Well, OK, so it's not the Lexus LM we REALLY want, but the TX is the next best thing with significantly more room in the 3rd row than in the MDX, XC90, Q7, or pretty much anything else in the luxury segment. It's not sporty, but it will get you 30 miles of EV range and 30 MPG just as a hybrid. Not enough? It's also the only TX available with a V6 under the hood...

It's for weight savings. Same with the lack of a bench seat. That battery is HEAVY. Think about it: 30-35 miles on pure electric and no gas whatsoever? How small did you think the battery would be in this size vehicle? 😂

3-place bench in both back rows, at least as an option, would be ideal. But, it could be weight related like the sunroof/moonroof omission though and it would make sense. Extra people are quite heavy.

You guys are spot on. The Grand Hylander and TX look just like mini-vans. In fact, the Kia minivan looks more like an SUV than the Toyota pair. I think that's great because mini-vans are attractive to me. Heck, soccer moms in my town only drive SUVs and pickup trucks these days. Alex and Travis, That dark blue is a gorgeous hue and fitting for a luxury offering.🤩 The TX 550h+ is a step in the right direction but there is no 35 mpg TX as we see with the Grand Highlander. The absence of a spare tire is happening too often in Toyota/Lexus Hybrids these days.🤨

One thing I am wondering about is if this has a "room" mode where HVAC works over an extended period of time with the other functions of the car being off. It may make a great camping vehicle with all that cargo space if it did. Also, can the 120V 1500W outlet be used when the car is off, or in a way that it would cycle the gas engine on and off to keep the battery sufficiently charged. If so it would make a great generator to power a backup home window AC etc when the home power is out.

The lack of a moon roof is actually a big plus for me, I've never liked the idea of cutting a hole in the roof. The market, as a whole, isn't going to like it one bit though. So it's a massive omission vis-a-vis competitors for luxury three-row SUV to lack that feature. It must have been the added weight (straw) that broke this particular platforms (camel's) back.

The more I read about and see reviews of the TX, it seems like Lexus whiffed. First off, don't get me wrong, it is indeed either class leading or pretty darn close to it for human and cargo space. No idea why it's taken this long for the industry to come out with a premium 3 row crossover of this size I'm not talking about the BOF SUVs), but it's long been sorely needed for those who, you know, actually need a 3rd row in a crossover format. That said, many of Lexus' design choices are puzzling at best. Austere interior that doesn't readily look premium, bland color palette inside and out (except for the blue, that color is gorgeous!), no wood trim, no triple beam headlamps, no pano roof for the PHEV, no full leather option, and so on. For a purported luxury trim, the decontenting from existing Lexus models reeks of cost cutting and, frankly, in my opinion lazy engineering. That said, I intend to give the 550h+ a hard look whenever it eventually comes out. I'm in the class of folks who actually need a usable 3rd row, as we're close to ourgrowing our Sorento PHEV, and the wife has ixnayed a minivan. I'd like to stay PHEV since it's the best for our use case, but there are enough questionable design choices about the 550h+ that make me a bit leery about shelling out that kind of money.

A grand slam would be to bring this exact powertrain over to a Toyota Grand Highlander!!! A lot of people can’t afford a $75K Lexus nor the more costly maintenance. I’d definitely buy a Toyota version though and I think a lot of other people would as well. I would buy it even if it wasn’t a PHEV. A hybrid V6 GH is what will sell. I can’t get into the idea of a large 5K pound SUV with a 4 cylinder, regardless of turbo charged or not. Turbo 4’s should be for small cars like a Corolla or Civic… not a large SUV. There will be too high RPM’s, higher temps and shorter life plus it will sound horrible and feel clunky. I won’t buy a GH with a 4 cylinder that’s for sure.

Good comparison with the Volvo, that's certainly what I'd go for over this. If you've got the likely 80k for carting around Jack, Jane and Jeremiah to soccer practice in one of these than your unlikely to be that worried about paying a little more for parts and service on the Volvo. Good first review, but once again too much money for the average consumer. Limited to six seats is not an advantage. MPH is good. No mention of towing capacity?? A lot of people want at least a sun roof that opens. Seems they wanted to release a PHEV quickly, so little thought given to how to reduce overall weight. I don’t consider Volvo to be a European car manufacturer anymore. They have sold out to China. Their vehicles are manufactured in China. I certainly would not buy a Volvo no matter how well it is priced and how good its features over a USA manufacturer. Would not buy Volvo even if it was manufactured in the USA. It’s still a Chinese vehicle.

Take what you will from: “The new Jeep Grand Cherokee might be a great looking vehicle, but recent models have had a few significant issues. Because of this, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee isn’t considered one of the most reliable SUVs. It has a 77 out of 100 predicted reliability score from J.D. Power. Additionally, Consumer Reports says that the vehicle will be less reliable than other new vehicles. It should be noted that the 2022 Jeep Cherokee was also bad in this area. In addition to being one of the least reliable SUVs, the 2023 Grand Cherokee isn’t all that safe either. Though the NHTSA hasn’t tested the latest model, the last few have ranked as poor in a few key areas. In fact, the 2022 Jeep Cherokee tested received an overall rating of poor. So if safety is your focus for a new vehicle, which it is for many, there are much better options out there.”

Make an actual argument. You just said it was bad with absolutely no explanation.
@naveenthemachine
@naveenthemachine 11 ай бұрын
@@TheGerm24 Sure I’ll elaborate on why. The exterior is not attractive at all. It’s not to the same degree of polish as we see in the X5, GLE, XC90, GV80, Q7, Aviator, MDX, XT6, QX60, CX90, Telluride, Palisade, Sorento, EV9, Santa Fe, Pathfinder, or the LC500. The only vehicle that looks worse than the tx are the crown and the bz4x. But cmon that’s a very low bar… The TX350 w the 2.4 turbo 4 will be as slow as a Toyota Corolla at 8.5 seconds 0-60. Not very competitive. Almost anything else I can think of is faster: MDX, qx60, xt6, pilot telluride palisade, cx90, gv80, aviator, xc90 pathfinder etc. Only the ford ecosport or Mitsubishi mirage are slower than the TX. That’s a very low bar to compare the three in the same sentence. The competition however can get away with turbo 4s as their base engine because they’re more powerful, they sound better, they’re smoother, and they’re significantly faster. The TX500h F Sport Performance (yeah right on performance 🙄) isn’t any faster than a base MDX, telluride palisade, xt6, qx60, base ford explorer 2.3, cx90 etc. it’ll do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds in the real world. Yet it’s still significantly slower than the MDX type S, gv80 3.5T, base aviator, or even the upcoming inline 6 in the Jeep SUVs. And yes Alex, your former 2018 dodge Durango citadel anodized platinum v8 AWD is significantly faster. And your Durango SRT is even faster than that. F sport performance? Seriously? 😂. The tx550h+ is still very slow. 0-60 in 6 seconds. It’s the same as the 500h yet it’s significantly more expensive. And it’s still significantly slower than any aviator, any x5, any xc90, MDX type S, gv80 3.5T, even a ford explorer ST. The interior is such a disappointment. It’s cheap, doesn’t scream elegance of any kind. No leather dash, leather doors, leather airbag cover, wood trim, metal speaker grilles. The interior has no chance to compete with any of its rivals. If you think using injection molded plastics throughout the interior screams quality, you may as well get a rav4 LE and say it’s a better quality cabin than a bmw x3. It lacks so many features compared to the competition. What are those missing features? Easy: Double wishbone front suspension, air suspension, passenger memory, massaging seats, 4 zone climate control, ottomans with long slide seats, power 2nd row seats like the ev9 Santa Fe and carnival, heated 3rd row seats like the palisade, less speakers than rivals. The tech is completely useless with the lack of physical buttons, gimmicky door handles and the useless touchpad heads up display combo. I agree that the interior space is great. Unfortunately is the interior space in a telluride or palisade. It’s not like for its size, the tx or grand highlander has the same space as an Escalade ESV. That would be a game changer if it did, but it’s not. The space isnt really better than an aviator or xc90. As mentioned, the performance falls behind just about everything else. Handling also falls significantly behind any of the competition. Ride quality isn’t better than a telluride or palisade, but still not as polished as the air suspension options. As for fuel economy, well it’s a luxury car so the less said about that the better. Did i mention that it’s way overpriced? The MDX xt6 qx60 xc90 grand Cherokee telluride palisade are much better deals than this bigger rav4 with lipstick. It costs 55K for a base 350 while a 500h is 70K. So that Cadillac xt6 you said is way overpriced and Infiniti qx60 sound like much better deals than this even at MSRP. And the PHEV will definitely cost 80-90K. So the same price as an xc90 recharge or aviator grand touring black label, yet you get slow performance, horrid driving dynamics, a dated exterior and cheap interior.

Only a rav4 LE has a worse interior than this. Also anyone who buys an expensive car shouldn’t care about mpg. Alex owns a Durango SRT which costs over 70k. Do you see him whining about mpg?
