My issue with the Datejust 41 is it looks oversized compared to the 36. DJ is a dress watch, so it should be a bit smaller than a sports rotating bezel Rolex, and in my book, that means the DJ41 is more proportional to a 43mm Sea Dweller or a James Cameron. True. Most people don't have watch collections though and buy one Rolex during their lifetime. They don't care if the 41 is oversized as they don't have anything to compare it with.

You are correct about this. To add to Your points, 99% of people could not care less about watches. I own several Rolexes 43/ 41/36 sizes and the only watches that have ever gotten me seriously compliments are from a MVMT gold watch and my Movado. These compliments are from people who don’t know anything about watches. The people that know Rolex like I do will compliment quietly and that’s it. Wear the watches for yourself and no one else! I’m getting a 36mm day date next week and that’s probably how I stumbled across this video in the algorithm

I have the same exact watch and love it. I wear it every day whether I am going to work, the gym or the beach. My wife bought it for me as a birthday gift. It's now 20 years old and still runs great.

Just received a Datejust 36mm blue dial from an AD....my first AD purchase....waited 4 months for the watch to come in but it was well worth the wait. It is perfect for my wrist and looks just as good on me as my Submariner does, which I purchase from Watchbox 3 years ago. I had tried on a exhibition Datejust 41....fit ok, but really felt too big as a dress watch, too much like bling. Really comes down to personal taste and respecting the choices of others....great video and I'm looking forward to your healthy return...God speed!

I have the same dial/style DJ except mine is a 16220 from 1999 with an engine turned bezel. It was my first Rolex and the watch that got me hooked in this hobby. 36mm is a perfect size, same with the 36mm Day-Date as well. The 40mm Day-Date looks way chunkier, and I really think Rolex messed up the proportions of their 41mm watches. Great video.

I have 2 rolex date just 36 mm. I wouldn't wear anything else. The first one I bought new in 1993. The price has tripled in those years because it has Rolex diamond bezel. Great looking watches. Good video 36 mm is the best deal and women look silly with a 36mm but to each it's own. Great video

I own a 40mm Sub 14060… and just purchased 114270 explorer(36mm) I can’t believe how incredible the watch and size is, I never truly paid any attention to the size of a Rolex from my 40 to the 36… I’ve always loved the look of the explorer and never thought the size would be an issue, naturally a 31mm is for a woman but hell my purchase years ago was a 34mm OP, never gave a second thought to the size. I’m glad to read that most agree it’s about the name and quality, and of course it has to be a Rolex. Thank you, KG

having inherited a 36mm SS datejust in oyster bracelet , plus what you mentioned here . hence that is why i bought a pre-owned 5 digit 2 tone rolex OP date (34mm case) . Lug to lug it is 42mm and it is almost indistinguishable on the wrist from a 36mm yet i like the gold with Steel look . also i purchased a oyster bracelet so it looks and is actually wearability wise also slightly more solid / manly on the wrist compared to a more dress style jubilee 34/36mm OP datejust/date i.e. more versatile too.

You got the right point. dial sizes are same! I think 40.5mm dress watch is too big. Probably 38mm is maximum for dress watch. 34mm used to be the standard size for dress watch.

That's why all the entry level 40mm pieces without a tturning bezel have a dial that's WAY too wide for the date window.

agreed ! i think the datejust is the flagship of Rolex ( my opinion ) I have one , also a Daytona, and frankly people will recognize the datejust as a Rolex more than the daytona unless you re a watch enthusiast .. the 36 MM is perfect

This is correct for bright dials. I’ve put on in 36 but black dial and Wimbledon and it looked like a child’s watch at my wrist. The white one was really perfect so I preordered the white one. Let’s see when I will get it.

On August 8th 2020 my wife passed away after a long illness as she was lying down she told me if I ever get a chance to get a nice watch please get a Rolex and considered a gift from her. Not knowing anything about watches I said okay. When I contacted the local ad. He told me we don't take payments we need full up front before we'll even consider placing your order it takes 1 year to create each Rolex watch and then up to a 2-year wait list perhaps you'd like to move further up the list by buying some other jewelry? Never did get the Rolex been talking to her kids a lot about it lately and started looking at prices on second-hand Market perhaps a 36 is the way to go. Be safe be well

@@itscomplicatedwatches not really it's more a matter of funds when they become available. I am sort of leaning towards a date just and Explorer 1 possibly an explorer 2 the black dial or an Oyster Perpetual but something not too flashy.

@@andrewwolkowich Interesting. Maybe if the market keeps coming down you’ll be able to get a good price on one that you’re interested in. Explorer 2 has complications, which I’m a big fan of. Maybe look into the 16610. You wouldn’t buy one new but if you got one made after 2007 you’d get one similar to the one I have and it’s VERY sexy, imo.

36mm Datejust has perfect proportions. I agree with everything you said with the exception of “Rolex is going to run better than Omega”. Despite Rolex’s popularity and reputation, Omegas movements are and have always been superior to Rolex.
