Thanks Randy...this confirms my observation from past experience, that in cold water I like fishing areas that are sheltered from the wind, whereas in warm water windblown banks usually seem to be better. Great stuff as always--love the cerebral approach to fishing in contrast to so many other channels!

A friend and myself fished a lake back in late winter/early spring in a strong north wind with 35 mph gusts and we tried many spots and the best area was up against wind blown rocks or riprap. One would think they wouldn’t be their because of crashing waves etc but they were up against those rocks awaiting bait fish and possibly warmer water from the rocks.

@@mp5kfisher241 in the winter fish are on rocks no matter what the conditions are, there is too much warmth and food for them to care about the wind.

Have watched this video multiple times and I can't disagree with anything Randy said here. I'm a muskie fisherman and have been for about 15 years or so. I feel like both bass and musky are predators and use wind to their advantage. Some of my best action days muskie fishing we're on Windy days. In warmer water situations, I feel useless on a day with little or no wind. I honestly believe both bass and muskie fishermen can learn things from each other because the fishing is not all that different from each other, just bigger baits with muskies. Very good video Randy.

Hi Randy, great information as always. Here n Oklahoma, we are blessed with BOTH wind and red silty water in many lakes. Personally, I have found success with what might normally be considered as nighttime baits such as; big black skirted spinnerbaits with a big Colorado blade, buzzbaits, and my homemade red & black rubber skirt jigs. Would be interested in learning your technique for low visibility with 15 or 20 mph wind.

This is spot on Randy! As you said this type of info is far more important than any specific lure stuff. I think it is also useful to think about wind in terms how it can push bait from deep channels up onto adjacent flats. This is super important for finding an aggressive afternoon bite on days when the wind picks up around mid day. Another deal is to consider places that were pounded heavily by wind on the previous day or two, which will keep fishing pressure off of a good spot until early the next day. I usually let the wind conditions guide me as to fish either on the main lake or back in a creek, always looking for the "goldilocks" amount of wind for the water conditions that you identified. Too many angler have their mind made up where they are going to fish without consideration for wind effects.

I just had a banner day bass fishing once I recognized the winds affect on an area. The fish were located there because of the wind, positioned by the wind and the spot continued to reload due to wind. Great stuff Randy!

Great info. Wind is my friend. Curious about flow through highland reservoirs like Table Rock. High waters in the system require flood gates to be opened from beaver to Bull Shoals. Does this increased flow affect bass positioning and if so how? Thanks, hope you will address this.

Good stuff. I cast either with the wind at my back or, with the wind blowing directly at me. I have to find those areas of the bank to fish. A lot of my techniques are finesse or light tackle and, the bow in the line created by winds from left to right or vice versa make it impossible for me to fish those techniques.

No shortage of wind in Texas thus far this spring. Even by Texas standards. It’s been fairly howling virtually everyday. Supposed to die down some this weekend but temperatures forecast to be 106 Saturday and cooling off to 103 Sunday. I’ve only lived here for 62yrs, but don’t recall such persistent winds and temperatures this severe this early.

Always great info. Been trying to learn more and have more patience when fishing in windy conditions. Not a big fan when it keeps moving boat all around and pushing me where i don't want to go. More to pay attention to i guess. But using it to an advantage for fishing is new to me. really enjoy listening every week to your experience. On a side note i really like it when you get outside and was hoping that one day you would start to do some on the water videos putting some of the techniques on the boat. One older go pro would do the trick. Sure Jonny would help with a simple set up and boy would it be helpful and really help the channel grow i bet. You always are explaining angles and spots. It would be great to see you show us on the water. Keep up the great work! Ed

WIND, now that's a love hate relationship. Last weekend we had 24 - 36 mph winds. We still went out, had to test the lower unit. Such wind limits ones options but it was still doable, as it oxygenates the water and when I can I'll use it to drift points & bank lines. It does greatly increase the work load and yet it gives me an idea where the fish are. Just stay out of the white caps in a bass boat. That's not a pretty pitcher.
