Admittedly, this podcast caused me anxiety as I feel as a veteran reseller, I waited too long to take it seriously. I still have alot of credit card debt to pay off. Right after watching, I went straight to my honey hole and found some bangers, working on them now to list TODAY. As you said, tomorrows not promised!

A storage unit buyer in my area has it figured out. He has a brick and mortar thrift where he rents out booths and has his own website that he does auctions on in the back of the store. No shipping and the average auction has over 500 items on it.

The "no fees" for business (used clothes) in UK only lasted for 2 months. We are back on to full fees but ebay UK has been swamped by free listings at very low prices. Not sure if business resellers will manage to survive. Also the EU introduced a new GPSR (General Product Safety Rules) which have to be added to every listing to sell to EU or even Northern Ireland which is in the UK. Ironically, if you're a Northern Ireland seller you can't sell to Northern Ireland. GPSR is practically impossible to adhere to unless your a large business selling 1000s of the same item. Heart breaking to have taken a major step backward with no guarantee that we can overcome these obstacles.

ATTN***Big Fan here, thanks for your KZbin tips/bolo's/etc. I'm just at the beginning of this video & felt compelled to write @ your comments so far. I'm in central Florida just west of Orlando. AGREE 💯, with your insight on "the place we are at in this moment" & keeping to reality & facts. I'm not trying to write a novel, but to a couple of your first points. 1st. Yes, big box thrifts are trying to pick all the best things & upping prices or selling themselves out of store. I don't think they'll ever be as knowledgeable about all the things as dedicated resellers/flippers. (As long as we continue to grow our own knowledge). The smaller, organization & church ran thrifts (THERE ARE MANY IN LAKE COUNTY FL!) will ever do that. My MAIN sourcing, well, source, is Yard sales, then Flea markets, then thrift stores. I get the best deals and find the best items at yard, estate sales. I met an older couple that lives in our 55+ community that do estate sales. I've built a relationship with them and they now work with me on items I find, and here, estate sales can only be a single day, so they're very reasonable anyway. Ive only recently found your channel and I immediately felt a connection with you from your attitude and sales style. Coming from a former TV Ad sales background, it's all about the business. However, networking & connections can MAKE OR BREAK success. I don't know if you'll even find time to read my message, I'm also a semi successful KZbinr (different niche, but building a new channel dedicated to reselling now) but I have always been the "Consummate Entrepreneur", looking for opportunities and HERE'S THE ACTUAL POINT OF THE MESSAGE - my almost 1 year in reselling has been pretty good but nowhere near the scale I want to be at. I've still got a lot to learn. I've been looking for the reseller and KZbinr that will match most closely my overall outlook, and style. That is YOU! I'm interested in a "mentor" who is willing to spend 30 minutes with me ( just long enough to see ME, quickly pick up on my style and who I am) in order to offer the best way forward to meet & exceed my personal goals. I understand the VALUE of that! I can't (yet) afford to invest much, but my persistence, persuasion, sales successes and good eye for a deal have me convinced that I will get to my, ever-changing goal, the question is, how long will it take to get there! I'm READY to move forward from this stage and I want you to be my person ❤️. I am a good bet. I just need that PUSH in the right direction. I'm either going to kill it, or effin stay stuck in the muck of average and THAT IS NOT WHO I AM! I know you get paid for your valuable time and experience as the #1 reseller of W & M clothing. I understand that I'm stepping wayyy over the line of the normal way that you do things. I will do whatever it takes to make my goals happen but as you said yourself, having like-minded, successful people in your "Rolodex" is PARAMOUNT to positive outcomes. I will do whatever I can do to help you in return, whatever that looks like. There are some great extravaganzas coming up in Mt. Dora Florida at Renninger's Market soon (we just had one last weekend - great finds too!) I'd like to discuss a possible meet up at the market. I'm sure you've been there before since you're not that far away. I will commit to following you and your program, I just ask for a few minutes of your time. You, my friend are the key to my future success. I know it, I feel it and I'm going for it with all of the stones I can muster. I know there's a mutually prosperous opportunity here, the door is cracked, I hope that you will open it up and let me in! Feel free to check my channel (s) and eBay account. I KNOW QUALITY AND WHAT I NEED TO BE THE BEST AND THAT IS YOU!

Imagine being a thrift owner and you turn to social media only to find millions of users bragging about how you undervalued a $300 coach bag or how dumb you are for selling a 14 kt gold ring for a dollar or a vintage rap tee worth 1,500 for only 4.99. Not just that but these people are making money off the social media content and making money from the undervalued merchandise. Imagine the potential profit these thrift stores feel they are missing out on. So it makes sense why they are jumping in the game. Good for them but not so good for resellers. If I was a major thrift store I would reach out to these influencers or find a way to keep resellers on my side. It goes both ways resellers thrive off thrift stores and thrift stores thrive off resellers.

The market is undefeated.They know they are leaving meat on the bone because they know they can't store stuff forever. Their job is to sell for the most money, if they price too high, nobody will buy it. People are still buying so good for them for getting more money

Never ever seen a resell store (used to be called thrift) sell a 14k ring for a dollar. They use magnifiers and Google lens like the rest of us. Most of them are selling at retail prices now, sometimes even higher. They've gone off their rocker.

I'm cautiously optimistic! I believe that there is going to be a positive impact for many self-employed, side hustlers and entrepreneurs made available to us via tax credits or other policy changes in the near future. Who knows for sure? Not me, but I am confident that no matter what, these companies don't want to lose money and know where their bread is buttered. Those who are in leadership roles are also on guard (for good or not) to make sure they minimize losses. Yes, I'm still a "spring chicken" in my reselling journey but our resolve to blaze new trails and create new streams of revenue will never subside! Happy Sunday!

Also keep in mind many resellers are throwing down a couple hundred each sourcing trip compared to the average shopper spending anywhere from 4.99 to 40 bucks. Goodwill wrote in a statement they welcome all types of shoppers from resellers to collectors to those on a budget or just looking for that unique rare vintage jacket. Unlike some thrift stores that have a level of animosity against resellers which I understand but resellers also make up the majority of sales. Though resellers may find a bolo they are picking up smaller flips along the way and maybe an item or 2 for themselves. A reseller is a consumer too.

Veteran EBay Seller here. Everything you state is 100% correct but in my area it actually started at least 10 years ago. There is no such thing anymore as a "Thrift Store" , they are full on retail stores. Trust me been going to Thrift since the 1980's , prices are now insane here. Everyone is constantly complaining especially those with long memories. Salvation Army , Goodwill , Savers , Value Village are the new everyday retail chains. Back in the day it was a lower social economic people that shopped these places. Now its waaaaay past trendy for hipsters. It's just regular retail. Used clothes ? Not rare to see 75% of Ebay Prices. They are going for broke and they are winning. So yes this game is changing at hardcore light speed with all the new tools. Just one more thing , I can remember 20 years ago seeing people bragging to the Thrift store Employees about their conquests and how much they made on certain items and I was thinking , Oh Boy here we go ...............
@jog8646
@jog8646 9 күн бұрын
I think the retail thrift stores are taking advantage of young people who are ignorant of the high prices. It makes me mad that these stores cliamto to be helping the less fortunate when they are really giving handouts and scorn those of us who work to make our own way. It just seems hypocritical. Rant over. On the bright side, I do find the thrift stores supporting individual charities like Fight Cancer, MS, and church affiliated to have better stuff donated to them and are better priced. Ifind myself spending much more with these thrifts, always coming out with about 6-10 pieces, compared to one or none from the the majors. Next step, build relationship withese smaller thrifts for better quality inventory. Speaking from AU.

Your forgetting the second part. INAD. The amount of inaccurate things that are out there that the buyer especially international buyers can get for "Free" is surprising. A 6.5" plate may measure 6.25" thats a INAD. A 97 shirt may actually be a 96 INAD. Is that really a White hat or more Ivory. INAD. When these programs hit its going to be alot of buyers getting free items and sellers paying for "free shipping to get the item back or just giving it to the buyer. The profit may out weigh the losses. Or not. Best to be very careful with those specifics.

I can see some of your points, but if these companies so powerful, why not go after counterfeiters directly themselves? That's my question. They (the Nike's, the Coach's...should be lobbying for stiffer laws, and using that "might" to go after the counterfeiters. Yes they are starting to sell their own pre-used items - look at Patagonia...and I applaud that. I am not afraid of that competition. Heck, If I need to, I'll start upcycling used items. I have a sewing machine. I can dye, tye dye, add embroidery or sequins, etc. It's much easier now to just re-sell but I applaud those that do the actual upcycling work. It's also going to be harder to go after someone selling vintage items as well....I sell about 20% vintage. Ok Well just another reason we should have a reseller group...a group that is not to learn new things BUT to band together like a union against laws, taxes, platforms who do us wrong :-).
@technsports
@technsports 6 күн бұрын
They've tried but the counterfeiters are often in other countries outside the law of the USA and once they snag one they pop open another. It's a cat and mouse game

There is wayyyyyy too much product coming in for any one company to process. Let alone sifting and inspecting quality specimens from garbage. Many resellers take a gamble on some purchases- Goodwill always makes out on resell buyers/hoarders and they STILL throw out or ship out TONS of product. They will continue to cherry-pick the easiest placed product but need resellers to move product as well. AI can not pick and list items...people do...unless they make robot shoppers!

22+ years deep eBay seller here. Their customer service has gotten worse and worse since 2020. It's so much harder to get to a US based agent vs someone at a call center in the Philippines that just regurgitates company policy from their guide. They claim to protect sellers yet allow buyers to say lies in the form of negative feedback. The appeals process is also a joke. They email you an essay that just patronizes you and is also copy and pasted company lines. They think they appease you by saying "don't worry, this feedback won't affect your seller metrics". Sellers will have to sell through their own site eventually.

eBay needs to honor the first sale doctrine if their going to do business in the US. Now is good a time as any to send in complaints to our government over these blatant violations. This administration might actually take it seriously

I wonder what will happen from the customer point of view. Will there be more INADs from poor AI listings and customers refusing to buy from stores that use AI listings? Will they reach out and ask or will they relay on reviews to determine stores that use it. I think this will happen at least in the short term before the AI gets good enough to not cause INADs… it will be interesting. I can see it being helpful for listing but still need to review for accuracy is my thought.

Do you think people will stop donating there clothes to Goodwill if they stop putting there items in the store for the community and go the route of massive AI listing. Just curious what you think Tech.

I know a lot of my friends will no longer donate to charity. In fact, I was a volunteer at a large charity in Australia for work experience a few decades ago when I was at school. The staff would swipe the good designer items for themselves. After seeing that, I don't donate either.

I had a puma item removed and then received an apology that it was a mistake and the item had been relisted. Nevertheless, I think what you're saying makes sense- companies have zero to gain from allowing people to resell their products... not to mention the removal of one's right to ownership over posessions would align with the World Economic Forum's plan for people to "own nothing and be happy". Though, it would be interesting if people were to boycott tyrannical brands; as you allude to... precedent is a powerful gateway. As always, thank you for sharing!

@@technsportsthat’s a crazy shift that’s happening…all the companies taking back their items and the possibility of EBay nearly closing its doors. Gotta figure out how to stay ahead of the changes, because there will always be changes… And interesting about the idea of warehouses replacing brick and mortars. I see it already with local stores here whose shelves are becoming more and more empty..
