I personally like the BV30H the most since I like that grindy top end, but the BV25M is also great. Both would be good blended I think.

Absolutely. The lead tone on the BV30H cut through better. But the BV25M had the chuggy low mids. Blending the 2 would sound quite full.

Good call. Blending them would be awesome. Maybe even layer all 3. But if left with one choice the M is the one

ALL were an improvement! The 30H had the best clarity overall. Clean sounds SHOULD have been considered as well, as not all speakers to both types of signals well! (UNLESS they're LORANTZ speakers of course! )

This is why I love this channel. I know a LOT of (mostly useless) information about guitars, but up until about a year ago, the only thing I knew about amps was how to turn them on.

Mojotone makes amazing speakers. Love the greyhounds and the British vintage series. The Bv-25ms rival my amazing vintage celestions. The greyhounds sound incredible with just about every high gain amp I’ve recorded through them

@bulletproofzest

@@Gainovermg yeah the greyhounds cover some of the ground that V30s do, but they actually work for cleans, and don’t have that spikey upper midrange. It’s like all the stuff I like in a V30 without the drawbacks. My bandmate has an invective and we couldn’t believe how great 2 greyhounds and 2 creamback M75s sound together with that amp.

So awesome. I have a Marshall 4 x 12. It has the evh, bv 25m, swamp thing and stock celestial speaker in it (waiting on a Hesu demon) That one cab, coupled with a multitude of mics and I’m overwhelmed with tone choices. It’s a lot of fun. Johan and Glenn. Both are my “go to” for speaker stuff. 🤘🤘

I started watching this video in my car as I was waiting for some heavy weather to pass so I could drive on, and the difference between the original speakers and the upgrades is clear even on a phone speaker. When watching the video again through some decent monitors, it is even more incredible. My fav is the BV30H, that speaker sounds fantastic!

Excellent advice when you said the Sheffield speaker sucked. I tried to like it back in the day and wanted to like it but quickly found out it was inferior to fane, celestion, and eminence models. THE SPEAKER IS THE FILTER. YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD AND PUT THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN. You've single handedly made us guitar players everywhere {that have 30+ years of experience} happy. And hopefully some young-uns too. You deserve more business sir.!!

Glen, after watching your first video on this amp I decided it was time to leave behind the solid state Marshall I've been playing since high school and get a big boy amp. On your advice I bought one of these for $400. The sound was disappointing at first, which I knew might be the case ahead of time knowing what you had said about the speaker and what I had read about the speaker on forums. The original speaker is not even a real Sheffield, as Sheffields are made in the USA, and this is made somewhere in China. After changing out what I assume were the original preamp tubes (V1 and V5 were toast) things definitely improved. And most importantly, I got a new speaker made at the factory in Eminence, KY, about an hour from my house. Now, it sounds like a real amp! Fronting it with a tube screamer clone really helped too. I found the original speaker to be muffled and ice picky. If you like a cheap knock off of a green back with scooped mids (on an amp known for its mids) really fizzy highs, and farty lows, the original speaker may be fine for you. As for me, my 6505+ proudly wears an "Eminence inside" badge! Lots of people have replaced the speakers in these with a V30, or with an Eminence Governor or Swamp Thang. I didn't do any of those, because I didn't want to sound like everybody else! But what I did put in there sounds good. You haven't mentioned this in either of your two videos on this amp, but I think it is important for people to know there is a bit of an issue with the FX loop. It is not transparent. Many people complain about it, but some people like it better. However, this can be fixed very cheaply if you are any good at soldering and know what parts of the amp to stay away from so you don't get shocked and die. As a side note, because a certain angry, long-haired Canadian would have told me to, I did an A/B test. I'm glad I did too, because at first I couldn't tell much difference between the speakers, but listening back to back shows they are quite different. Let me know if you want the files Glen, and I'll send them to you. Thanks! Loving the new amp!

Maybe it’s because i grew up playing thru em but I like my G12T-75s . I know it’s not the industry preferred driver but I know how it responds and I like it’s or I’m used to it’s flavor. My current drivers are in a Sunn 412 that toured as a bass cab for years before I got it.
@riangarianga
@riangarianga Жыл бұрын
The G12T-75 is a good speaker, the bad reputation comes mainly from people not knowing how to use them. Like every other Celestion speaker, its sound shifted in different eras, probably due to production choices. I love how it sounds combined with a good Greenback, they're from the same heritage so they mix well, however it adds depth in the low end and bite in the high end, while the Greenback dominates the midrange.

Glen! Thanks for making this video. I don't know if you saw my comment on your first video of the 6505 combo, I had suggested this very test. As I had said, if the room is small, often a small combo sounds bigger than a half-stack even WITH metal tones. Sometimes there just isn't enough space in the room to get all that air moving by a long-throw 4X12. Thanks for the video. I thought it would be a great option. Now you have scientifically proved it. Thank you Glen!

Just as a side note: speaker polarity only matters when using multiple speakers. If you switch the polarity on one speaker, it will be in opposite phase to the other and cancel it out. The same is true when using multiple amps and/or cabs: make sure the polarity is identical on all of them. When this is your only amp, the polarity on the speaker matters not.

One of my only regrets as a young lad was faced with a selection between Black Widow and Sheffield, I thought the font looked more refined so I thought the Sheffield would have a more refined sound. Glenn, I literally just found and bought a used 6505+ today for no other reason than to try this because of how neat it sounds after watching this video yesterday. I told myself I wouldn't do anything with a 5150 or anything in its direct family and what you demonstrated actually made me reconsider it. If nothing else, it will be a neat project amp and I'm stoked to swap out the speaker (I know it's a little thing but it's always weirded me out since I thought soldering would be involved and that's a skill I never actually developed). Glenn, Jet City 5012C is Soldano Licensed amp that is a clone of HotRod 50+. Look into Jet City amps with two rocker switches, without jewel light. Those are modafunking killers blessed directly by Soldano.

That upper-mid grind of the BV25M is very reminiscent of the Celestion G12M Legacy/Heritage series (not the G12M Anniversary, which is a different beast). One of my all-time favourite speakers.

Hey, Glenn. I had good luck with the Celestion G12K-100. Have you ever tried the Eminence Swamp Thang? These two speakers seem like the closest offerings from each company. Would you mind doing a video trying and comparing the two?

Glenn! Could you please do a shootout of some of the solid state amps you have looked at like the Laney Loudpedal and the Orange Supercrush?

I totally bought one of these combos after seeing your last video. Got it for 450 dollar bucks. I'm thinking of replacing the Shitfield speaker with the Eminence DV-77.
