I'VE HAD IT FOR 3 WEEKS.......... and it is AMAZING. I can't believe I would ever say this about a Hyundai, going by my impression of them 20 years ago. They were cheaply made and fugly, BUT, not anymore. I could care less about the issues YOU have with "plastic" interior pieces. I mean, C'mon, really? At this price point for a great design and MPG's off the chart. I'll take that all day every day man. The CVT feels as good as any other standard transmission to me. I could care less what it's called. Hyundai has really stepped up their game and are producing some quality, economical good looking cars. I have the Limited package as well, and let me tell you, it's worth the few extra $$$$. These upgraded packages, makes driving this car A LOT of Fun. This definitely is not your typical boring sedan. Sport mode is a blast and you can definitely feel the difference, when needed. All The Lane Assist features and driving modes with the digital dash display, are very cool and very fun to use. This is probably the safest car I've ever owned and probably one of the safest in the world. :) It just does everything you'd want it to do, safely, when those features are turned on. It's very comfy too and there is more than enough leg room for your back seat passengers. I'm 6' 2" and my friend is 6" and he said it was more than adequate in the back when i sat in my preferred driving position. This car just has everything you would ever want. I am thoroughly impressed with the interior and the features and the GAS MILEAGE I'm getting is unreal. It's not even the hybrid version and I average 44.6 MPG's daily. That's unbelievable to me, for being just a gas engine. NO it isn't super fast but in sport mode it will allow you to pass other cars significantly with no problem. I love this car and highly recommend it, if you're on the edge about it. I also get plenty of stares, whether good, bad or indifferent, i don't know, but people look at it a lot, LOL Who cares, I love driving it.

Just bought a 2022 SEL trim. even without all the upgrades the features and tech far surpass the competition. had concerns about CVT as well (had a Nissan Altima in the early CVT days and started having issues at 10,000 miles), but those concerns are far less with Hyundai's 100,000/10 year powertrain warranty. if the company has enough confidence in the transmission to put that warranty on it, then I'll take it and let them put a new one in for me IF it craps out by then
@LifeAfterLosing4 жыл бұрын
The difference between Hyundai groups CVT’s is that they are chain driven and not belt driven like the trash Jatco CVT’s that Nissan used. That should eliminate the reliability concerns and we also have to remember that there will be an N version of this car coming with a dual clutch transmission and 250+ horsepower. This car is just fine for what it will be used for. You also have to remember that 99.9% of people are not auto journalists and will trash the interior of these cars with dogs, kids and so on. Soft touch materials on the top of the doors will wear terribly when a dogs nails are digging into it. The interior is designed for how the car will be used. If you want Genesis level quality, work harder to afford something better than an Elantra. It may have a $25,000 sticker price, but it will sell for close to 20 or less after discounts.

Also, it's important to keep in perspective that this is an economy car first and foremost. Only at 57,000 miles on my ‘17 Altima, so only just about to hit its first service interval. first CVT car I ever drove, but to me it was a strong argument. Its quick to respond when ever I press my foot down (which is often) the only real silly thing I’ve noted with it is its engine braking logic, under hard braking it downshifts, but if you don’t get back on the gas sometimes it stutters about confused. A rare occurrence but it does happen. The ,17 was the transmission redesigned so its in the air how it does long term over majority owners, but performance wise it operates quite competently

I've had a 2017 Honda Accord Sport with the CVT (my mom didn't want to drive the manual). Over 30k miles I've put that CVT through the ringer and it worked fine for me. One of the things I liked was that it didn't rubberband when I floored it, it just stayed at redline, unlike my friend's 2016 Nissan Maxima. That experience is the closest thing to making the car feel like an EV, there's never any shifting or harsh juddering. The main problem I found was with low-end torque since it always felt sluggish until 2500rpm. On the highway it felt responsive since it's always holding it's rpm I don't have to try hard to pass someone. The Accord had a manual mode with paddle shifters which helped with the low-end torque problem but then it auto upshifts. The Accord was a fun car but it didn't have the tech I cared about so we sold it. I'd be interested in trying something with 400+ horsepower with that CVT. I really do think CVTs can make a car fast if it's tuned right.

It is strange how no reviewer on youtube has noticed and mentioned that hyundai has removed the front passenger seat height adjuster in all these new elantras (2021 onwards). Even the top of the line elantra N doesn't have it. The previous model had it even in some cheaper trims. The seat is set too low now and I think in terms of comfort its one of the worst front passenger seats of all the cars that I have ever owned. We realized it after buying the car and are already thinking of getting rid of it after just 1 year. Its strange that they decided to equip the car with electronic parking brake and sunroof but skimped on this very basic and important feature. It seems like they are putting more efforts on marketing gimmicks instead of actual usability of the car.

All these compact/midsize cars these days have CVT transmissions except the Mazda3. The Corolla has a slightly different implementation of the CVT. If one is going to buy a CVT based compact car, then the upcoming Honda Civic makes a good case for itself but the current Nissan Sentra by far is a better car than this Gen Elantra.

I drive a Forester XT with a CVT and well it’s definitely my least favourite part of the car it’s nowhere near as bad as KZbin commenters make it out to be. I’m only 50k into mine but I am extremely hard on it, I use it on highway off ramps to decelerate all the time. And it’s hanging in there this far.

@TheDad7774 жыл бұрын
@@bendino9016 yeah any tranny replacement is costly. During my ownership Subaru has changed the warranty on the cvt transmissions from 3yrs/160kms to 10yrs/160kms. Which is plenty for me. I’m dying for a new car every 4yrs anyway.

Hyundai makes very little profit on their sedans, and even less profit the smaller the model. Literally hundreds of dollars per vehicle sold, and in the lower hundreds at that. I mean the Tucson which shares the same platform as the Elantra can cost almost $40k compared to higher $20k for an Elantra Limited (basically loaded, as there are no packages). There's way more margin to improve the Tucson overall. Adding $200 more per vehicle multiplied by hundreds of thousands or even millions of vehicles would mean hundreds of millions in less profits. The torsion beam suspension alone saves Hyundai around $300 per car. An independent rear suspension is standard on the most expensive trims (the Hybrid and the N). Hyundai is already one of the least profitable manufacturers out there. As "cheap" as their materials may seem, they're nowhere near as cheap as they were even 10-15 years ago (2-3 generations of Elantra ago). These things the reviewer "complains" about are only so apparent when juxtaposed against their class leading features which are rare in the segment. Their much more profitable SUVs (compact, mid-sized and three row) are among the best in their class without these bean counting sacrifices. The American companies have completely abandoned sedans, and most of the German companies are limited to luxury sedans or in the case of VW (Jetta) has just as cheap "plasticky" interiors but is more expensive with less features. Only the Japanese still offer relatively cheap sedans besides Hyundai/Kia, and even Honda (the most value conscious Japanese brand along with maybe Nissan) no longer offers a low $20k Civic...

Top of dash matters less then top of doors If it looks cheap and is hard a a rock on the door tops then an issue-have to check it out in person-can’t tell in the video. Mazda does a better job on the interiors. CVT -I’d take a test drive to see how it shifts in the real world. But long term reliability cannot be assured by a test drive.

I know, I know is doesn't really have any sporty aspirations. But the cvt trans takes away all of driver engagement and there for enjoyment. Yes it can fun driving a low priced/low powered car with a manual trans. IE Kia's Reo with manual box.

They spent too much money on the appearances. They should use better materials on dashboard, door trims, etc. And rear independent suspension on gas models, too. (Although price may be increased.)

Hyundai and KIA are cheating out on simple things like hood prop rods, instead of struts. KIA stripped out thigh extenders in the front seats and no heated rear seats on top trims. They offered these back in 2015.
