The 2025 NHL Draft class is shaping up to be a very interesting one, in terms of rankings, and where prospects are going to be potentially selected come draft day. #nhldraft #hockey
There seems to be a lot of variations in public rankings and I'll take a look at a few of the NHL draft 2025 lists.

Definitely not unrealistic Hagens goes 4....though I do think Schaefer will be the far and away 1 by the end of the year.

Desperately hoping that my Sharks get Schafer. If he’s already gone by the time they pick, I’d be ok with them stockpiling some additional capital and trading down for the next best D-man. Odds are SJ will be in the #3 position for the upcoming draft, so it seems very iffy that he’s around by then.

Really enjoy this video format, talking about the draft in general and new developments. Should be a very interesting class. It's been a while since there hasn't been a wire-to-wire consensus #1 pick (2022 notwithstanding since Wright was ranked #1 until the week of the draft). It's also a bit of a weaker draft in general, so just like 2017, teams with strong scouting staffs will excel once the picks become less obvious

Oh wow. Hadn't finished the vid when I typed that...some interesting similarities to 2022. I'm personally partial to the style Misa and Schaefer play, but the top 4 is all so good I could be persuaded to go for any of them. I feel that Misa will drop (as Wright did). He's a C but isn't big. Could see a team taking Martone at 1 to lock in the big power forward, or Schaefer to get a future #1 D, Hagens is the most dynamic and probably has the highest upside if he hits. If that happens, all I'm saying is that I'd run to the stage to take Mia at 4

Yes! This draft has so many moving parts! World Junior will highlight 3 big names of this draft (Hagens, Martone, Schaefer) and can definitely affect their stock. I think the draft lottery will also play a role...who drafts where and what the team's needs is/are. Love this kind of draft!

Not only is James Hagens not the best player in College hockey (like Celebrini was last year), he isn't even the best player on his own line. Perreault and Leonard have outshined him so far. No shame in that, as they're both great players. Hagens is a top 10 pick and will make a fine NHL'er some day. He's a poor man's Jack Hughes without the speed and dynamism. Schaefer goes #1 all day, every day.

​@@andrewptob You're absolutely correct. It's not a fair comparison. However, I was using Perreault and Leonard as a bit of a measuring stick. As previously stated, Celebrini was far and away the best player on the ice on any given night in the NCAA last year. The kid was electric! Jack Eichel and Adam Fantilli are two other college players that were miles ahead of everyone else. If Hagens is going to be the #1 overall pick, he realistically shouldn't have an equal in the college game. As a college hockey and Team USA fanatic, I really want Hagens to go #1 overall. I'm just not seeing it right now. Hagens is a talented and intelligent hockey player that just isn't dominating college hockey in a way I'd expect a #1 overall pick to. Another kid that stood out to me was Gavin McKenna. I watched intently as USA faced off with Canada in the 2024 U18 gold medal game last spring. Gavin McKenna (and Porter Martone) straight up outplayed James Hagens, head-to-head. Imo, Gavin McKenna is better than James Hagens is right now, despite being a year younger. Anyways, I'm certainly not an expert. These are just my observations and I could be totally wrong about Hagens. If he does well at the World Juniors and/or carries Boston College to another Frozen Four, then perhaps he'll go #1 overall. I hope he does, truly.

@@JM-gj7de I totally agree that Hagens isn’t a #1 lock as he was previously considered. He definitely does not appear to be in the realm of a Celebrini or maybe even a Will Smith. But, it should be fun to see how he and other top picks continue on this season!

Honestly thinking about it the Sharks are the one team that really can't miss if they pick top 4. Any of Schaeffer Misa Hagens Matone adds a dynamic complement to their pool of players.

It's looking like one of those years where the lottery will determine draft order. If Chicago gets the 1, are they really gonna want another small skillsy C like Hagens? I think Martone could skate in Chicago next fall.

There is a difference between the order of who deserves vs NHL teams over valuing size. Hard to believe a good 6’3” doesn’t go before 5’11”.

the thing with 2022, the draft pick were dependant of the team that would draft. If the Coyote were 1rst, they would have drafted Cooley first. But overall the top of 2025 is better than 2022 just because of Sheafer. He is waaaaay better than Nemec. Martone has more skill than Slaf, but Slaf his more physical, Misa vs Wright, he is waay more skill! And for Hagens vs Cooley, i think Cooley is better but they are really close. After Sheafer, the D from 2022 are better than the one of 2025, Hansler is skill but doesnt put the point on the bord, Reid and smith can be compare to Korchinsky. But i like more Nemec and Mintykov over them!

Schaefer and Matone have a chance to seperate themselves from Misa at the WJC. I like Misa over Hagens and Misa, Matthew Schaefer or Matone at #1, Hagens at 4. I still think overall this is a weak class, the first round seems very 1997 or 2012.

the league is getting heavier and chunkier and better defensively in a boring way.. perimeter skill can only get you so far, you need guys like frondell on your team getting into the ice.. if he slips, congratulations to the team getting him in that 8-13 range.

This top 5 is far better than the top 5 of 2022. The top 5 of this class is probably an average group. Seems like the depth is really poor

All I know is Detroit needs to keep losing to get into the draft lottery add an elite LW like Michael Misa or Anton Frondell. LW Roger McQueen could be interesting choice also, but oft injured. Detroit probably will end up drafting 11th overall getting little in immediate impact as usual.

It will be interesting to see how badly Chicago will screw up the draft for themselves. Unless they get the #1 pick and the world tells them who they should take of course. Because if they don't get #1 and the decision of picking is left solely to them they will screw it up.
