I was also curious about the reason. As the nurse said in the video, many things are tested from the blood drops. Following is what I found online fyi. 😀👍🏻 “Every newborn is tested for a group of health disorders that aren't otherwise found at birth. With a simple blood test, doctors can check for rare genetic, hormone-related, and metabolic conditions that can cause serious health problems.”

Babies that are jaundice may have DAILY “pokes” for blood work. If you’ve ever had your blood tested, donated blood or checked blood sugar, it’s only a prick. Of course the baby will protest loudly, but it’s only momentary. If you watch closely, you’ll see they chilled the baby’s foot for a few seconds to help numb it.

Why not put a shirt or blanket on that baby because when they are born, they are cold and wet not to mentioned "hungry" which they should provide immediately feeding this child.

When my baby was born and I took him to the pediatrician, she immediately stripped his clothes off. She said uncomfortable babies do things. So, I would assume she's shirtless and cold as a baby skills test.

@@reughr -I would not allow my baby to be stripped in a cold place like a pediatric office or room. It is bad enough when babies are born they come out upset because they have been in the warmth of the womb where the warmth of the water keeps the baby warm and feel good. No one should strip a baby like that for their own pleasure instead of thinking of the baby that need the warmth of their clothes and "No doctor ever did that to my children. They kept their clothes on - perhaps in your foreign countries you have less interest to provide comfort to your babies but in the states we think of the needs of "OUR BABIES!"

This baby is only a few days old, so like many newborns, she appears a bit scrawny. She’ll fill out in a couple of weeks. (My friend had twin boys. They were a few weeks early, weighing around 5 lbs each, and both looked like this little one. By 3 months they were so chunky, no one would believe they had been preemies.)
