I absolutely loved the first time I drove CTR on a perfect sunny Saturday. The second one was in winter in Canada - no snow on road but gravel/ rocks. I didn’t like it and found it underwhelming. It felt like a dialed up Fiesta ST. Not that you can’t drive it in rain/snow but it leaves out half of its performance. Honda has done magic with this car but anything less than perfect weather it’s asking for AWD.

You can get that 'burble' tune with Hondata, however a lot of tuners recommend against it since it'll eventually cause engine issues. Thus why I steered far away from it when I got my R tuned.
@gravityhammer254 жыл бұрын
@@MrGreatnessisme There is really no need for a tune if you want the occasional pop n crackle. I have a Milltek Non Resonated exhaust on my Type R and I get pops and crackles on stock tune.... Not as much as a burble tune but it's fun. The reason why is because Milltek is a true catback exhaust and replaces the front pipe. Some aftermarket exhausts are actually not replacing the front pipe so they are not true catbacks and don't actually open the exhaust up. Also other catbacks have resonators that kill the sound.

With the lack of competitors to the FK8, I get why so many compare it with the N, but they really aren't comparable cars IMO beyond both having a highly-engaging (manual) experience and both being completely appropriate in stock form for amateur track usage. I own a N and I've driven the FK8 CTR on numerous occasions, although not the 2020. The pre-2020 FK8 is a step above the N across the board in terms of performance (and price), and the 2020 is taking that a step further. The N was not designed with the intent to compete with the CTR and establishes itself as an intermediate between Si and CTR skewing slightly in the direction of the CTR. I do agree that the sounds of the N are a lot of fun and add to the experience, whereas with the CTR something like the Remus exhaust is necessary to enable that level of audible fun (although obviously exhaust is hugely subjective.)

I had an STi (head gasket blew up) and then a base WRX after that through 2008 to 2019, before moving on to the Type R. If you are in a reasonable position to do it, go get a Type R. You will love it, and I promise you won't miss having AWD unless you live somewhere where it snows all winter. The Type R is easier to live with (quieter, better cabin, etc.) and also more much rewarding to drive. Everything related to driver involvement (steering feel, braking, shifting, throttle response, instrumentation, the seats...) is a notch up from a WRX family car. One caveat on the Type R. I splurged and put 18 inch forged wheels on my car after burning through the first set of tires after 9000 miles. The stock wheels are heavy and there are precious few (and expensive!) tire options go with them. The 18 wheels mellowed out the ride, with noticeably better acceleration off the line, but also introduced a little bit of torque steer (definitely a worthwhile trade-off overall). That said, it seems that a brand new WRX is coming, so maybe you wait and see what Subaru (finally) brings to the table and then decide!

Yes must be appealing to scuby owners for stand out design and great driving as well as practicality . Something different from German designs but feel they have reached a peak here of engineering apart from going silly power and a few tweeks like cooling for track days. It’s a very, very satisfying car to drive. I had big dilemma CTR or Bullitt some 2 years back. CTR is a better car: steering, cornering incl. rotation, gear ratios, brakes and everyday practicality. But for some unknown reason Bullitt delivers more trill and smile. Maybe V8 and RWD? What was your feeling @matt Moran motoring? Why better sports car is not always better drivers car? I was thinking of eventually using my R as a winter beater and the Bullitt or a GT as a summer car. If I didn't have to haul a lot of stuff for work and if it didn't snow I would daily drive the GT/Bullitt. At that price point, nothing is more fun than the GT/Bullitt. I have a 2019 Type R as well and never once had a single grind or anything of the sort.
@JamieToddBand4 жыл бұрын
No grinding in my new '19 so far. My son is learning to drive the manual, and it does grind if you forget to push the CLUTCH PEDAL in before you shift!

@@JamieToddBand Almost all my cars have been manuals. The last two, 2019 WRX, and 2017 MX-5 - never had transmission grinds. Go watch Savage Geese's review of the CTR and the video he made specifically about Honda transmissions. Also, many other automotive journalists have experienced the issue including Throttle House, Redline Reviews, etc.

Just bought a 2020 in sonic grey today. This car is literally a kitten and a Blood thirsty tiger at the same time. It’s scary.

Good review! Although the FK8-R is aimed at the Golf R, not the Veloster N which - along with the i30N - is aimed at the Golf GTI.

If the Honda Civic Type R is a Golf R killer, then the Hyundai Veloster N is the Golf gti killer. It holds up so well with the Subaru WRX STi 🙂

Hi, what are your thoughts on bigger/upsized tyres on stock rims?

A black one with a wing delete would bring the divisive styling down to an acceptable level I think.
@galacticmaui24 жыл бұрын
From what I found on google the veloster N is within 100lbs of the type R in weight.

Love the car, hate the wing. If the U.S. would’ve gotten the CTR Sport Line like Europe I’d own one

Funny, I love the wing lol.

I don’t know but for some reason the previous generation looks better without those hockey sticks on the updated fake vents.

Source? I’ve had an Accord Sport since 2018 and I white knuckle grip it all the time and it still looks like new.

I have no idea how to keep alcantara looking good. It's gorgeous when new, but oils from the hands may mess it up. I don't have a 2020, but I tried cleaning a small spot of the alcantara on my arm rest and it was a near disaster. I have the Mugen Steering Wheel. Anyone with a 2020 looking to get a leather wheel I would recommend to check out the Mugen. OEM leather wheel is meh.... not bad but not great either.

With it's crazy styling and the fact that knee problems make manual transmissions hard for me (at least with daily drivers), I have no interest in owning a type r. But the performance is so good that when I see somebody else driving one, I get jealous.

Does the Type R come with 2 different types of shift handles? I answered my own question. The dealer sells a red leather wrapped shift knob might be great for the hotter months. I bet their are a ton of aftermarket ones as well.
@JamieToddBand4 жыл бұрын
The knob gets impossibly hot. I just ordered foam microphone covers (assorted colors including red), to slip over on hot days.
