what I have seen,for a long, informative, and grateful time, that you are as genuine and sincere as they come. Remarkably rare thing, in this modern world. Perhaps you can, possibly assist me in some grading and selling of some choice cards, I'd be happy to work a partnership deal. You may even choose to make a feature out of it. I was also wanting to send you some rare ripken low pop, inserts from the early 90s. I seem to get him, in old packs, at a improbable/impossible, rate. Going for my player, Griffey. I got 4, 92 fleer team leaders, for example. That other black boarder insert, same year. Oh, got a pop up 88 donruss. Tho it says 87, on the back. Came with weird 88 donruss.... Idk. It's yours either way. Even if you are too busy to help. Just for the wisdom and help you have given me. Cards and coins. Anyhow, let me know what's best, to get things out to you. Thanks, again. You know what a lot, I mean a lot of people, don't realize. Old baseball cards are like vintage cars. When selling a vintage car, people ask a ridiculous price on a car saying, I saw my car sell on Barrett Jackson for 80K. Yeah, that was for a perfect condition car, perfect. Prices on baseball cards are the same way, a card not in perfect condition isn't worth that much.
