The dealership I bought my Hyundai from was offering $5000 off MSRP for 2023 Genesis GV70s and GV80s in stock. The 2024 models were coming in a couple of weeks at the time. I have a white 3.5t with ultramarine blue interior and have had it since the end of july 2021. I would have waited for the 2.5t versions to come in, but I don’t believe the 2.5t models have the blue interior options, which was the strongest selling point for me. (I also couldn’t wait anymore, I was sharing a car since Nov 2020…) My biggest issue/gripe is the rear doors don’t have their own set of open/lock sensors, when other “luxury” cars of this class have them on all 4. Current Mercedes models have it standard on all the doors, even starting on entry level Gla/glb models. Something they can def add in on future model years. Only other random issue that’s really a parlor trick is, holding the car key lock button cannot close the windows, but they can open them.. again, it should have both options… a gla/glb has it … and it’s a size class level below… I love the car, I still get people looking all the time, they’re just not mass sellers yet like an x3/q5/glc, but honestly a much nicer quality interior compared to those three.

With platform sharing, sedans can often become an SUV without extensive development costs. I'm seeing this everywhere. And by SUV in this case, I mean a soft-roader. Hyundai and KIA are just on a roll. They are easily the most dynamic and productive auto manufacturers in the market right now. Some of the features on this rig are so downright clever and innovative (like the lane-changing blind-spot camera on the dashboard) they should be standard on all cars. This would be my first choice in this segment by far. Love the interior and exterior design equally. Well-done. Great review once again, excellent video and audio! The location is gorgeous.

Excellent review as always, Tom. It's clear why the GV70 took home honors at Mudfest this year. And Genesis pulled a smart move (imo) in offering the 2.5L turbo 4 as the base engine in the vehicle. A powerplant that at my last count is standard or optional in at least 9 (!) KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis models. That makes the GV-70 base model, even with options at $50K or less. But that brings me to my biggest complaint as far as Genesis is concerned. While the new corporate 4 banger has earned strong reviews in a host of other vehicles, Genesis has failed to offer it in the sedan version G70. Sticking instead to the earlier 2.0L engine with nearly 50 less HP and only mediocre torque. As someone who loves sedans and is considering a VW Arteon or KIA Stinger GT-Line (before its demise next year) I find it both sad and puzzling that Genesis wouldn't offer a more capable base engine in the G70 as they have in the GV70 and G80. Considering that the 2.5L turbo in other KIA and Hyundai models turns in a 0-60 time of about 5.2 seconds, only about a half second slower than the twin turbo 3.3L V6 in the Stinger, I'd expect it would deliver similar performance in the G70. Obviously, Genesis is putting far more effort in the GV70 than in the G70 sedan. One further point. It's noteworthy that Genesis is offering concierge service along with "free" standard maintenance on their vehicles for 3 yrs/36K miles. Obviously, they're hoping to spare their customers the embarrassment of appearing at a Hyundai dealer in person. Originally, Hyundai hoped to emulate Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti in fully separating their luxury brand dealerships from their mainstream brands. That plan collapsed when they were sued by a number of Hyundai dealers who had been selling the early Genesis models as a Hyundai sub-brand. The dealers won and Hyundai agreed to continue providing Genesis models to Hyundai dealers as long as they provided a separate entrance and showroom.

Question about the buying service: It looks like the Honda Civic isn't an option for getting a price quote, at least in my area. Am I correct in guessing that's because it's too new and/or inventory is too low to allow for any negotiation?
@DrivenCarReviews3 жыл бұрын
Yup, that's a good guess. Also, there are some brands that come and go. These ebb and flow and I can't always keep track. Hope you find it useful.

@@DrivenCarReviews Understandable. Given that I can only find half a dozen blue Civic EX sedans for sale across the country, I think I'll probably eek one more year out of my car before I replace it.

Although the Genesis has a bigger 4 cylinder engine than the competition , it has the same if not better fuel economy than its competitors.

Great CUV. My only complaint is that you can't get some of the desirable features with any of the 2.5T trims, like a HUD or ventilated seats. You have to spring for the fully spec'd 3.5T to get those things. I wish you could get all the luxury without having to get the bigger engine.
@DrivenCarReviews3 жыл бұрын
Good point.
@NileshR123 жыл бұрын
I think you can get the 2.5T with the Advanced or Prestige package & that includes ventilated front seats, but those don't include the HUD
@randyfine45353 жыл бұрын
@@NileshR12 In Canada, I bought the 2.5T Prestige and it comes with EVERYTHING except 3D gauge and adaptive suspension. But I definitely have the ventilated seats and the HUD.
@mattspeer013 жыл бұрын
@@randyfine4535 Yeah, no such luck in the US. HUD only comes with 3.5T Sport Prestige which is the most fully loaded trim level you can buy. Weird how things vary so much by country.
@mattspeer013 жыл бұрын
@@NileshR12 I have used both the GV70 website configurator and looked at window stickers for fully optioned 2.5T Sport Prestige trims, and ventilated seats aren't anywhere to be seen on any of them, unfortunately. This is in the US. Sounds like other countries may have the option on 2.5T's.

Five years ago when you were reviewing for the New York Times and called the Mercedes GLC300 the "perfect car" that convinced me to buy one! Then 2.5 years ago I decided to buy the then-new Genesis G70 because I had decided I didn't need a car as big as the GLC300 (which was indeed a great car). I love my G70 but I feel Genesis, in getting these SUVs out, is now a bit behind the curve on the electric or hybrid powertrains. Based on YT videos from Asia, Genesis now has a full-electric car available in Korea (the GV60), which perhaps will be available in the US next year. As much as I like the GV70, I find myself more interested in the GV60 now.
@DrivenCarReviews3 жыл бұрын
I'm looking forward to driving the 60 as well (and seeing it in person since the design seems polarizing in photos). have to remember not everyone has a place to charge. Gas engines will be around for a long time.
@jazzfan74913 жыл бұрын
@@DrivenCarReviews Yes I am in the category where I don't have any place to charge an electric at the moment, but I hope to remedy that (i.e., finally buy a house) within the next few months. 🤓 Electric car penetration, in California at least, seems to already be beyond the point where government subsidized charging stations would be very popular.

Think the back seat is a lot bigger than that of the Porsche Maccan. I'd say it's almost the same size as that of the GLC.

No one, not even sales person at a dealership know that the Genesis has a nice feature. If you press and hold the button at the door handel you can close the opened sunroof and all opened windows of the car. Great if kids leave windows open or partially open.

How does your pricing service work? I'm interested in swapping my 2019 G70 for one of these. Can I use your pricing service to check on a trade-in?

You’d use the service to get a quote on the new car. The dealer would then give you trade-in info.

Genesis will never take off as a brand as long as there are no Genesis dealers. Spokane WA doesn't have one. Boise ID doesn't have one, in fact IDAHO doesn't have one. Neither does Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas... I think you see where I'm going here. I talked with my local Hyundai dealer. They said Genesis is requiring dealers to build new stand alone dealerships. Stupid. I don't understand the decision that says "we won't sell you a car unless we can sell that car in a fancy building".
