Huge props to Hyundai for making a car in a time where every manufacturer is switching to crossovers. Also the fact that it actually has an interesting design is a bonus.

Also that fact that it has solid range and quick charging at and affordable price is great. Midsize ICE/hybrid sedans can cost 40K these days. Edit: if you lease an Ioniq 7500 tax credit makes it on par with other sedans. Also Hyundai is offer 239/month 0 down lease nationwide till April 1st on base SE RWD model. Great deal

You mean props to Tesla because Hyundai just copied the Model 3 a few years after when they realized how successful it was. Just a shame it has to look so ugly because I'm a fan of the Ioniq5.

And consumers rejected this like they do all sedans. Ioniq 6 global shipments in Jan/Feb is -90% year on year. Ioniq 6 resale is like $10k lower than a similar Ioniq 5. It's clear most consumers globally would rather have hatchbacks and crossovers.

They barely manage to sell 500-1,000 of these every month. At this rate, it will become unprofitable to sell in the US, which means it probably won't make it past 2026. The legroom is fine, but for the class and price range it's in, the cargo space lacks. And it's a Hyundai, which doesn't help.

Picked up a ‘24 SEL AWD last month. What a great daily driver! Yes, no tax incentive, but Hyundai is lopping $7,500 off the cost to remain competitive because of that. I was going to get a hybrid vehicle, but the cost for the Ioniq 6 got so close, I chose EV, instead. I was going to grab a ‘23, as they had even more incentives, but there was a stop sale due to a recall. Because of that, the dealer gave me even more off on a ‘24. My car’s MSRP was $50K and I got it for $39K. Lots of car for that amount of money! It has so many great qualities, as Alex covered excellently, of course.

Honestly Alex, I've watched tons of your videos over the years and you are so thorough that I rarely have a question about the car after watching one. That's what sets you apart from most of the 60 billion other people doing car "reviews" on YT. Anyway, my personal experience-- I just got an Ioniq 5 (Limited, AWD) in late January. Very happy with it, but I seriously considered the 6-- LOVE the styling and the extra bit of range. Ultimately, I went with the 5 because I wanted a hatch and preferred the 5's more open interior and massive sunroof (but with a shade). Also, there was an extra $2.5K in rebates on the hood on the 5 ($10K total) for being a Chevy Bolt owner, which was not available on the 6. Still, my neighbor around the corner bought a 6, and yeah, I'm a tiny bit jealous (though his is RWD, so not really).

I'm glad Hyundai isn't going bonkers with the sunroof. Why EV makers insist on these huge glass canopies that make the vehicles hotter and require more energy to cool is beyond me.
@Tokamak3.1415
@Tokamak3.1415 10 ай бұрын
Structural laminate glass has a higher tensile strength than a steel roof. For the energy absorption portion of the ends and sides of the car to work properly the main safety box needs to deform as minimally as possible so the energy can be directed into the deformable segments. You could put a metal rail system on top but that would add 200 pounds more than a glass canopy. Maybe see through aluminum someday, but for now glass works better.

@Tokamak3.1415
@Tokamak3.1415 9 ай бұрын
@@stanwbaker Ultimately it's your choice as a consumer. If you don't like those glass roofs don't buy one. I was just pointing out the reasoning why auto makers are using it - because it's both cheaper and stronger than a conventional steel roof. It also offers more headroom than a steel roof.... until you put a sliding shade underneath it. The reason you have less headroom is the tendency for automakers to make these coupe CUVs that luxury marks like MB and BMW started doing about 6 years ago and now everybody wants to make something that is high off the ground and yet has a low roofline - basically you have to ride like a low rider. I drive a Model X and a Honda Odyssey minivan - I don't care how I appear to others I only care about safety and function.

Yeah the 10-100% charging time is seriously understated. For our long road trips, it allows us to take various routes given that CCS is so spread out in some places. Also, thanks so much for pointing out the Kona. I am confused as well as to why they didn't slap that 800v battery in it. My only thought is the supplier for the current battery either gave them a super deal, or they had a ton of them in inventory. But man, the size of the Kona and the Niro are just perfect. I can't wait until those charge up super fast like my EV6. The Ioniq 6 is just too big for me. The EV6 is the biggest car I've ever owned.

I am in the market and I would get this over a Tesla Model 3. Here's why: 1. Better looking. Has a more premium look and feel than the tesla, and everybody does have one 2. More back seat space. Huge back seat 3. Lower price, better value. For less than the price of Model 3 Long Range, you get a Ioniq 6 Limited AWD 4. Higher quality. Yes, by any metric, Hyundais have much better quality than Teslas 5. For 2025, it charges at Tesla Superchargers, standard. 6. No glass roof. The glass roof in the Tesla has no cover, so it bakes the entire interior in. heat, if you live in a warm climate. The Ioniq has a moonroof that opens over the car, cooling the interior, and it has a sunshade

Hey Alex, your issue with the bad charging recommendation is due to a bad design choice they made. The nav determines the max charging on a trip to what you choose as the max charging in the charging menu. So if you lower the DC charging to 80% or less in the other menu, you get much better recommendations. But then when you get to a stop which goes a bit longer than you expect and the car stops charging at 80% when you could have had more... That just sucks.

8:18 when you talk about efficiency, can you throw a mi/kWh number on the screen, or whatever the industry-standard measurement of efficiency is? Obviously this depends on tons of factors like speed, terrain, weather, and driving style, but an expected real-world number or whatever energy consumption you saw on your standard EV test route is would put the energy efficiency number into perspective. Once we have sufficient charging infrastructure in place for road trips, the number that will matter more is energy efficiency, not range. Just like we measure ICE vehicles not by the size of their gas tank, but by their mpg fuel economy. Edit: just realized you threw in fuel economy at 26:22. Would have been nice to have this number on screen at the same time as listing the battery range at 8:18.

18:10 -- I believe it always charges to your set max charge level. So if you changed your charge limit to 80%, it would recommend charging to 80%. At least that's what the Ioniq 5 does (or did in some software version -- I rarely use the built-in nav, so I'm not sure if anything has changed). It's not a great algorithm either way.

Stuff like the giant screen, KZbin if I’m waiting, the awesome charging network , no key fob needed, no need to hit ‘start” or ‘stop’ for the car, autopilot, more space compared to the Ioniq 5 and the 6, glass roof etc. and it’s way faster w 3.5 0-60. I still like my 19 Ioniq ev and still have it and use it daily but the Tesla software is so much better than every other company I’ve had

Alex didn’t even touch on the fit and finish of this vehicle compared to a Tesla which is 100 times better than any Tesla product on the market today. Tesla makes a nice car, but they still have a ways to go when it comes to their build quality. What really puts them over the hump in most peoples opinion is their charging network but soon that won’t even be a factor. Hyundai and Kia are killing it.

I like the front and rear design a lot, but in profile, it looks stumpy and awkward with the downward arching shape front to back. Looks like a turtle. That aside, it seems like a very nice car and a solid value. Hyundai battery cost is more than the price of the car though, so I suspect that's what's driving down the real-world purchase price for people. Consumer fear. Also, can we acknowledge the superior interior design of the Ioniq 6 over the Tesla Model 3? It's a unique, modern, clean design with real tactile buttons, which are so much better than Tesla's gimmicky huge touchscreen to operate everything.
