I'm a retired lady born in 1962, and had the freedom to do whatever I wanted. I chose to have a professional career, and can attest that all the supposed "misogyny" that Leftists still scream about had disappeared by the 1990s. Of course, the racism that Leftists are obsessed with had totally disappeared by the time I was born, leaving nothing but reverse racism - which actually cost me a promotion to a job I had excelled at as "Acting" Director for over 6 months. Eventually the Black Department Head realized my naivete and told me that the job had to go to a Black person. So I resigned on Friday, and by Monday a Black man - who met NONE of the job qualifications and had no experience - was officially awarded the job. He got to add 3 new professional staff members to the small Dept (all Black), yet immediately contracted out all the work we had previously done to a private company. The taxpayer then paid for 7 well-paid (but non-productive) people plus the private business, instead of just 4 hard working professionals who cared about improving the affordable housing situation.

I recently saw an OP Ed from the Guardian saying we should end women's prisons. Not prisons. Just women's prisons. It referenced an excellent collation of data on the routes that lead to female prisoners being incarcerated and outlined how many women's centres were basically non-existent. The writer went out of her way to claim "trans women" aren't an issue and arbitrarily applied the patterns to them while bemoaning the lack of women's spaces. The irony being, of course, that this is precisely because males have been allowed in. So she was proposing an end to women's prisons meaning all female prisoners would go free. And all males who identify as women would go free too. I can see absolutely no flaws in this plan..... A previous article was about how Drag Queens were coming to our rescue. Some of these women live on a completely different planet.

There is nothing wrong with being a "trad wife". I hate that title. But, I am one. @@anialiandr I came to make a similar comment as the OP. I think Heather's Natural Selections piece this week is very good, but where I clash with Heather is that she never, ever gives credit to women who choose to be homemakers. She is rather condescending about it, as if it is less than, not as good as, and I would like to see her just once, acknowledge that a traditional role of wife and mother can be just as satisfying and as raising children full time is just as worthwhile as a career such as hers. It's no mystery about why equal opportunity declined. it's no puzzle about why there are many fewer haves and many more favenots than when Breat and Heather were kids. We sent the good paying jobs that average people could get overseas or just over the border and we spent 5 decades importing foreign labor to come in and out-compete the bottom half of society (on basis of who was willing to lower their wage demands the most) for jobs that absolutely can't be outsourced This is not rocket science. People like Bret and Heather have a hard time pinpointing the problem because they have been at least tacitly supporting this process for their entire lives at least until very recently. I also think part of it was they were privilegeds by their life in Portland. They didn't see the demographic changes. They didn't live next to door to the boomer bricklayer who built his own house and put 3 kids through college while knowing its practically impossible for me as an indigenous American kid in Texas to get a job doing any masonry whatsoever never mind for a decent wage.

As a periodontist (gum specialist), I get asked all the time about oil pulling. I tell them “there aren’t any studies simply because no one is making money from coconut oil, but coconut oil has known beneficial effects and certainly won’t hurt anything. Eating a high quality whole food diet and minimizing processed foods is the most important part of having a healthy mouth.” Gum disease is no doubt caused mostly by poor diet, but I was never taught that fact in dental school or periodontal training, even though they admitted to an association with type 2 diabetes. I never ever hear it discussed at conferences. Just how to do procedures. There’s no money in prevention. It’s a sad fact. Saying that, periodontists are usually good about teaching people how to clean their teeth though. They just don’t talk about diet. In fact one my local predecessors used to tell his patients to go straight from their surgical appointment to a fast food restaurant for a thick chocolate milkshake after surgery. Probably for the cooling effect. My 15 years of clinical experience tells me chocolates/candy and ice cream are probably the most common triggers of periodontal disease. My patients eat blended soups, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs after surgery. Much better healing!

42:00 This discussion is making me draw on "The Fourth Turning" history through Strauss - Howe Generational History Theory. It's correct GenX women and frankly GenX as a whole got exactly what we wanted. Maximum freedom. Blurred Gender rolls. Minimum identity based barriers. That's in keeping with the Nomad achetype coming of age in an unraveling Third Turning. I don't understand why things got so weird with Millenials. Did WE do that? We certainly engrained in them that everything they do is the best thing ever. It was unintentional but not unprecedented. And The Babyboom had a huge say in this madness of course as well. Never make the mistake of thinking history is linear. It's cyclical. Things can in fundamental ways return to clearly defined gender roles, in-groups and out-groups but also combined with the higher levels of wealth equality all commensurate with a late fourth turning into the first turning high. And it can happen with bewildering suddenness.

The internet is the thing that nobody saw coming. I’m a GenX and my teenage years were more similar to my Silent Generation parents than to my Millenial/GenZ children. And not to their benefit

The older I get, the more I suspect all the negative trends we are seeing in the Western world are a result of evolved instinct being a poor fit for modern hyper novelty and that there is no way around an eventual collapse back into circumstances that are a better fit for the creatures we are. Maybe that's all human history will be when viewed on a long enough time table: a series of cycles.

One reason for the one child male bias in China was because in China male children are legally responsible for their elderly parents' financial support. Female children are not. They are culturally bound to support their husband's parents. So if you are only allowed to have one child, you are likely to want one who will support you when get too old to work.

@heather, please check out this book- The Two-Parent Privilege: How Americans Stopped Getting Married and Started Falling Behind When discussing figures like Megan Kelly as examples of women who successfully balance career and motherhood, you're echoing the argument Melissa Kearney makes in her book: that marriages with children have become a privilege that many can no longer afford. Use your platform to advocate for social change. Our society doesn't provide the means for young people to start families, leading them to choose not to have children. This choice is driven by economic factors, not by moral or cultural preferences.

It’s challenging for those who have never struggled to truly grasp the reality of many in our country. The working class often work every holiday to earn time-and-a-half pay. Most of these workers are in unskilled jobs, relying on shift work that offers no steady schedules, real paid vacations, or opportunities for advancement. The conditions they face are a result of policies that prioritize profits over people. There is no healthy way for the marginalized working class to grow a family.
@grannyannie29482 ай бұрын
@@sagemoma It's different in Australia. For example by law if you work full time, or part time, you receive four weeks paid holiday, if you do shift work that's five weeks. Actual unskilled workers are rare outside the student class. A working class person, especially men, earn $60, 000 to $120, 000 a year. Often more than university graduates. Female university graduates view marrying a tradesman as marrying up, for example.

@@sagemoma The problem in my country is that immigration and foreign investors has made the cost of housing so high, and it's hard to start a family without stable housing.

In Australia we had a $7000 baby bonus, we also get paid maternity leave, universities offer free childcare, women with children under the age 8 get around $400 a fortnight from the gov, most workplaces offer free childcare, etc. The list goes on. It is highly encouraged by our government to have children here. Sometimes I do feel they do it for slightly nefarious reasons though and not just to promote the human species. A previous Prime Minister once said, "people need to have at least 3 kids, 1 for the mum, 1 for the dad and 1 for the state". They want workers bees.

One of the things I appreciate about both Bret and Heather is how they make space for religion and the idea of there being a God. The Byzantines were not an empire, because the Byzantines aren't a real thing. They were Eastern Romans, and the "Byzantine" label was simply created by salty Catholics trying to strip the Orthodox Christians of their proud Roman heritage.
