We all want confidence in our riding. It’s this elusive thing that we all are looking for. Some bikes are better suited to give this feeling to certain riders. I’d rather ride a bike that gives me confidence than a bike that has the perfect amount of power. Give me the bike that weight a little more, but gives me confidence. When you ride a bike that figures out what you want it to do and seems to just do it, that is a magical thing. That is this 2020 YZ250FX. I love it. Most of the time anyway :)

Here it is: The X has loads of vibration and Yamaha has put in little to no R&D for the X causing it to be less balanced, less predictable, and little worse handling than the FX. The X does have loads of power but will spin and break traction more easily. Makes rider more tired. The X is more “fun” than the FX but when race day comes most will choose the FX. The FX is better balance, better traction, more predictable, better handling, less vibration, less fatigue, has electric start. You get the idea…. Basically the X is an old school riper that is fun to ride but the FX is a better purpose built GNCC style racer… this is what I’ve been told numerous times by guys who have owned both bikes… both are great and I don’t think you could go wrong either way. But there are significant differences between the two…. Oh and another difference is that the X will be better for slow hard enduro stuff … the FX is not great in slow technical stuff… The FX is purpose built to be pushed hard and go fast.

@@thepatternforms859 I gotta say; your spot on with your assessment. Well put. I agree. Myself I ride too many hours a year to own a 4 stroke. But there is no doubt the 4 stroke FX would out handle a 250x in the open high speed stuff. Edited to add; the 2 stroke sounds heaps better than the Fx and also the FX is so f’ing annoyingly noisy that it puts our riding areas at risk for closure. Two strokes don’t do that.

Great review! I couldn't agree with you more about how fun the FX 250 is! I bought myself the 2015 model and my daughters 16 CRF 125F and a CRF 150R. 4 years later my youngest daughter (13 yrs old) has been needing a full size bike. So I bought myself an 18 TX300!🤪, and gave my 15 FX 250 to her. We went riding single track in the PNW yesterday and my daughter really wanted to ride the new 300. Being an awesome kid and a great rider I agreed to trade for a while. I had so much fun on the FX and actually see myself wanting to trade her more than she knows!

I bought a 2009 KTM 250 EXC 2T, i was really having a hard time deciding between 4T and 2T, but after watching your older videos about the differences of those bikes (thats also how i found your channel), i was convinced that the 2T was a way to go for me. Owned the for a couple of months now, havent regretted the decision once. Thanks for the tips! I even made a few videos on youtube riding it with my friends, trying to get my own channel going on with that KTM.

I know this is grossly unrelated to the particular video, but Kyle I would LOVE to see you get a vintage air-cooled bike, especially an open-class MXer, and make that an off-road mountain trail bike. There are lots of options to modernize the suspension to get it handling the way you'd like, and I think you would REALLY be impressed by the butter smooth monster torque of an old YZ400, Maico 440, Husky 430, etc. Also you'd be certain to get a ton of views.

Sure it can, just not with near the refinement and finesse. Road both of them back to back at a test ride event. Felt instantly at home on the 250x because it is what I spent alot of years on , a 250mx bike set up for the woods from the early to mid 2000's. Jump on the ktm platform and it is just better all around from e start to the tpi, to the counterbalanced engine.....that said for the average rider going all out for 1.5 xc event, the results wouldn't be drastically different, unless you got stuck or fell and had to repeatedly kick the yz back to life. That is time and energy you will never get back in a race.

I think the perfect trail machine YAMAHA could easily offer would be, the yz250fx but as a 350cc with a heavier flywheel, proper skidplate, and larger fuel tank 3 gallons. And a 6 speed trans. And should come with both a front number plate and a super bright led off rd worthy head light. This way you can choose. And to finish the perfect bike, radiator fan and braces right from factory. As for handling, cut the fork stops a touch to turn a tighter circle. There you have the best 4 stroke trail ripper I can come up with in my 40 years of dirtbike experience.

I've ridden a 2020 250fx...I found the power sluggish and slow revving...I was always looking for more "get up and go" from it...I'm sure that with the power tuner app, some of those engine characteristics could be changed and possibly fixed (I didn't have time to tinker on it...I just rode the stock map). Otherwise the bike was great! Handled great...amazing suspension. (I also rode a 2018-I think?-yz250f, and it was snappy and fast revving, which I loved...but it lacked top end power so I was always looking for one more gear.) This past fall when I was in the market for a new bike, I went back and forth between buying the new 250fx and the new 450fx...I didn't get a chance to the ride the 250fx before making a purchase...and pulled the trigger on the 450fx...and after riding the 250fx, I made the right decision. It revs fast...it has all the top end I could ever ask for...the same great suspension as the 250FX...handles great...and is the best bike for me. If I was doing soft/hard enduro, I'd ride a 300...if I rode Moto, I'd ride a 250f...but for the mountain and desert single track, and hare and hounds and hare scrambles I do...the 450FX is the best bike.

Im old, slow, and short. The 790 Adv. is borderline too tall. So when i win one of the bikes it would need to be a 2 stroke. It would be a tossup but i think i would go with the 300RR. Now if it was the 250X instead of the FX then it would be the Yamaha. By the way, what is the overhaul reccomendation on the FX? Anyone know?
