Man I wish they still had the Passat... the new Passat looks so good and they have a lot of the nice things that this Tiguan has. Volkswagen is really making some of their newer generation stuff feel really nice and much more premium. Shame automakers don't want to give the sedan a chance anymore.
@kenyattaclay76662 ай бұрын
They do still have a lot of sedans just not in the North American market, specifically America and Canada. Let's face it Americans & Canadians have spoken with their wallets as to what people want and automakers can't make cars that people won't buy, that's how you go out of business.
@krane152 ай бұрын
Its not the carmakers Jeeves. People don't buy sedans. They also don't buy manuals either. At least not enough of them to make it profitable and keep the price down.
@louiszhang30502 ай бұрын
It's not just consumer preferences but American and Canadian regulations that favour larger SUVs and pickups over regular cars. But regardless of regulations, cars are still a significant market. The old Passat was a garbage can. Companies that do sell nice sedans still sell a lot of them. Just look at Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, and even Tesla. People still buy normal cars. Even if they're in the minority, it's still a significant minority. 300,000 Camrys, 200,000 Civics and Corollas, 100,000 Accords, and 60,000 Tesla Model 3s and Sonatas are not insignificant.
@kenyattaclay76662 ай бұрын
@@louiszhang3050 That is COMPLETELY FALSE. There are ZERO regulations that prefer larger SUV's and pickups, NONE. In fact the regulations that are in place such as emissions and fuel efficacy would favor sedans over any SUV or pickup because just based solely on aerodynamics just about every sedan would be more fuel efficient then even a subcompact SUV. Here's the thing you need to understand, what we call a sedan today was only invented post WWII sometime in the mid to late 50's. Up to that point sedans were the size of modern SUVs. For example, the Ford V8 that Bonnie and Clyde were killed in is roughly the same size as the Ford Edge. It basically had height, ground clearance and length the only difference is it wasn't as wide but other than that it's the same. All that's happened over the last 30 years is Americans went back to the size cars that Americans had 100 years ago and the reason is because they are more useful. For example, one of the largest customer bases for subcompact SUVs are older drivers because it's easier to get in and out of them than a sedan. Also, as a kid of the 70's 99% of families either had a land yacht or a station wagon but compact and full size SUVs have replaced those because they can haul around a large family. My grandmother had a Ford LTD so she could haul around her six grandkids, you aren't doing that in a Camry.

As a Touareg owner Volkswagen needs to offer the Flagship to its customers. Bring back the Touareg to people who want to own the best! We bought Mom a 2020 Tiguan R-Line SEL new in 2020. Driving impressions are that it’s sporty and nimble. Upgraded swaybars and Coilovers would completely transform the experience. Before purchasing it Mom had a BMW X3. First impressions compared to the X3 was the overall size inside. Compared to the X3 the Tiguan is a Limousine. Seriously it’s huge! Extremely impressive and comfortable. We have taken the Tiguan on Multiple road trips and it gobbles up the miles and can easily pack all your luggage and gear. The Tiguan would make a great addition to a family of 4 with zero issues. Maintenance has consisted of oil changes, tire rotations. I’m going to replace the cabin filter soon. Regarding the 2025 Tiguan my recommendation is to go and test drive the R-Line SEL and compare it to let’s say a Toyota or Honda. Volkswagen all day everyday 👌❤️🇩🇪
@krane1517 күн бұрын
The did, and it failed miserably. It had an incredible capability, with a huge selection of engine but nobody in North America bought it. When it debuted at $50k, folks said it was just too expensive for a VW. Fast forward a couple of decades, and now look at the price of a Hyundai or Kia. Even the RAV4 hybrid approaches $50k. Even counting for inflation, that's some sticker shock for what was originally an economy car.
@bryanmauroner334717 күн бұрын
@@krane15 I respectfully disagree with your analysis. The Touareg did not fail "Miserably" it sold to buyers who wanted the flagship. Sales of "Flagship" models of any car manufacture will undoubtedly be lower in terms of over all volume. Take for instance the Toyota Flagship "LandCruiser". The LandCrusier overall sales in the United States could be interpreted as sold "Miserably" in terms of volume. Toyota recognized this year after year and finally didn't care and eventually removed the LandCruiser from the North American line-up only to bring it back. What is the take away, the Touareg has a huge following to this day in the North American market, and if buyers want to purchase the flagship Touareg then me as buyer should be able to walk into any Volkswagen dealer and purchase it.
@krane159 күн бұрын
The tried that in the beginning. It failed measurably. Americans simply refused to pay what was then 50k for a VW. What's ironic is today that's nearly the price of a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Of course, that's not adjusted for inflation.

Owned a 2022 Tiguan, loved the look of that one when it came out, probably my favorite model in the mainstream compact SUV segment. New one is even better. Never cared about the capacitive controls on the wheel because they worked well with the haptic feedback and the amount of force required to press them. Just hated they were gloss black. The AC controls were far more annoying because there was no feedback and you have to look down to adjust anything AC related. New one doesn’t seem better in that regard other than being closer to normal driving line of sight. I do wish we’d see more power though. Or an actual R with the Golf R powertrain.

My point was that the Tiguan is probably the most luxurious out of all of them currently unless the RAV4 can top it. I did not say anything else. Exactly! We've been needing the Tiguan R in the US for a while now. It has 320hp and would be amazing! It's on the short wheelbase which we also don't get here. I'd be happy with 250 like many vehicles this size has. Supposedly, we should get a phev version with 62 miles of electric range and up to 272hp. That might be the one to get.

last gen tiguan 0-60 was around 8 seconds. this gen is lighter and has more power so 0-60 should be around low to mid 7 seconds

bro came up with that 9 seconds 0-60 out of nowhere just to hate on the car lol

Yeah because you buy a Tiguan to gap other Karens between stop lights. You want a sports car, get one and stop complaining.
