I too, own one of these. It is my first Lexus, and while AMD is spot on in his assessment, it is a very good automobile. I came from an Audi, 2.0 turbo, a nice little hot rod. The ES feels like a very honest car. It doesn’t pretend to be an Autobahn flyer, nor a hairy-chested rock-crawler. It is comfortable, quiet, agile, and very economical. Fit and finish are top notch. When the Audi began ingesting its own coolant, and the dealer said, “That’s normal,” I didn’t stick around for the inevitable rebuild. Sure, it could use the v6, or hey, go all the way with 500. It’s probably a niche market, but if you don’t need 13 sec. quarter-mile slips, it will serve you well.

The one thing I hate about the Lexus sedans like the ES 300h is that my front lower bumper is ALWAYS hitting the concrete when there is a slight bend in the angle of the vehicle such as when coming off a 10°+ degree hill or bump in the road. Often times there is an uneven transition from a parking lot to the street. I have to be very careful about driving as to not scrape the bottom of my front fender on the road as if I'm riding in a low-rider. I've never had this issue in other cars I've had! It's the one reason why I won't be buying another Lexus/Toyota that has a similar problem!

Not sure about underpowered statement. Most cars on the road are still 9.5-10.5s to 0-60. This one is 8.2. Even in texas which has highest speed limits 75-85mph, it has enough of oomphf to overtake from 85 to 90-100. From 85 to 100 it goes in 5 ish seconds. It could obviously benefit from hybrid, in terms of power and mpg, it would be such a nice car for awd if they added hybrid, or as we all wished, on the v6. For now i guess those who need awd, should pick es250 in ultra luxury, as i believe it has extra damping/isolation, so v4 engine loudness issue is solved.

It has NOTHING to do with power. The whole point of buying a Lexus is for its REFINEMENT (Quietness, comfort, smoothness and luxury that coddles) [rollseyes]. The idiots that pay an arm and a leg for vehicles like this ES 250 and the UX (with their highly UNREFINED, NOISY and ROUGH 4-bangers), are most likely buying it for the “L” badge so that they can show how “well” they’re doing! Actually, to someone with more than 2 brain cells, it is more of an indication of how deep in debt they are, in order to flaunt themselves! The whole point of a *SIX CYLINDER* engine, for anyone who knows 2 spits about cars, is that it’s more than just “power”. It’s all about the SMOOTHNESS, THE REFINED NOTE OF THE ENGINE and THE LINEAR POWER DELIVERY that only a “six” can deliver, and a 4 banger could NEVER EVER hope to achieve (especially Toyota fours, which as some of the noisiest, roughest and most unrefined of them all!!)

🤔QUESTION🤔: With your expertise, Is there a way to heat up a hybrid car battery in winter? I heard it gets something like 30% to 34% less fuel efficient in winter. So if I was expecting to get 50 mpg in a hybrid camry, in winter I might only get 30ish mpg. Is an engine block heater a good idea? Or put a space heater in the car on a timer? What do you suggest?😁
@pilotgrrl12 жыл бұрын
As a 18-year Prius driver, I have to say that I have never experienced that big a mileage drop in winter! A couple of MPG, sure, but nowhere near 30-34%.
@JesusisLOVEJohn-2 жыл бұрын
@@pilotgrrl1 Thanks for your input. A few questions: 1. What year is your latest prius? 2. You said your prius gets a couple less mpg in winter? Do you mean like 2 - 3 mpg or more like 5 - 7 mpg less (give or take a few mpg)? 3. Also where do you live? (Example: northern USA, or in the middle, down south?)😁

Depends on how cold it gets. All cars hybrids included will get less gas mileage in the winter and it has to do with the gasoline engine not the hybrid battery

How is the AWD different on 2021 Lexus ES 250, when compared to this in the video?
@obsidianshamrockstudios20272 жыл бұрын
bought a 2021 250 AWD and I am disgusted with it. It is noisey as hell on the highway, mine is currently at the dealer for the back seat being loose and making a shit ton of noise on uneven roads, and they are trying to tell me its the way the car is supposed to be. Coming from 2 Jaguars I am not impressed at all with this brand. Shoulda listened to everyone telling me its a glorified Toyota.

It's a Camry with Lexus badge😎 The old school ES250 has better build than this new gen. My ex had 1991 ES250 and it was quiet and made in Japan lol.

@@obsidianshamrockstudios2027 XF is nice for the first 3 years then problems. My bro in law had one and he got rid of it after several major repairs. I personally own the GS, HS, and LS. Never like the ES and I drove many ES as a loaner before.

You can blame CAFE for this….
@naveenthemachine2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s cafe. It’s just Lexus is cost cutting and charging more They could have simply used the Highlander v6 AWD combo for the ES AWD.

In Asian markets Lexus actually has a ES 200. Yes, you got it right, it is a 2 liter non hybrid powerplant plus CVT in a 196 inch/5 meter long luxury sedan and is still in production. It can be up to $10,000 cheaper than the 300h, and also has acceptable fuel economy, and last but not least lower tax (many Asian nations tax by engine displacement, the 2L engine is a huge difference comparing with the old 3.5L 2GR-FE ES 350s). While I personally would never consider the ES 200 and 250 as they are severely underpowered, lack many iconic features that the ES is proud of, and not a hybrid (I own a 06 ES350 ,fantastic car, also own a hybrid Corolla), I can see why some people would consider them or why Lexus would even bother designing one. Entry-level corporate executive vehicles, entry-level limousines or ride-sharing comes to mind. Just maybe not for the wider Lexus/Toyota lovers out there.

They could put 2.7 liter engine at least if they wanted to use 4 cylinder
@damilolaakanni2 жыл бұрын
The 2.7 is a truck engine, and it makes much less power than the 2.5.
@mahdavimail2 жыл бұрын
@@damilolaakanni yes you are right I mean a modified turbo version lol
@damilolaakanni2 жыл бұрын
@@mahdavimail it's more likely they'll use the 2.4 turbo in the NX. They've been using that engine for a while now and it makes adequate power (about 275HP).
@vladchan2 жыл бұрын
If you want AWD go for the RX350. You will get an honest to goodness V6 engine and a modern full time AWD system which sends power front and back and side to side as needed. A 4 cylinder in a luxury car, seriously, Toyota? A 2006 vintage AWD system?
@naveenthemachine2 жыл бұрын
Or you could get a Highlander with a more advanced AWD system with torque vectoring, something lacking on the rx
@SibRevs2 жыл бұрын
Hey Amd. Is there talk of Toyota getting rid of the V6 for the next generation Lexus ES?
@naveenthemachine2 жыл бұрын
Don’t be surprised if it happens. They put in the nx. They could likely even put it in the RX
@InternetDude2 жыл бұрын
Let's hope they do. V8's are already obsolete due to emissions and fuel economy, 6's are next. Hybrids rule.

Hello, It is true that Lexus can only be taken to Dealers and not to general repairs shop. I want an NX model but someone told me that I can't take it to my trusted mechanic.. Thanks
@garyj40462 жыл бұрын
You can, but I wouldn't. Lexus vehicles are VERY dependable and if given regular service they should not require anything more than routine maintenance. Lexus service is not overpriced like European autos and when you go to a Lexus or Toyota dealer your sure to get OEM parts installed by qualified technicians. It will cost a little more on a given visit than the corner garage, but it's well worth it. PS - change oil every 5k mi if you want the engine to last , basically - FOREVER...

Noise doesn’t bother me, I just gradually and sloooowly accelerate to highway speeds. I enjoy seeing the pissed off people speeding around me in their Civics, Chargers, Mustangs, or lifted 4x4s. People keep talking about its so heavy to be a 4 banger, but it’s only approximately 200 pounds more than a Camry with the same motor, so don’t carry passengers! 😂

I drive 160 miles a day through the snowbelt. Front wheel drive is decent until you have to drive through 10” of snow for 160 miles to get to work. Too bad this engine is a dog. I drove my 92’ ES300 through the snowbelt after getting 10” storm snow. Unplowed roads. New all season tires. I was following my brand new 96’ Subaru Outback. The Lexus was making it but really struggling. The Outback went through like the roads were clear. 1996. That’s when I knew I needed AWD.
