Thanks for the tips Eric! I was a Mandarin linguist in Air Force days in Taiwan. You're right, use it or lose it....

I am excited for this. I am a member of your online community and struggle to progress. I look forward to starting back at the beginning with you and seeing what can be done.

Erich, your encouragement has helped me a lot, thanks. I am slowly progressing, I had in person lessons for a while, but I developed wrist soreness because I practiced too much and had poor technique, I learned to practice in shorter sessions several times a day. My age (70) is part of the problem, so is having slightly short, stubby fingers (like Marty Schwartz), so I have to learn how to slightly modify my technique for each obstacle. The open A chord is the first example, I change how I place my fingers, tailoring it for the particular chord changes. Learning technique as needed for each new song, along with new chord shapes.

Beautiful! Love that, Lee. Keep going my friend. If you’re, “why” is big enough, you have a plan and you execute that plan, there’s nothing keeping you from any of your goals. This is the way.

I’ve always loved the sound of an acoustic guitar and dreamed of learning to play one day. I’m almost 50 & going through a nasty divorce. I needed an outlet for this abundance of anxious moments when I just don’t know what to do with myself. I bought my first guitar today (Fender F-240A) and you already taught me proper finger tip placement…sharpie dots totally helped me see it! Thank you!

Here I am, to pick it up AGAIN. I make progress, then put the guitar down for 3 months, 6 months, a year. Only to pick it up AGAIN, and start the process over with sore fingers again. What's the secret? My brothers play, and when we're together I feel left out. Maybe this time?!

Just play everyday even if it’s only for 15 mins. I am relearning the guitar after long term Covid. Extremely.. frustrating so I get when you say starting over and sore fingers. YOU GOT THIS !!!!! Thank God for Yourguitarsage Erich is a phenomenal Guitar Teacher. Baby steps. 🙏❤️🙏🎵🩷.

But surely some players are naturally gifted like E V H?
@BC-ui9yt5 ай бұрын
There is some level of "natural talent" which comes from exposure to music from birth, or even the genes of your parent (Papa VH was a professional musician). However, a phenomenal guitar player I know said he occasionally gets "I wish I had your natural talent", and his reply is "spend 11 hours a day sitting there practicing scales, and you will be".

I also heard an interview with Alex, where he said he'd be heading out on Friday night with his friends, and would invite Ed along. He would just be sitting in his room playing his guitar, and when Alex would get home several hours later, he'd still be there, still with his guitar in his hand.
