I was a bad Whovian for a long time - the sort who wouldn't accept that anything before 2005 actually happened. Then Tom Baker showed up in the 50th anniversary special, and I couldn't really do that anymore. But when I did start to look back at the classics, for some reason, I went straight to Jon. And it was like I was experiencing failing in love with Doctor Who all over again! Even though he died before I was born, I feel like he was my first Doctor in a way. He's just magic and I absolutely adore him. 💖

Jon was my first Doctor. I watched half of the first episode of Spearhead from Space before my mother turned it off because it was "too scary". Then a few years later I found the repeat of Sea Devils and I was hooked completely. When eventually I started collecting the DVDs, I was surprised to find that the third Doctor portrayed so many of the beliefs and attitudes I've tried to personally follow and uphold without remembering where I'd first seen them.

I thought the Brig was the "straight man" to the Doctor's eccentric personality
@TheMadwomen11 ай бұрын
Apparently, Pertwee was told to simply play himself. He said was a great help to him, because he was mostly known for putting on a lot of silly personas (similar to his disguise as a cleaning lady in this vid). He was having time pinning himself to who he actually was, and Doctor Who was a great help in that.

They’re actually both quite similar, they both wear mostly black with occasional splashes of colour, quite sarcastic, not afraid to get physical, bitter over recent trouble with Time Lords (exiled to Earth/Time War) and they both dislike and constantly clash with authority figures despite often being seen as one themselves.
@dominicrossitto58902 жыл бұрын
A few scenes that would have been perfect to add to this awesome compilation: 1) In addition to eathibg the sandwich in that fencing scene with The Master (absolutely hysterical), at the end, The Doctor gives a yell and "karate kicks" the weapon form The Master's and says "How many times have I told you! You'll NEVER solve anything with violence!" 2) In The Three Doctors, when Omega conjures up in The Doctor's mind a metallic looking Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Doctor has a "Judo/wrestling" match with it. 3) In The Carnival of Monsters, he has a bixing contest with a British Navel officer played by Ian Marter, who would go on to portray Harry Sullivan, one of The Fourth Doctor's companions and later became involved with the writing of novelisations of Doctor Who TV serials for Target Books, penning nine such adaptations in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I loved that this incarnation of The Doctor was willing to engage in physical confrontations, but still only when necessary. He would voice his disdain for violence but would acknowledge that physical action was sometimes necessary.
@kendraressler44972 жыл бұрын
Heck even the 1st Doctor was willing to put up a physical fight to defend himself if he had to. I don't mind the Doctor's pacifism when it comes to not using guns and not resorting to lethal methods but I wouldn't mind if every incarnation or two we had a Doctor who could physically defend themselves with Venusian Akido like the 3rd Doctor did.

13 is a hit or miss. If you're a stickler for writing and characterization, you might not enjoy her run. Especially if you love 12 - they just don't compare. BUT if you're lax about those things, her first two seasons follow the same episodic rubric as the rest of nuWho. Her third season pulls an oldWho and has a six-parter, though it's got pretty mixed reviews. 14 and 15 (as of April 2024) are on Disney+. 15 reminds me of 2 - chipper, funny, inquisitive, caring, serious when he needs to be. If that's your thing, I recommend checking the D+ specials out!
