After several looks at the AWD version and Hybrid variant, we are able to help identify why someone would buy this to keep over some of the competitors. What would you choose, Genesis G80, BMW 3 Series, Audi A3, Acura TLX?

Romantic but probably unrealistic view of the future. in 20 years cars with ICEs will be only on display or driven on special occasions by rich people. Normal “Gas” (as you americans say) won’t be affordable if the future goes on as it looks like today.

I am in my 20's and drive an older ES 350 that I mainly bought for comfort and reliability. In the first few months after I bought it, I was a little self-conscious because it wasn't as "fun" as my friends' German cars. But honestly, I no longer feel that way. Like you said, the NA V6 is such a delight. The technology is very minimal and just what I need, and I'm very happy to see that it hasn't changed years later in the 2022 ES. This car isn't about standing out; it's the exact opposite actually. It's about the DRIVER, about being comfortable and having a best friend that will never fail you. I plan on keeping my ES as a daily driver until the wheels fall out, because unfortunately regulations are ruining the industry, and soon everything budget friendly will have cheap turbo-charged engines.

My number one goal when buying a car is reliability. Lexus has never disappointed me. I'll take the high fuel consumption - even while living in Denmark - as part of the package. Maintenance is cheap, yearly checks are cheap, insurance is relatively cheap. Peugeot did nothing but break down for me and even the so famed Audi and Mercedes kept breaking down or show error lights and always had something broken during the maintenance. List of things that broke on my Lexusses: End of list. P.S. Just have your shit break down in the middle of nowhere in a country you can't speak the language of. Then you will understand how important reliability is.

@@R4M_Tommy On a Peugeot? Forget it, sir. It will break down any time for any reason. Not cool in the middle of Lithuania. They are absolute garbage and last very short. I always maintained my A4 and E class very well (all used vehicles mind you, just like the Lexusses) but occasionally it showed an error lamp and had to bring it to the garage. Then they found out the sensor that senses the thing that's broken itself is broken. At maintenance I had to change the 'carrying arms' (word for word translation, dont know in English) twice on the Audi. That is a design flaw plain and simple. I drive very long distances and people rely on me for medical relief. I cannot allow my shit breaking down and if you find yourself in Copenhagen, reply again as I will honest to God reach out to you so you can find out for yourself.

It's going to put the power down much better than a FWD ES 350 but still be super comfortable on long road trips. I can drive 6-7 hours in that car and not be exhausted from all the NVH and harsh ride of a sports car. Yet its 0-60 is only 5.6 seconds. Only 0.1 seconds slower than the 1992 Acura NSX that I once owned.

Great review, totally agree! I always dismissed this car as an old man's retirement car...but I finally drove one recently, and I totally get the appeal. The reason it still has a boring FWD setup is that customers buying this car prioritize comfort & reliability...it effortlessly centers itself on the highway - never experienced that before in a car - no one is tossing the ES into corners, at least not more than once. It does exactly what it was designed to do, and if you take it for what it is, it is immensely enjoyable.

One of the best rundowns you’ve ever done. While I won’t own one of these, you touch upon the practical elements of what so many cars cannot get right. I know there’s a lot of R&D that goes into things like NVH or tactility, but damn-near every manufacturer spends far more time on tech that fights what matters so much more. Hats off to Lexus for sticking to core elements, and succeeding.

Ordered and purchased a new 2022 Lexus ES350 Ultra Luxury in September for my wife, her third ES350 and her favorite by far! She watched this video at my request and that helped cement the deal. She loves the upgrades in this new version (previous one 2016) and everything you said in your video is spot on. She hopes to keep this car a long long time and loves the silky engine and transmission. We have already taken two 3-hour trips in it and it is much more comfortable for me (bad back) than her previous ES350. Love the Apple CarPlay and Mark Levinson audio system. Avalon is a better car overall. It is the same as the ES, without the Lexus badge. Your insurance rates will be lower, you'll pay Toyota maintenance costs versus Lexus, and you can work out a rebate much easier on the Avalon as opposed to the ES. An Avalon, with rebates, can be had at the top-of-the-range Limited trim, at a lower price than a base ES.

@@texan903 Stating my bias up front as an ES buyer, Avalon was a fine car and a better value overall in many ways, but it was not a better car. The ES is clearly superior in numerous specific metrics: sound insulation, standard and optional sound systems, quality of interior mateirals being just a few. The Avalon objectively beat the ES in three areas: folding rear seats (not an ES omission, but reflects a choice by engineers to add an extra structural stiffening brace to the ES that blocks the pass-through), the availability of heated rear seats (a real and puzzling ES omission), and that stupid touchpad --- but in '22, ES fixed it with a touchscreen. Every other area, ES generally wins, as it should with its higher price.

I don’t see this as a car for boring people, I believe that this is a perfect car for someone who wants luxury that can be affordable AND keep a low profile as this is comfortable and easy to deal with type of car. You don’t need an S-Class to be happy this is more than enough

Got my 2019 ES350. Perfect for my highway commute and keeps my backside comfortable.

My mom has owned 3 generations of the ES, currently driving the current gen since 2019. The current gen's suspension is 100% better, it is noticeably stiffer but without loss of comfort, you can actually take a corner at speed without coming to a full stop in fear of rolling over. But the best thing I love Lexus for doing to this generation is 6:58 in the front where the splash shield ends there is a cutout exposing the subframe. 7:23 in the rear right between the control arm and exhaust they've welded on a dedicated stand off right on the subframe. Both were not there for the previous gen, this makes jacking up the car so much easier. For someone who works on their cars, change tires twice a year, this is pretty significant for me. I work on a lot of new cars, they get more covered up each generation, I'm glad Lexus is taking the little steps to help out the little guy.

I have a 2019 ES350 and I absolutely love it. I was a BMW Fanboy for years owning several of their "high tech" turbo'd straight 6's. After getting so frustrated with the problems and bills from all the breakdowns I finally switched. I honestly don't all the hate lexus gets for V6 in these I went from a 335i to this and it's not that different and I drive it like a racecar all the time. Even though It's a bit slower I find its power delivery more engaging. I can't wait for the IS 500.

I just switched from BMW Active hybrid 3 to Lexus es 350 because the BMW was costing too much to maintain. It was a piece of junk after 75 k miles. This car is so smooth, quiet and comfortable. I got the ultra luxury and the technology is leaps and bounds ahead of BMW.

you gave an excellent review! I bought my '14, ES350, brand new. I'm approaching 100K- it's the first car I have ever owned, that drives as good as it di the day I bought it. I have had absolutely no issues with this car. I've also never owned a car that has held up so well. I live in Rochester, NY, where we have harsh winters and use road salt.... to date, I do not have a spec of rust. The body has held up amazingly- still get a mirror finish with routine washing. I'm looking a buying the new 2021, this November. Thank you so much for this review!

Good review! I have a similar FWD setup and as he mentioned when I pull into traffic on wet pavement, the wheels just spin and I end up creeping slowly into oncoming traffic. It doesn't happen often but it's scary when it does.

I have a 2007 ES350. Probably one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Old, high miles, rusty, but rides smooth, enough power to move itself, and quiet. I would buy a new one. Can’t get cars like this anymore.
