Could be the brake pads. Either they are cheap pads or maybe they are race pads that have to be hot to work properly.

The fuel gauge thing on the MT09, you need to go the settings and change that second line of Drive info. The previous riders must have changed the option.

Not exactly: you have two lines on the screen in which you can choose what to display (odo, temp, fuel etc) You just select it with the right hand selector wheel thing, no diving into settings

Getting back for the MT10 CP4 after my last in 2018. Best motor in the industry. Collecting my MT10 SP tomorrow after one ducati diavel, 3 aprilias Tuonos v4s and one ZH2. Its fun, its competent, awsome motor and stellar quality and garanties (5 years in Sweden), perfekt riding position, both comfort and still sporty enough when the speeds are high.

The (factory spec) pads on the MT-10 are really disappointing, but a quick swap to any sintered road/racing pads makes a *massive* difference in initial bite and feel and gives you way more confidence under braking 👌

That is what I had done for my 2020 MT09 SP - swap for steel-braided brake lines and SBS track / road brake pads - works like a treat!

It seems like most new bikes today suffer the same thing ...I understand it is mainly caused by overzealous ABS interference supposedly even on some high end track focused bikes with Brembo components that is what one prominent (and totally disgusted with issue tester) claims ....so then if it really is true it can be fixed by simply changing the pads? that will seriously be both surprising and will then conflict with these other experts that loudly and adamantly are claiming ABS is the cultrit ...And lets be real here it IS hard to believe manufacturers would not simply put better pads on if it that were REALLY the problem! If that would be dramatically better especially on a premium SP version where they already resorted to steel braided lines...ya know? I mean think about it... I remain skeptical pads alone will transorm the brakes on very many bikes. Makes me also remember how people claim all sorts of things supposedly "trasformed" their bike things like an air filter or even a differnt oil! Or an exhaust for example that later a dyno proves hardly made a difference maybe even less hp some times...all I am saying is maybe there is a bit of hallucination involved wanting it so badly to be so?

@@dougiequick10 nah I have the first gen fz1 and it has the same problem. Along with Spintered brakes like the mt-10 it fixes the weird brake feeling instantly.

Fuel gauge is on the MT-09(SP and Regular). It's just that you need to change what displays for one of the two(either one) items that is shows on the bottom right. On the topic of the Yamaha brakes... yeah I know what you mean. This holds true for cars too. My BRZ had pretty meh brakes. Master cylinder would move during braking, causing a not so great brake feel. An aftermarket bracket resolved it, somewhat. But then driving a newer 6 series BMW the brake feel is AMAZING and it really makes a difference.

Brakes…I changed out the pads, as per a uk review, a few years back. That made a huge difference. Hopefully it’s the same for the new generation. Nice review 👍🤪🇨🇦

With the last MT-10 video you did, comments were made about brakes. I agree that the stock brakes aren't great for the class. The 10 was compared to the likes of other, significantly more expensive, motorcycles such as the Tuono and Superduke. I could spend 20k on a SD and still not have the reliability or service costs of a Yamaha. Price is a major factor for most people, thanks for this video man.

It's the crappy Yamaha pads. Changed to ebc on my 09sp. Made a big difference. Will be doing the same on my mt10.

I was very fortunate in having last years model on loan for three weeks back in August, I'm now in a position to go buy the 2024 model. There's been a number of refinements made. You constantly mentioned brakes but rhe brakes are not broken in on a new motorcycle. Brake feel will improve dramatically when the brakes are broken in.

In my mind the best thing about this SP is the electronic semi active suspension! ALL you have to do is set the preload front and rear and if you want it in sport mode A1 or touring mode A2 (on the tracer 9 anyway) and then the BIKE handles ALL the adujstments actively as you ride totally automatic! Which if you know zilch about setting up suspension and have no desie to learn? THAT is just ideal! If it is even as good as the tracer9 semi active suspension I would love it! But my guess is it is ripped right off the R!~

The MT 09sp does have a fuel gage as I own one and very good it is too. That's the only problem with just test riding a bike for half hour then doing a reveiw you don't see all the qualities of the bike. On the settings you can decide what to show on the screen so whoever test rode it before you obviously decided to display the trip or odo reading instead of the fuel gauge.

Hi moto jitsu, I have an mt10sp, all you need to do is service the brakes at 600 miles and grease the sliding pins and apply grease to back of pads, the factory do not apply grease! Then there are fine one finger, they need to bed in as well.

Maybe the master cylinder on the brakes has adjustable ratio to do less travel. I know good brembo brake levers has this option. Thanks for the review. Great as always.

somehow it does not feel like a 1:1 comparison (m1000r and the mt10sp) but i do see your point when it comes to to the brakes and agree they should be better off the dealers floor. Would be nice to get an M version of the MT10 SP (maybe an MT10 M - SP) titanium rods, lighter wheels :) a bigger screen would also add nicely to the look

Excuse me latest gen MT90 DOES have a fuel guage! Possibly it was not selected as a viewed item I know on the tracer you can select something else instead I imagine it also can track fuel consumed since reset/fill up but I;m also sure when the fuel light finally comes on it will count down how many miles it might go on whats left ....but it certaintly DOES have a friggen fuel guage no matter how bad it is there is one lol

Is the intent of the slower brakes to benefit potential newer riders who are more prone to panic brake? Maybe just a bit of a forgiveness buffer incase Timmy decides to pick up an MT. Hope it’s mostly just stock pad compound to blame.

What's the more comfortable bike between the Triumph 1200 speed triple RS and this bike and which one do you prefer. My wrists are messed up so I need to be as upright as possible.

Clearly mt10 has a better riding position. On 1200 you are leaning forward like on superbike.

I have to try the BMW M1KR vs MT-10 SP, but I doubt the Beemer will be enough better to merit the extra $5K. I could be wrong, but you could upgrade the brakes AND tires for $5k with a little work... And that's only IF you can really walk out the door with the Beemer for only 20k.

Change the brake fluid with ATE DOT4. Brake bleeding is a bit of an art.

Talk about the ergonomics why don`t you? The BMW`s riding position is 9/10th superbike, it will F**K your wrists and neck, the MT-10 is a comfortable bike that bullies the tarmac. They are worlds apart in everything but category bike "supernaked"

Bmw has always had so so many electronics issues! Not really great they don’t have all their electronics under control really obviously. And it’s quite annoying if you bought a brand new bike and it stands at the repair station most of the time. And all the time something new. On top the engine of the RR or in this case the M1000R has the shift cam engine! And this engine might sound great on paper but its everything but not reliable! If you ask people going on the racetrack from time to time you will see how many times they have issues! Or just check the statistics of which bike has the most issues and had to be repaired unexpectedly BMW is on place 2 or 3! No1 I think was even triumph if I am not mistaken ! Don’t take my word for that but bmw definitely was on the top 3 of the worst bikes reliability wise!!! And that’s really BAD!!
