This story is so weirdly presented: there is supposed to be this TEAM of heroes moving on from great tragedy and solving one last big case, but every event shown involves just ONE hero going into the field and addressing all the problems.

Yeah I thought they were gonna have it where they had Batman technically back but out of action due to the trauma that Talia inflicted and the actual effects brought by being revived in the Lazarus pit. But then they killed him immediately

For me this whole thing was summarized beautifully by someone else. It felt like I was playing “Gotham Knight”. Not “Gotham Knight(s)”.

Honestly it feels like the endings were slapped on because of the "This was meant to be DC's Avengers" thing. The Court's still around so there can be some storyline force keeping you around post game as they drip feed all the post release content like new characters, purchasable cosmetics and story beats. It's probably why there's only three side missions, there were going to be more after that game launched. However when the game got delayed and seemingly pivoted into not being that and on top appears to have been dumped out just to be out meaning no real continued support, everything that was on the drawing board either had to be cut and a more "definitive" ending had to be added. Like if the game was really meant to continue each character being individual would work because you'd then keep exploring them, but instead this is it and this is what is meant to be a single player open world action game with an engaging story cobbled together from a game that wasn't that.

This hit the nail on the head. They introduce a new voice of the court, make sure to add him to the evidence board, state Talia is still out there, and show Harley Quinn escaping the cop car and then emailing you’ll “see you soon” only for none of these to ever be followed up on. It’s so clear they had plans for future long term campaigns that they had to ditch after deciding against the GaaS model.

I also treated the game like an actual movie or story. See most people just pick someone they feel like playing as, but I pick the one that makes sense. I had Barbara go into Blackgate cause sneaking missions aren't really Jason's thing. But I still let Jason deal with the rest of Harley's story cause it's way more personal for him. So it just makes sense. Discovering the court of owls with Nightwing makes the most sense cause in the comic, he was targeted by the court to be a talon as a kid. I beat freeze the 1st time with Barbara and the second with Dick. I gave Clay Face to Tim. I let them all have a spotlight. But what sense does it make the finish the story with Tim or Barbara?

For me I have barb to meet the penguin who isn’t impressed or scared by her. And later I picked Jason because he’s more gritty than bat girl and the penguin has more respect towards. Tim for Harley Quinn because Tim needs more time as Robin (also I’m made him look like Red Robin as way to show him becoming he’s own hero) because I usually use night-wing or Red hood. For the maze I picked Jason because feels like doing it and dick allowed him too. But when Jason returns he feels guilty allowing Jason to go through that. To add on Dick feeling like he’s not good at leading the family. And I made Jason go after freeze because of Jason’s humanity.

People only bought this game for 3 reasons. 1. They thought it looked cool and kept an open mind. 2. They're a fan of the Arkham games and wanted more. 3. They're fans of the characters in-game because of the comics and animated content they grew up with and just wanted to play as them.

I feel the traversals would have just been better if they didn't try so hard to make them different. Robin has a cape just like batgirl and in a lot of comics nightwing has a wing suit so they should have just gave those characters the ability to glide too and then have the bat cycle specific to red hood. They could even still incorporate the whole justice league satellite thing by making that the fast travel system instead of the weird wing jetpack thing.

Honestly in my run I just used Redhood for the story and side-missions so the monolog makes more sense because he has been the only one to protect the city and is now it's main protector, but they should have had an ending where if you used all characters equally then they ALL monolog and make the remark where THEY will protect Gotham

I always thought the game was supposed to end with at least one of three characters becoming the protector of Gotham (Nightwing has his own city). I do agree that it's weird that everyone else just disappears without stating that this character will be considered the main protector and the others can still help.

Agreed, and to be frank Jason's probably the best fit to be Gotham's new protector. He's got the intimidation factor down, rivals Nightwing for the title of best member of the Bat-Family (besides Bruce), and the game seems to fit him the most due to the whole 'Talia/lazarus pit' thing.

Honestly my biggest complaint is the lack character diversity. We see characters we have already seen in this game before. One of the ideas that my friends and I came up with that couldve helped with this was the inclusion of Damien as a playable character, this way we have the cast of, Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, and Batgirl. He have the "full" bat family trying to work together to fill the void of losing their patriarch in gotham. It also would allow for some interesting use for Tim post robin that we see almost no where anymore, and we finally have a game where we can play as Damien who we have never had the chance to do that with before.

Didn't Under the Red Hood also end with a flashback? Not to say this game is on the same level as that, it obviously isn't, but I don't think ending on a flashback is a negative, tbh. That said, I appreciate this video. I LOVE this game a lot, but there were obvious flaws with it and you laid them out pretty well here.

You're right, good call out on that one. I will say though, that flashback is very much connected to the plot and the arc both Bruce and Jason go on. Seeing Jason as Robin for the very first time and how happy he was vs the grim reality they're faced with in the present. Plus there are flashbacks littered throughout the story as well showing Jason's progression as Robin. I just don't think Gotham Knights' ending flashback really does anything other than show us a lil cute snippet of their lives as a family which would've worked a lot better if it was at least interspliced throughout the game more

@@GameDenColor I agree! Just the point is that a flashback as an ending can be good, if it's done well, and it was... okay here, but as you said it'd be better if it were in the game itself. I just wish the game did more about the whole swapping between characters. I did my first playthrough with Batgirl visiting Harley in Blackgate, and when I did my 2nd one, I was super excited to see if they'd mention anything about her and Joker when I went to visit as Red Hood, only to find the dialogue was *almost* entirely the same, at least from Harley's angle. And the fact the game doesn't remember which character you played as when, treating it as if the character you're playing now is the same character that did everything in the story up to then.

Everyone should've had a cap glide or a wing suit, grapple and the bike. Combat should've been more fluid and have at least 8 side missions. I love the story and the variety of enemy types the dialog is great and every character brings something to the table its not as bad as people make it out to be everyone just wants it to be an arkham game

i actually liked the side missions. they were challenging. the only thing i didnt like about the game was that you could go through the entire game using one character. i think it would of been better if you had to use certain characters for certain missions

Its still an rpg game. Meaning if you leveled up batgirl but wanted to do side missions that required nightwing. You would have to now grind out or risk being vastly under leveled just to complete a side mission. I honestly think they need about 3-4 side missions a piece. That way the level up would be more gradual post end game. Than being forced to grind 4 characters to mid-max jus to complete a side mission which does nothing more than unlock its showdown variant which would/could/should be played by which ever character you’re the best with

A re write of A Matter Of Family where Jason takes the place of Tim. It makes no sense narratively why Tim is Robin, it messes up the time line. It could have even ended with the capture of Jason

Another problem I have is that this game did basically nothing new or interesting with the villains. The Court of Owls was new, Clayface we hadn't seen much before in the Arkham games, but that's it. Mr. Freeze, Harley, Man Bat, League of Assassins, Penguin. They were all just doing stuff we've seen them do before in the Arkham games. Why not give us new characters like the Ventriloquist, or the Royal Flush Gang. Just anything so I'm not constantly reminded of a better game instead

I'm happy I only paid $20 for this game. So far I've unlocked a few fly points with Lucius Fox. But the game hasn't sucked me in. The side missions seem grindy and don't forward the story.

I love how the ending is character specific. It makes the replay value so compelling. I’ve relayed this game now 8 times and I’ve had a different experience because I’ve changed up who did what every time. And i feel the reason they’re “alone” in the belfry is because the writers truly wanted the characters to be individuals. I feel every character has that “alone” moment, we just see the one we’re playing as. Then if you want to see another point of view play that character. This definitely wasn’t a game designed to be experienced once. Or just one way. My experience can be completely different from my friends. And that’s awesome . In my opinion at least. Also we do get all the things you’re requesting for the last scene. We just don’t get it in the last scene. We get it piece by piece in the character specific cinematics. Each character has their growth moment in those.

I can’t believe you didn’t mention the worst part about this game..which is their take on redhood..not only did they make him look ridiculous with the Freddy Kruger skin on his face and the silver stran in his hair but then they had the AUDACITY to make him a tank🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️. This game was so close to being great - but I agree with all your points. I know it’s hollow but if we got a sequel, it’d be so easy to be improved. Keep the customization, abilities, individual combat styles. Increase finishers per character (so many are based on environment). Add villains (like 5-10 more to have Gotham feel lived in, big and small). Add CPU team missions (like Spider-Man + Spider-Man 2). Add story scenes to every collectible finale (like meeting the relative who hid the Historia but for future collectibles). Flesh out mission (and story) pacing - i.e. chapter 1 had 4 missions and then every other main story Chapter had 2; and be unafraid to be a “long game”.

They couldve fixed traversal by calling this game Batgirl and Robin. Nightwing's in Bloodhaven and Jason's missing. Both characters have capes both can glide and both can use grappling hooks. Having 4 characters adds nothing to this game. But by focussing on 2 characters they couldve placed in unique interactions, side missions and mechanics throughout having the game feel different enough between each playthrough. Similar to dishonoured 2 If done right people would be begging for a Nightwing, Redhood game and that could be done in similar ways but with a stronger focus on making the bikes feel cool. putting rockets in their shoes and riding bikes up walls ghostrider style.

For me was a waste to not include azrael and some Bat family members agreeing with him like batman and others don't, and adding side missions for him and depending how you did those he could be a new batman, we have seen azrael in other games, but not his batman phase, and it would be very interesting to see azrael batman and the bat family, even if it's working with him or fighting him

Started playing this game. Didn’t like it, can’t be bothered to continue. I watched this all the way through and I’m rather glad I didn’t waste anymore time with it. I’m a diehard Batman fan and I can count at least 5 times off the top of my head that Batman has supposedly died and every time he rose from the ashes stronger than ever because he was too skilled to actually allow his own death and too big and important for this to actually happen. There are 2 times I know of where Bruce Wayne has actually been killed and they both happened in this game. It’s one thing to kill Bruce Wayne twice to serve a story but it’s straight up disrespectful to do it for a story that isn’t even that compelling and wastes him as a character. At least I got a snazzy Bat Family statue out of this so it wasn’t a total waste of money.

Speaking of traversal, when Batman died, did he take the Batmobile, Batwing, Batcopter and Batboat with him to the grave and only leave these scraps of technology for his family? lol The teleport kind of makes sense but the bouncing on air just because he was in the Lazarus pit is not only stupid but it breaks canon from every single medium since the pit was first introduced. I haven't played Gotham Knights yet but my biggest problem just from watching videos is that the graphics are pretty bland in the city and the population of the city is less than Arkham Asylums inmates in the first game that came out years ago smh. With todays technology there is no excuse for this, just look at Spider-Man on ps4. Youre telling me they couodnt populate Gotham like that even with the graphics of the city looking last gen? He'll, even Arkham City and Origins had more detail and a better overall map layout. All that aside though, I will still get this game but only when it eventually goes on sale for like 10 bucks or less, and it will considering the reviews and sales.

Biggest problem is Batman's not the protagonist. I don't care about the Bat-family. Then there's everything else, the clunky gameplay and animations, 30 FPS, live service feel, ugly ass graphics

The graphics are hideous Arkham knight has the greatest multiplat graphics of all time especially the PlayStation version. This game combat is a joke compared to Batman Arkham knight.

My problem is these devs come out with these games every month which are getting expensive btw all for them to not live up to the hype…. Or even have a real online presence…. I never buy games when they first drop… most likely the game is gonna have terrible reviews or even if the game is actually good it would be way better when the price is cheaper

Gotham knights to me is a complete FLOP, the story and ending were terrible and some of the voice acting (or direction) was absolutely horrid, plus the fact they make this batman really awesome and you can't even play as him, honestly a BETTER ending to the game would be that batman comes back, robin stays with him but as a new hero to make sure the lazarus effects have fully worn off before leaving to be his own hero, each hero leaves gotham for a new city to protect as a now fully fledged hero so they can save more people while batman stays to protect gotham, end game you can finish missions you forgot or do random crimes as BATMAN and then begin to upgrade him, DLC could be a new story FOR BATMAN where the heroes need to come back and help him defeat something (maybe joker since he doesn't seem to be dead in this world) a sequel game will have you choose one of the now 5 heroes and be in THEIR city with their own story that happens to connect to the other heroe's stories toward the middle or end

As a huge Batman fan trust me when I tell you that this game is trash. Looking at the talons tells you know everything you need to know. Just in case you didn't know they are definitely not supposed to be owl creatures.

Yeah I really don't like their Talon interpretation. Makes them so much more lame. The game would've been much better if they were legit built up mini-bosses with unique characterizations.
