The 2019 Yamaha MT-09 in 2023. Is it any good?

Here, I look at the 2019 Yamaha MT-09, which is definitely worth considering if you are after a used machine. Some can't afford a new machine or indeed don't want to.Here's my thoughts after test riding it.

Still have my 2019 and love it. Newer ones too expensive. Will keep for a while. Still see a lot of 1st gens also.

I have a Shad seat on my 2018 MT-09. Sold on the Yamaha catalogue. Made a huge difference! Also added a Puig screen. Helps a little but still directs the wind to the upper torso. That engine is amazing! I also own a BMW GS and would seriously consider a Tracer GT + when it comes time to trade it.

I had a '18 that I loved! I bought a brand new 3rd gen '22 last year and it's for sale already. Don't get me wrong, the new 6 axis imu/electronics on the new bike are great. However, things like CHEAP, CHEESY toggle wheel, rear brake pedal, rear shock are somewhat disappointing. If you can get a decent deal on a second generation, by it! And no, they don't handle as bad as everybody tries to make them out.

Excellent review thanks for that 👍I’ve got a test ride on a mt07 on the 22nd at verwood Yamaha, I thought the mt09 was maybe a bit too much for me coming back into biking after a 5 year absence but I saw one on Saturday and thought mmmm🤔and now your review makes me think I should call verwood and see if I can change the 07 for an 09 test 👍thanks again………and a lovely part of the world you live reminds me of my childhood when I lived in Cornwall ( perranporth, portreath st Agnes) 👍

If you buy an RN43: Always go for the SP variant - day and night!

Ive got a 2019 sp. Im really torn about getting the 2024 sp. Its very expensive ( compared to what i paid for mine new) and ive got mine set up with everything i need - luggage rack, heated grips, exhaust, phone charger, engine protection. The new one is a significant upgrade though……. The 2019 is a fantastic bike regardless

Have always been intrigued by these bikes but never ridden one. How does this CP3 triple engine compare with say Triumph's 765 Street Triple R if you have ridden one of these?

I rode the 765 several years ago, before I bought my Ktm 890r, the cp3. Compared to the 765,i reckon the MT has a bit more go to it.

What DB killer is that? I have the same exhaust on my mt 09 from 2017 but there are 3 exhaust pipes. and I'd like to get a little more sound out of it.😅

Good review mate. The bike looks and sounds great. I have an MT-07 and want to upgrade. I'm thinking about upgrading to an MT-09 - 2018-2020 version because I can't stand the look of the headlight on the 2021+ versions. There's only one thing that's making me hesitate - the dash. Who decided on a weirdly shaped screen that isn't even in the center!? Did you find that annoying/off-putting when driving?

Every bike you buy you screw with it constantly and its the best bike ever made then you dump them like your KTM like a cheating GF. Wondering how long its going to be since you seem to like pissing away money on things you dump the 1250 for the 1300. Then you have something new to screw with and fiddle :)

Morning . Really enjoy your input . Yup KTM has gone as you pointed out . Now as far as the 1300 … not too sure about that but my dealer has got one coming in very soon so I will take it for a test ride and decide if I will part exchange mine and then I can start the process of adding things all over again , makes life a bit more interesting and gives me more channel content .
