The 2003 Looting of Iraq's National Museum: "Stuff Happens"

On April 1, 2024, Dimitri Lascaris visited the Iraq National Museum in Baghdad. In 2003, as U.S. tanks and troops approached the museum in the criminal invasion of Iraq, museum staff fled for their lives, leaving the museum unprotected. At that point, thieves entered the building and stole a vast, unknown number of precious artifacts. When Donald Rumsfeld, then U.S. Defence Secretary, was asked why U.S. forces did nothing to stop the looting, he replied dismissively "stuff happens".

The looting of the museum was not in the lead-up to the Americans taking Baghdad, but rather in the wake of the capture. There was a US tank on the corner of the street, but they did nothing. You should have talked to the museum staff; they're quite friendly. There's an international relations section.

That was reported in the early years by people I know as having been loaded on trucks by the US et al invaders and looted out through the southern border.

Thank you mate thank you very much for this. This will go down in history after all the dust settles and we start talking about how to get all our stuff back into the Middle East you will be someone who is mentioned to go look at for information in the future. Cheers and keep going. Please also visit Syria and find out about the Chinese black flag fighters held up in Idlib. China is talking about sending troops to deal with them. Go to the religious holy sites such as Najaf and show us what has been destroyed. It’s already been documented in Arabic but nobody can know about it coz it’s not English.

Indeed. As I already commented, the Izrahellis were reported as already setting themselves up in Baghdad in the first 30 days of the invasion, it was Izrahells war after all.

Yes indeed. I remember very well that moment when the looting occured. It was a very sad moment and we can be suire that many of those artefacts are sitting on the mantles of mansions and palaces all over. I would even imagined that some polticians got their hands on some of them.
