I try to keep the approach as short as possible so that the same approach can be made over a longer period of time. At the same time, I can handle a wide range of hook angles on the vertical line, which makes it easier to mass produce strikes.

Joey Dineen - a PBA bowler I used to bowl league with - has the same approach as Nate. It was the first time I ever saw it. Coincidentally, he's also a lefty.

I would add one more myth, that a crossover step is needed. Many pros do not have a crossover step.

I think the name is misleading by itself. Many don't literally cross past their other foot, but I can't think of one that doesn't at least go in front of it. Regardless, hip has to get out of the way for an elite swing.
