Күн бұрын

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with entrepreneur, U.S. representative, and 2024 presidential candidate Dean Phillips. They discuss his now-suspended presidential campaign, the monolithic opposition he faced getting platformed, the reality of President Joe Biden’s age, the core issues facing America right now, and the comparative pathologies of Republicans and Democrats respectively.
Dean Phillips is an American businessman and congressman, serving as the U.S. representative of Minnesota’s 3rd District since 2019. Phillips has started and run several companies over the years (Such as Talenti Gelato) and served as CEO of his family's liquor business, Phillips Distilling Co, for 12 years (2000-2012). Phillips ran as the only Democrat against Joe Biden in the 2024 election. On March 6th, 2024, he suspended his campaign.
This episode was recorded on March 13th, 2024

It's crazy to me that his problem with Trump was his "character". No, that's BS. The problem was that it was politically incorrect to accept Trump as president because "democrats" are communists. "What you say may be true comrade, but it hurts the regime and so it is incorrect, politically" was a soviet weapon of ideological purging, and now it's the same to these neo-marxists. LGBTQ are the revolutionary vanguard, and THAT is why she was crying. She was claiming victimhood as a good marxist does. It's politically incorrect to state the obvious truth that Biden is both malicious and sunsetting. The neo-marxist ideological purge known as "wokeness" won't allow him to say it or antifa will be at his door tomorrow. He managed to twist the ideological barbarism of the trans surgeries into an attack on capitalism.

Stories like this show how easily brainwashed people are. There is no evidence of racism or homophobic behavior from Trump. The powers in charge have created a massive amount of fear and paranoia around him. We see nazis, racists, men hating women, women hating men, etc all over. He answers it with a terrible analogy too. "It's like pornography: you know when it's gone too far when you see it". All pornography is too far, all of it is bad. There is no "you'll know it when you see it". We're always told how bad the new generations are but the ones before us are so pathetic they can't see they're the ones who brought us all these issues today. "You know it when you see it" is a cop out and makes no sense because you aren't drawing any lines when we need lines drawn.

Don't get pedantic about the word "democracy". Very few people, if any, who refer to our country, or any other countries in the West, as a democracy, mean anything like the assembly of ancient Athens when they use the word. They mean a country where free elections serve as the basis for the government. That's the meaning the word has had for generations. But your point about his comment on Biden is well-taken. Phillips is a party man. Biden is not now and never was a man of integrity. Biden has lied his entire public life. Biden is vicious, nasty. incompetent and stupid man. Always has been. His senility just pulls these qualities into sharper focus.

Right out of the gate, Dean demonstrated that he was wrong about personal character being the most important aspect of a national leader's effectiveness. If that were the case, Jimmy Carter and Herbert Hoover would have been two of the greatest American presidents of the 20th Century instead of two of the worst. What Dean misses is that policy and its execution are the key characteristics for greatness. On those criteria, Trump was our best president since Ronald Reagan. As a nonpolitician, Trump understood what needed to be done. He made policy campaign promises that more than any president in living memory he actually kept, probably the most important of which was appointing three US Supreme Court justices who adjudicate cases on the basis of the written text of the Constitution, not some personal political biases that they may happen to hold. I don't care nearly as much about Trump's table manners and his sometimes boorish behavior as I do about his government policy initiatives, and I strongly support him in his campaign for reelection.

I went back and watched the remainder of the interview. After Phillips’ self-serving monologue, Jordan did a good job of asking difficult questions and raised many excellent points. I think Phillips, like most modern Democrats speaks with a forked tongue. He benefited from a stable family, religious faith and a strong culture but the party he represents is doing everything to destroy the traditional nuclear family and the Judeo-Christian values that created his country. The left of centre parties in western democracies have been highjacked by radicals on the far left and deserve to be turfed from office. The Democratic Party sorely needs moderates to show courage and speak out against the neo-Marxism that seems to have captured its soul. My apologies to Jordan for my first critical review.

But no one can separate gold that isn’t there. Which… Is exactly the issue as a whole. The man holds trinkets as Gods, and scrimshaw as Scripture. Thinks it will do anything for his Children. Thinks it will do anything for Minorities. Thinks the substance of his Life is built of that 2 Ply. Or he claims too. I think what it actually is, is that he avoids the deep questions. And has for so long he doesn’t realize the substance of what he was given. Now he’s thinking he should wake up, but has never opened his eyes. Walking around saying he sees, and proclaiming he knows the shape of things. Yet he is just trying to remember how it was described to him by others. This isn’t an accusation in the way you might think. It’s a summarization of the sense I get out of his presentation. I could get into the exact problems I have with each portion of conversation, but I have doubts that it is of any purpose here.

So you still haven't found one who will answer the question. Not surprising. I knew he wouldn't, even as you were asking. RFK, Jr. is the only politician you've interviewed who didn't annoy me immensely. Even DeSantis, whom I like, was annoying, so please don't do this very often. This politician comes across as a perfectly pleasant man, but he lost me when he said Biden was a "man of integrity" etc and he wouldn't answer Jordan's question about "when does the Left go too far?". His daughter weeping when Trump got elected in 2016 is a sign of a fragile person who has been brainwashed by social media and legacy media. The Left are such bad losers too, it's just the same here in the UK. RFK Jr and Ron DeSantis gave a better impression when Jordan interviewed them, and Vivek Ramaswamy is clearly very intelligent and one to the watch the future. The western world really needs some non-woke politicians with high IQs.

I started off listening to the podcast of this at the gym and quickly desired to see the video. I had to know how sincere Phillips was about his views. So here's a brief analysis of his body language. He's very well counselled on body language. He's also very well rehearsed in a great many aspects of his political profile. Granted, he's like many politicians who feel the need to be, and it's not a bad idea. He seems to have been counseled to avoid much eye accessing. When he's talking about something he's rehearsed, he does a down center eye accessing. He holds his hands and self-soothes with his thumbs. When he does go to a more normal eye accessing, it's typically left, sometimes down left, and sometimes up left. Many times this is when he's calculating what rehearsed story he needs to kick off, he goes to upper left. He goes down the lower left a lot when in the middle of a rehearsed segment and I think it's an eye-blocking move. His blink rate is through the roof the whole time, so that's either a rare baseline condition, or a practiced move to keep people from following when his blink rate is unintentionally increased. When things become less comfortable for him he does brow blocking that almost looks like Tourette's, and I think the quick look to left is another eye block pattern. It's away from the light. When he directly opposes Dr. Peterson, he starts off talking with his eyes closed, struggling to open them. I noticed some tongue juts, but no sniffles. Dry mouth, but no nasal irritation. I also notices some single shoulder shrugs. I find it interesting that he claims a discriminatory status as a general association with his Jewish community in the face of someone who has personally been so publicly discriminated against. Dr. Peterson doesn't rest on that status as a point of need from any government, but Phillips leverages his own claimed status to argue for legislative movements for those who he hopes will vote for him on that account. Also interesting is that he talks a good game with the idea of "angertainment" and his bemoaning politicians who say one thing on camera and another thing behind the scenes. He may be genuine. However, he's fighting a bit of apprehension of his own which may or may not be due to a similar kind of pattern. What bothers me is what bothers me about so many politicians on his side of the political aisle. He presses the narrative that Democrats care about the common person and Republicans don't. Then, he trades on this to press the kinds of things Democrats propose as the solution: money, opportunity, or education. The issue I have with this is that none of these things are the fundamental solution. They are only mediate solutions. If you give money to someone who isn't prepared to handle it well, they will lose it. If you give opportunity to someone who isn't prepared to capitalize on it, they will lose that opportunity. If you offer education to someone who isn't prepared to learn, you will turn out students who never took the opportunity to learn what was being taught. If you prepare people psychologically, they will create their own opportunities, make their own money, and seek their own education. The broken subcultures must change to instill these things in the next generations. That's regardless of whether there is a functioning metaculture. The success stories that I've heard coming from those subcultures in the West widely considered oppressed are those whose parents or guardians bucked the subculture in their upbringing. Many of these same success stories are ironically vilified in the subculture because they didn't affirm the subculture that would have otherwise resulted in their failure. There is either a sense among those in the subculture that the subculture can become functional as-is if only they weren't oppressed or that there is such a strong identity as an oppressed people that they don't want to give up that identification. Anyone who breaks free from the identity exposes the idiocy of that psychosocial condition. Sadly, many politicians capitalize and foster this identity for their own power base and Phillips seems to address this in his own scripted way.

Im here for the best of our nation, and im an independent, didnt vote first two election cycles i could have but i wouldve voted trump for both. Now its definitely Trump a 3rd time, im actually signed up to attend the booths that day. I feel like I i failed my nation not voting especially after 2020. Now we can win this time. If we can continue to keep up the fractioning of the democrats we can win with maybe a landslide. The Jewish community was non-religious, full of socialist ideals, even ran a Eugene Debs summer camp and started a free hospital which became The City of Hope in Duarte, CA. My father and uncle became 13 in the 1930s, neither were bar-mitzvahed. Both my grandfathers lived highly secular lives, even ate pork. Remove intervention in all facets of government, foster an economy that supports small businesses, offer tax incentives for citizens of the US rather than immigrants, and allow for a true free market to develop naturally without interference. Not only would this promote competition in business, but in government as well, as there would always be something more that could be done in a strive towards a better ideal.
