@@eljefeamericano4308 I can promise you EVs are going nowhere but, it's not all bad news. Some of the quickest vehicles in the world are EVs. The McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and La Ferrari are all extraordinarily impressive hybrid supercars each with roughly 900 to 1000 BHP. The Lucid Air Sapphire having 1200 BHP from it's top model and will do 0 to 60 in 2 seconds, Tesla Model S, 1020 BHP, 0 to 60 in 1.99 seconds. Moving from electric for a second, the Newer Ford GT is powered by a twin turbo V6 that makes 660 BHP but is so light and they raced it at Le Mon and it blitzed it using an engine that shares over half of it's components with that of a Ford F-150's. Continuing with Ford, the F-150 lightning is brilliant and because Ford insisted the EPA test it with a 1000lb slab of concrete in the bed when measuring range so in the real world it actually gets close to 400 miles on a charge and can power a standard home for up to 3 days straight. The people I know that dislike EVs have never driven a fun one and they're usually old Boomers who don't like change and think Climate change is a hoax despite 99.9 % of climate scientists worldwide agree that human activity is responsible for the current ultra accelerated time frame as yes the climate has changed multiple times in the 3.6 billion years the earth has existed, only now.. instead of occuring over tens to hundreds and even a thousand Millenia, it's happening rapidly over a period of decades and even yesrs which can cause cataclysmic collapse as there are several of what are called tipping points like the large Antarctic Glacier that if it were to fall into the ocean, would cause sea levels to rise 10 feet in a matter of minutes and continue to rise as that super Glacier Melts. Coastline property would be worst effected in the southern hemisphere but eventually make it's way up north.... And despite what that Mickey Mouse sounding douche bag Ben Shapiro says, you can't just sell your house and move because one, you likely couldn't in the first place due to rising intre rates and the insane housing market and two.. your house would be likely permanently submerged underwater. Not even mentioning a similar cataclysm glacier in Greenland that would screw the Eastern Seaboard... Oh and then there's Jair Bolsonaro who has nearly completely turned the world largest carbon sync basically into a net positive carbon producer... Like have people not noticed that the words, “a once in a decade” or “once in a century storm” have become normal on weather broadcasts with the same happening with droughts. They are lasting longer and longer, making it increasingly difficult to grow crops, then it will be another once in a whater storm that lasts days to weeks the ruin most crops that survive such heavy drought... Like I get Boomers, other old people snd just straight up dumb people don't care because to them if it's not affecting them right now.. they don't care, yet its that group that has the audacity to say your generation just wants instant gratification, if I'm in a drive through window maybe but, when it comes to the Earth we think long term because we are the ones that are going to have to live in your old ass's Cyberpunk Hell scape.. Petroleum Is a terrible fuel, it's dirty, it requires a complex and dangerous infrastructure network to keep the supply coming *cough* Exxon Valdez * cough* Blue water horizon... Where electricity can be generated much more efficiently in a power plant to create energy to charge an EV which is why most EVs get the equivalent of 70+mpge equivalent. And battery power is not the only way to power them. Hydrogen and Hydrogen fuel cells are incredibly powerful, hell you can even mod a combustion engine to run on hydrogen gas and the only waste product is water. I'm in my 20s so I would quite like to not have a world ending event occur in my lifetime.. or at all and people really need to re-educate themselves on fission nuclear energy and how safe, green and effective it is. The Chernobyl disaster was caused by the RBMK reactor being 1. Of cheap Soviet design that used uranium-235 that had only been enriched to 40% combined with the mock test that was being done at the time being handled by people not fully familiar with the equipment, Fukushima which used a Westinghouse reactor had a steam and hydrogen explosion as the fuel rods melted because when the tsunami hit, The geniuses that built the place decided it was a good idea to put the backup generators in the basement and 3 Mile Island wasn't really a big disaster considering that the other reactor there kept producing energy up until last year. France is currently reactivating most of its nuclear power plants and Gernam is delaying closing theirs to deal with no longer purchasing Russian fuel, German. People have this huge misconception that nuclear energy is inherently dangerous and it's not, You have to purposely mess it up for it to become dangerous. Modern western reactors or pressurized water reactors are designed to fail safe meaning that if there is a problem it does not require the intervention of a single person to scram the reactor and lower the control rods to stop the reaction. Oh but what about nuclear waste I hear you asking. Chances are if you live even remotely near a nuclear power plant you're also living near nuclear waste as spent fuel rods are placed in cooling pools right inside the nuclear facility until they're cool enough to be placed in casks where they are combined with concrete silica and other materials to prevent them from reacting, heating up and going critical. They're also placed in these boxes that are so indestructible that there is actually video demonstrations of them being hit by fully laden trains and being completely fine and one has never ruptured and created a nuclear waste incident. Again nuclear waste is not green glowing liquid. It's the silvery metal uranium 235 and 238 (depleted uranium) as well as uranium's daughter isotopes like thorium. Thorium by the way was being sold online in multiple stores on Amazon as bracelets infused with it to increase "negative ions" I $hit u not" And although the popular joke is fusion is always 50 years away, that annoying joke may soon be coming to an end as ITER or international Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor is being built in south France and Will be the largest TokaMac fusion reactor on the planet. China, the EU, India, Russia, and the United States. And because, unlike fission reactors where it's isotopes are dangerously and can be used to create nuclear bombs if properly enriched or at least dirty bombs and can melt down Catastrophic conditions, if there is a failure in a fusion reactor it's simply Is the reaction stops, It also produces basically no long lasting radiation waste, at least in comparison how much possible energy it could output compared to fission reactors. Just imagine this for a second, The United States moves all of its energy efforts to solar, wind, biodiesel, solar mirror concentrators, battery and other storage technology, safe nuclear fission, geothermal energy, hydroelectric dams, introducing strong subsidies so that people are incentivized to put solar panels on their house so that although the electrical grid desperately needs to be upgraded as doing so would likely increase efficiency by 30% as well as creating microgrids with neighborhoods with solar panels and battery storage devices. Tidal and wave power And people more qualify than me that have done the calculations that have said if we did so, meeting our energy needs would be easily met by the small amount of fossil fuel we would have to extract from the ground on US soil and/or natural gas, making us completely energy independent and perhaps including Canada in on this as it would be a mutually beneficial agreement. That means no more wars over oil, No more cowtailing to countries like Saudi Arabia that murder United States journalist And then use a bone saw to chop them into pieces. What I am proposing is not out of the realm of possibility or even something that could only happen far in the future. I'm talking 10 to 20 years max if we wake up and realize we are on borrowed time and if there was a miracle and a majority of the United States citizens agreed on something it would take much less time. And if God willing We crack fusion, That would literally mean the biggest change for good in humanity since penicillin, antibiotics, basically all medicines, the internet, cars and the interstates and roads on which we drive them, passenger planes, trains... Basically any advancements humanity had made thus far would be completely dwarfed by what would now be a clean and practically limitless power supply that could power rockets that could travel at a small percentage of c (the speed of light Energy = Mass x the speed of light²) or E=MC². That would quickly make us a multi planetary species no longer needing to fight for resources or worry about climate change as fusion is clean energy and food production would become easy as we could do it basically anywhere given the energy. So if you're one of those people sitting there reading this comment and you've gotten this far... And you think rolling coal is funny despite the fact that it's basically the equivalent of a magic trick a 5-year-old just learned and won't stop doing while simultaneously pointing out to everyone else on the road that you are definitely not secure in your masculinity) American trucks are now bigger than the tanks we used to win WW2. I get if you need to haul things, The time to act is now…. Hell, yesterday

Thank you for the consistency over the years Doug. You got us through the pandemic, we really owe you one for that. This car is great because it's getting more in line with what pricing should be and it's actually a normal car. The problem w/ electric cars is we're still in the early phases of the tech so everyone is trying to pack in every feature possible and then charge a fortune for it. They won't become totally mainstream and replace regular cars until we get back to what a regular car should be and they're actually affordable. The model Y was supposed to be cheap like the model 3 but neither actually is.

Excellent review as always Doug. Just a note as more cars go EV - since there isn't nearly as much to talk about in the powertrain (displacement, cylinder count, turbo or not, etc. etc.) discussion on the battery architecture is really important. Is this a 400v system or 800v? What's it's maximum power acceptance (50, 150, or 250 kWh? or more?) during charging? What's the motor split, not just combined power? Does it disconnect the front or rear motor to lessen parasitic draw? Many EV reviews now just copy what the company says ("5%-80% in 38 minutes!!!") but without any background on if that's possible or what the caveats would be.

I can’t figure out if this offers ventilated front seats or not, & I hope it does bc I really like it! It’s way more distinctive than the Q3, Q5, & Q7. The Q8 has a very distinctive shape, but it’s very expensive once I configure a Premium Plus or Prestige trim with the options & features my family & I would want. The Q5 & Q7 are already pretty common

That range is really gonna hurt them, especially in areas where it gets colder. Having a 3 in the Chicago area in the winter with the cold it really does impact the range significantly. In the cold months take that range and subtract probably 30-40%. It’s not good enough, especially for a brand like Audi. That range is like early Model S and X ranges from a decade ago. It’s time for them to get serious about that number.

I have an ID.4 with the same dual-motor, extended battery setup (I also have a top-spec Mach-E). Like all batteries, it loses range in the winter, but unlike my friends’ Teslas, both cars get their actual quoted figures. In fact, the Mach-E gets it’s full 270 miles averaging 65 mph on interstate roadtrips (80 mph cruise, plus slow-downs, etc). Because the starting points use different math, the effect you may be experiencing as a Telsa owneer isn’t quite the same as those using the more conservative EPA math.
