It was not the Irish clans who hunted he wolves to extinction it was Oliver Cromwell. By hunting the wolf to extinction it was removing a very sacred animal from the people. Mac an Tír is how you say Wolf as Gaelige, it also means "Son of the land"

@@BlackDragonTavern I have to say you've gained a faithful subscriber today - I've been a practicing pagan for over 25 years. My family is from Athea, but are now mostly (American) recovering Catholics. I focus predominantly on the Celtic/Gaelic pantheons but the perspective your clan lore puts on things is something I find fascinating, and that resonates with my understanding of the ould Gods and the good people.

Well I really do appreciate that. I am glad you have found yourself at home in the Tavern! I find that our traditions tend to be a little more grounded and down to Earth than the extremes that are normally discussed, and they are more focused on the people and traditions as opposed to the doctrines and gods.

From what I've been able to scrounge up on Crom Cruach, he's a death/solar/harvest deity. He used to have his own day of worship (either last Sunday in July or the first Sunday of August), but I'm not 100% sure if that's accurate/still done today.

Very interesting. Thanks! Would be great if you could list some sources or stories, so that I could research more. So much of the myths seem..........cross contaminated.....for lack of a better term. The internet replaces original sources with wishful thinking and it get harder and harder to find good sources.
@BlackDragonTavern
@BlackDragonTavern 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of what I talk about is handed down through our Clan. If there are good sources for the stories I usually post them. Unfortunately, the contamination issue is rampant, and I would much rather just tell our handed down tails with that disclaimer than send people to bad or misleading sources.
@BlackDragonTavern
@BlackDragonTavern 2 жыл бұрын
However, if there is something specific you're curious about I can always recommend sources that I find to be close and include any caveats for what I don't trust or agree with. Or if you have a source you're curious about you can always email me to ask for that same information

@@BlackDragonTavern Thank you for sharing your family stories with us. What a wonderful gift. Family, handed down stories are often more accurate and more detailed than anything you find today, especially on the internet. My family immigrated from Ireland, Scotland and Wales *many* generations ago, but they love of stories is still in our dna. Most of my family's stories are from Appalachia instead of our ancestral home countries, but I've always been drawn to Celtic legend and myth. Lately I've been trying to find more info on Cealliach, Crom, and Morrigan, though in the past I've dug into others as well. They seem to be much older than most of the stories you hear these days. You see hints of where they seem to have had older or alternative aspects that were consolidated. For example, Cealliach is strongly associated with certain places, weather, cycles, etc and seems to have began as extremely powerful. From the stories I've seen, it looks like she got gradually downgraded and described as a "hag" or "witch" as Christianity grew in power. I think she lost a lot over the years as older women became less valued. And with An Morrigan, I see signs that she once had much more associated with her than magic and war. I think she might have started out as a mother goddess. I've seen a couple of sources that likened Crom to a dragon, though I can't vouch for the accuracy of the translations. Any pointers/comments would be greatly appreciated. I subscribed and I look forward to watching your videos.

7:13 Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

The two versions of Crom we record are a great dragon and a great chieftain, there was definitely a push in the rise of Catholic influence to monsterify or belittle the various gods of Ireland

Amazing videos and great story telling my friend. I have a question about a comparison of beings. Terence McKenna a notable psychonaut ranted and raved about the "DMT Elves". I've encountered these being on more than a dozen trios into the spirit world. They have striking similarities to that of Irish lore and I wonder if you have any thoughts on the subject. While they can be friendly at times my opinion is these creatures are more evil than divine. They trick people and attach themselves to you causing you misfortune in your life in ways that would seem irrelevant.
