My mom had two of these when I was growing up. Both black on black, with the “secret ss” option. Only had the badging inside the car and I’m one spot on the outside. I remember one day, my little brother and I were sitting in the back (I was like 7 and he was like 5) and my dad was sitting in the passenger seat after a long day of work. Mom was driving. A kid in a fox Body mustang came with a bunch of other teens and what we assume was his GF sitting in the front seat. Started hitting the throttle at the stop light, and all his friends started egging him on. Then my mom, KILLED this kid when the light changed. With 2 kids in the back. When he finally got up to the next stop light, his head was hella low, gf wouldn’t look at us or him, and his friends in the back were giving him all kinds of hell.

Everybody here talking about the transmission. It was never the trans. It was the design. You have a powerful engine that gets hot 🥵 sitting on top of a transmission with a small ass trans cooler. It’s a bad design flaw.
@theroyalcrownedtiger29464 жыл бұрын
If it's got no issues with transmission, just upgrade it with a large sized universal transmission cooler, to keep the transmission running at lower temperatures. And if the engine runs hot, just remove the thermostat, and run without it, the engine will run alot cooler. Driving without thermostat would not be recommended if it's being driven in cold climates / winter, as you would have no or very little heat.

Bargainteers You’re partially correct, but the transmission itself has been know to let go even on cars with lower power figures. The transmission itself just wasn’t capable of handling much more than 240 horsepower even in HD form. If they would have just put in the 4T80 that was paired up to the Northstar engines at the time, there’d be far less issues.

I owned a 2006 Impala SS. The reason I sold it was because it wasn’t reliable! These cars are notorious for their transmission failing! This is part of the reason you don’t even see many of them. They’re all sitting in someone’s backyard or shed because it’s in need of a transmission which cost upwards $2500. And if it isn’t a custom built transmission and it’s just another Impala SS, be prepared to dish out another $2500 again when that one fails. I have a friend who put 3 transmissions in his Impala SS. On a positive note. They are ridiculously fun to drive! I had my straight piped and it sounded like a monster! It would always surprise guys in chargers and corvettes on the highway lt was always a challenge and fun blowing pass cars when they think it’s just a regular v6! I do miss it but it wasn’t worth the headache.

First off I have an 09 SS and I love that damn car! Never really had an issue with. I changed plugs and added bigger wires ans that improved throttle response and my gas mileage improved so much. The weakest leak is the transmission hands down. GM cheaper out with it but on the upside they are rebuild kits or buy one that damn near bullet proof to take the punishment that V8 makes. Love my SS and surprised hell of a lot people with it at the red light and only has 70,000 miles!

Why I bought a 2011 LTZ with the 3.9L V6. Last year they made the 4 speed trans & 3.9L motor (most bugs should be fixed). Bought the car 4 years ago with 121,000km on it, rolled over 250,000km last week. Zero issues since the V6 doesn’t rip the trans out lol, still has 240hp & 235 ft-lb at 3500RPM 🤷🏻♂️

All I’m gonna say is the person who made this must has never owned a LS4. Owning an LS4 is like having a LOVE HATE relationship. The active fuel management or displacement on demand is hated by just about every LS4 owner. GM half assed the hell out of the LS4 and if they had of spent a lot more time on the engineering we definitely would have had a more solid platform. Now not saying it’s all bad, owning one can be very FUN. They are pretty fast for what they are. I own a 2007 Impala SS you can check it out on my channel I’ll be diving into the car more over different videos as well as other content. But the next thing is the LS4 transmission. You can feel the weakness of it, it does not hold up well. After a few hard pulls on the transmission you pretty much parked it outside the cemetery and it’s only a matter of time before you will need a rebuild. Why? Because GM used the same transmission that is used in the non v8 impala, Grand Prix, Buick, and more over the w body platform. It is a 4T65e-HD....not really. The transmission cannot handle the power of a V8 so between the clutch packs, and torque converter, forward apply bands, and heat. That is one thing that makes this an unreliable car. Now once you have went through and corrected GMs half assed mess you will have a RELIABLE car. This car is extremely sensitive to mods such as a plug in tuner or cold air intake. The LS4 will misfire to all hell because it will think it’s starving for fuel and air. The only way to properly tune this car is to buy HPTuners through a guy named James Brewer who will remote tune the car via laptop. Actually buy a COLD AIR INDUCTIONS intake and get a reliable built transmission for Nichols Preformance Transmission LLC which offered many different transmission options that can be rated to handle more than 500 horses and the same with torque. In a nutshell if you own a LS4 and are actually seeking information go on Facebook and join the car forum LS4Nation. We can help or if you have any questions whatsoever check me contact info on my channel I’ll be glad to help.
@SoullessxDream4 жыл бұрын
Not many know this but the LS4 was actually an LQ4 truck motor. They took the block and shortened it to fit transverse-axle, and then redrilled the holes to bolt up the 4t65e-hd trans. Here's another one for you. The 4t65e-hd was MAINLY used on Buick's 3800 supercharged motor. And they had a hell of a time staying together then. Why they decided to add 2 cylinders plus the torque of a truck through the SAME trans....? Beyond me, beyond LS4 owners and im sure beyond GM's engineers too! Sad because if you've ever driven an LS4 car, they are a blast to drive.

I own an 06 SS and I enjoy the car very much. The transmissions are shitty...I had mine rebuilt a couple of years ago and I haven't had any problems. I also did the Displacement on Demand (DOD) or AFM and that stopped the oil consumption...I still have the stock LS4 with stock internals so I do recommend other 9th gen owners to delete that. Resonater delete done now it's time for some Super 40 series Flowmaster mufflers and a K&N cold air intake.

Thats actually false. The transmission in these is the MN7 or 4T65E-HD. The differential is twice the size of the non-HD versions. Keep the transmission fluid fresh, add a big external transmission cooler and it will live a long life.
@brycepridemore98644 жыл бұрын
The displacement on demand will fail when the oil just ain’t right. That’s how I bought mine cheap it had a bad litter tick. When I get money I’ll get the kit to delete that system and have a pretty much bulletproof ls4. Now the trans that’s a whole diff story
