In games..? Generally if you can't run native res then there will likely be scaling artifacts beyond just the reduced resolution ... Except for special cases such as quarter res. E.g. 720p would match one game pixel to 4 monitor pixels without additional artifacting beyond what is inherent to the lower res. Of course there could be connection issues (dp, hdmi, dvi, vga etc), monitor problems or driver/settings issues besides that that you are experiencing.

I built my wife an entry level gaming build for 300$ using FX4100 , a cheap am3/am3+ matx board, rx550 2GB, 1tb 7200rpm hdd, 2x4 dims of 1600mhz patriot ddr3. Found a decent cpu cooler for 16$ and a tower on sale for 34$ and everything matched her red and black theme with a couple rgb fans that were included with the case and the cpu cooler glows red with a red black mobo and red black ram even. She mainly just plays WoW on medium/high setting at 1080p and pulls a solid 60fps. Best money I spent in a long while, she so much happier from the old 3rd gen intel cpu with integrated graphics that she was playing on from a retired company computer.

I have been tinkering with a 3gb p106-090 and can give you a lot of advice if you are interested. You can use the ORIGINAL 417.22 driver and simply go to the windows registry (Computer / HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Control / Class / {4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} / 001) and change "AdapterType" to " 4 "and add if not present or change it " EnableMsHybrid " to " hexadecimal 1 ". If you get error 12 on the integrated graphics I recommend moving the p106 to another pcie slot (in my case with two motherboards this trick worked) luckily I had another 16x available. However with an adapter a 4x is fine as well as the card also on a 16x gen 3 will work MAXIMUM as 4x gen 1 (blocked by bios). I do not recommend a 1x pcie (mining adapter) because it cuts performance too much, I tried it and unfortunately it was disappointing. I hope I have helped anyone who intends to take this path, I am sorry for the imperfect English but I really wanted to disclose my 30+ hours of testing to make it work perfectly.

The price is right, but if you hunt, you could SOMETIMES find 1050 ti cards for less then $80. It would be worth it for the proper drivers support. That being said, If you could buy like 10 of these for $30 each, pop them in prebuilt office PCs with 300w+ power supplies, it could be worth it. What might be REALLY worth it is to make an OLD console emulation machine. Updating the drivers for Some of these emulators actually sometimes makes them worse until a patch comes out and I find a gtx 1050 to be minimum spec for smooth WiiU performance. A gtx 1050 ti-1060 class GPU is PERFECT for this paired with a 4core 8thread haswell i7 or Xeon.

The ad is a blatent lie from Asus saying they don't use child labor and that the GPUs are reliable. There are so many people, more now than ever that have issues and TRY to RMA their card. But if you thought their customer service was good enough to actually do the RMA, you'd be wrong. You bought a broken card from not tight enough tolerances and now you're screwed. That's what Asus is good for. Not Oz's fault for the ad, Asus made him say all of it.

I bought and installed one of these in a QNAP NAS. It wasn’t immediately supported, but their drivers pick it up in current version and it can be assigned to VMs, Docker and just recently, their Plex DPKG with their provided GeForce drivers. I’m using it for Plex transcoding. I also had it working in Docker as a realtime AI image processor, though that was purely an academic exercise. Prior to the QNAP Plex pkg’s supporting this card for GPU acceleration, I had success, though with much headache to get it to work, using it in a Docker/Plex package. Originally I waned to try using it for a Windows VM, but their custom BIOS doesn’t support the HDMI motherboard pass-through, despite supporting 4 discrete HDMI outputs that can be individually assigned to the main OS or VMs.

I think you can solder on display ports. Would not be a issue for hot air and some good quality flux. Using the onboard display route can be very limiting from what I saw awhile ago. Someone would probably be more interested in the 100 variant for the extra 3gb vram though.

This configuration with passthrough will not work for most VR devices. You will need a direct connection (HDMI, DP, Thunderbolt) to the graphics card itself, which this card does not have.

Yeah, I used to buy Optiplex's that just needed a graphics card and could game for $40, then youtubers told everyone how to save money and now I have not bought an Optiplex in 4 years. I switched to servers, KZbinrs did not explain that savings with servers until recently, now they have went up to ridiculous prices. I have went full circle and now am back to buying mainstream boards and returned CPU's. Every time a huge group of people are told the prices usually triple. With the features you lose and the extra work you have to put in, the 1060 mining card was only worth $35.00.

Okay, but who exactly is this gpu for? I can think of some people who would love to have a $35 GTX card, but most of them are using some random shitty dell or hp machine or something, and it's very unlikely they will have the exact specs required to run this card. Also, to get those specific parts, you might have to spend a little more, meaning that $35 turns into $55 or more, and at that point, I would just recommend saving another $20 or something and getting a $75 card on Craigslist. and if you just need to be able to play games, use those extra $55 to get a better apu with good integrated graphics. Then in the future you will be able to add in a discrete card that gives you more of a performance boost.
