The 2020 Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze

Happy Halloween everyone! I hope you enjoy our walk through of both the Hudson Valley as well as the Long Island Great Jack-o-lantern blazes! In both cases, there are over 7,000 carved jack-o-lanterns creating many wonderfully creepy pumpkin sculptures. Along the way we stayed at a couple of castles to make our trips even more magical. The blaze in Long Island is at the Old Bethpage Restoration Village and we stayed the Oheka Castle in Cold Spring Harbor. The Hudson Valley blaze is a short drive from Sleep Hollow and we stayed the Castle Hotel and Spa in Tarrytown. We. hope you will enjoy tagging along as we explore castles and calabazas (that's Spanish for pumpkins! LOL!)

we were lucky this year that they didn't cancel our Jack O'Lantern spectacular. insteadthey made it into a drive-thru. actually liked that format better because I wasn't tripping over baby carriages and feeling claustrophobic with all the people around me

Yes! I want to do a pumpkin patch and walk through next year, too. We wanted to do it this year, but with everything going on nope. :( And this is the first year in our house, so we finally have a yard to do this with. My Husband is so bummed. He wanted to be "that house" and give out full size candybars. *LOL*

Oh, but what song to use? Vampire Club could have been hilarious! I think at least. Cathouse Tragedy would have been a scandal. Riding A Black Unicorn could have been a nice gag if he started at "and tonight YOU're riding a black unicorn" Also a nice gag with The Night by singing to the groom "make that girl in (color of wedding dress [probably white]) your bride!" Devil, Devil, Evil, Evil, Song would have been plain rude. So would have been "Ex Lover's Lover" and "Raised by Bats". Last one just is a wee bit too agressive. It's Bigger On The Inside could have gone either way, depending on how much the wedding people can take a joke. Can't really think of any other from the top of my head that could be linked to a wedding in any way whatsoever...

I could be wrong on this but... I remember hearing the tale of the headless horseman and in the version I heard the horseman couldn't cross a covered bridge ...

I believe it's more the Horseman can't cross a flowing river ( werewolves and vampires have the same limitations) but can ride on TOP of the covered bridge. That's how he got around that in Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. And the Fox series Sleepy Hollow had the Horseman regularly drown himself in the river to hide from the sun. So it could be also artistic interpretation as well.

Awww, that sounds like the perfect trip! Mayumi is so lucky! (I think Oheka is where parts of an episode of Prodigal Son -- a mystery show where the protagonists' father is a serial killer (played by Michael Sheen, aka Lucian, of Underworld, and Aziraphale the Angel, of Good Omens) -- were filmed!)

I've been to the Hudson Valley Blaze 3 times (missed this and last year). It gets more amazing with each visit. The Horseman's bridge was new and the decor on the house looked amazing. So different from when I was last there. Next time I go, I'm going to do the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery tour.

It's good you showed Mayumi the ceiling at GCT, they used to do a light show thing on it every Christmastime to Nutcracker music (as someone who's gone down to NYC to see musicals, I've past through GCT many times). I've never heard of Oheka Castle, and those two pumpkin events looked even more awesome. You two went to the Hudson Valley huh? I'm surprised you didn't stop in Beacon or Poughkeepsie for a bit. There's also a castle called Bannerman Castle on a small island called Pollepel.

There's Hearst Castle in California. Went there once and man....it was like a chunk of Rome landed in a huge valley on the West Coast. Apparently there are gazelles and zebras on the property too that run wild,which is epic.

absolutely amazing! I hope to see this one day and not pay obscene amounts! That Freida Khalo was wonderful! what wasn’t?? that castle was very European just like I remember in my travels. BUT how was a wedding possible? we can’t gather here as we are on lockdown in Canada. However- what a venue. The sculpts were amazing really. Looking forward to next year! The work involved is crazy. Inspiring! we don’t have anything nearby this spectacular. Makes me want to create a big pumpkin cemetary next year! 👌🖤to carve each one or laser cut fake ones to keep forever? that is the question... Btw if that does not constitute the perfect getaway, I don’t know what does!
