Good morning everyone! During the off-road driving scene, the Frontier had a weird fault that you can see and hear on camera. We spoke to Nissan about it and they have identified the issue in this pre-production model and it will be fixed in the final productions cars that are heading to dealer next month!

A lot of people have bashed Nissan in recent years due to their CVTs, spotty reliability etc. and perhaps rightly so. However, I'm very impressed with Nissan's strong comeback! Don’t be an ass. Wife’s Nissan Maxima went through two alternators, two climate control systems, all of the catalytic converters, etc within 130k. This is honestly a terrible time to be a new car buyer. Prices are inflated like crazy because of the chip and other component shortages. I paid $29,000 for my Ford Ranger brand new in 2019. I've seen used ones with the exact same configuration at the dealers, even with more miles than my truck going for $30000.

Having owned a couple Frontiers over the years, I'm fairly impressed with this redesign. It is a good looking exterior design and the new engine and transmission combo seems pretty impressive. That said, the interior still seems a bit cheap to me and is still missing a few basic features, like a telescoping steering wheel. Overall, I think it's a worthy update, but I have no plans to rush out and get one. I'm actually shopping for a low mile used 2nd gen Frontier right now, which will be my 3rd Frontier. I do like this redesign, but I see no reason to upgrade from a recent 2nd gen. Also, the 4x4 issue you had was a bit concerning.

@Jon Smith Who gives a sh*t. Not everyone buys a vehicle with plans to sell it. I (stupidly) bought into the Tacoma hype and purchased a brand new 2020 TRD OR and I hated it. It drove like sh*t, gutless power and an absurd level of chassis vibration at nearly all speeds, unbelievably unrefined for a vehicle that cost over $40k. I hated that truck so much I sold it 8 months later because I couldn't stand driving it everyday. The Tacoma is overpriced and over-hyped by cult-like fanboys. Sadly, I learned that lesson the hard way. Don't believe the hype!

I traded a 2019 Ranger for the Pro4x and the naturally aspirated engine was one of the main selling points for me. The Ranger had good power, but it wasn't consistent which seems to be common with turbos. I'm also concerned about long term reliability having such a small displacement engine moving so much weight. Besides replacing turbos I think the smaller engine will probably wear out sooner. The interior and everything else was light years ahead of the Ranger. That's the 2019 Ranger, I don't know if anything changed in the years after.

And don’t get me started on Ford’s warranty service it’s sad. This truck is solid and as a daily driver way better than anything else out right now. I get stopped at least once a day someone complimenting this truck and wanting to know more. It’s like driving a smaller Titan. 14:00 I am not an automatic transmission expert but if we look at the pictures of the internal design for the Nissan's 9-speed AT JR913E and the Mercedes-Benz 9G-Tronic they are looks identical even the torque converter design. Good review 👍 Thanks.

It's a Mercedes designed transmission built by the Japanese company JatCo. It appear to be identical to the Mercedes version because the design is identical.

great review. nice to see you are more open to how many of your viewers embrace a little bit of the old tech and how some like a truck to look and sound like a truck. Car like refinement is good to a point. I do also like the new tech. great combination and nice looking truck. Great camera work on your video as well.

Really love the new exterior, just wish Nissan would have used that front end on the Pathfinder instead of the redesign they used but with a 1-2in higher suspension. I think Nissan is on the right track with their new trucks overall but they need to step it up and take advantage of the hype while they can. They need to come up with more engine choices (i.e. electric, hybrid) and more trims. Basically they need to copy Toyota's recipe with their trucks, having actual off-road version, luxury, Turbo version with more HP etc. Same with their Pathfinder. Really happy they finally got rid of their CVT too, hopefully they get rid it on their cars too. IF Nissan can get aftermarket support on their vehicles, they would blow up like Toyota has. That's my main issue with the Titan, barely if any aftermarket support to lift it, and make it off-road worthy. P.S. That off-road transmission issue was troubling seems to need work to make truly off-road worthy.

In my opinion i think the Tacoma looks more aggressive but this frontier just has that traditional muscular truck look that’s just stunning to stare at. so for me at moment I would buy this over a Tacoma HANDS DOWN!!! $38k for the top-of-line trim with the exception of add-on it’s a good deal

I cant imagine paying tacoma money for a 2000s truck. Aside from android auto and apple carplay, the drivetrain is old and the same as the last generatiom truck. To me thats what matters is the drivetrain. If i was a nissan diehard, i would buy the 2021 with the same 3.8l v6 for way cheaper. These days even front wheel drive unibody trucks have offroad drive modes. No excuse for nissan to skip out here

I can't wait to see it in person. I'm seriously considering this over my current Tacoma. Hopefully it will be affordable. I'll probably get the SV trim but if possible, I would love to get the ProX trim since I'm in Florida and don't need 4WD on the Pro4X. I'm surprised at how revy this engine is. It reminds me of my Tacoma but with a better transmission. But, like you said, it's naturally aspirated and gasps for air when pushing it to high RPMs.
