This video was so helpful. Baby will be 4 months in 1.5 weeks..suddenly this week he stopped sleeping through the night and naps 30min a at a time. Almost always fussy. Just tonight, He fell asleep after an hour of soothing and is awake 25min later. This video has given me hope.❤

Oh my word, yes! My son has never fallen asleep on his own aside from in the car - always has to be held or me laying with him. He will scream for 45 minutes or more if I lay him in his crib since birth (he was born at 35 weeks, with no health problems). He was always a great napper when I laid with him - 2+ hours at a time, two to three times a day, plus sleeping 8-10 hours at night, only semi-waking to nurse once or twice. Now, he's fighting naps, only dozing 20-30 min at a time, max. Then awake for hours in between, and hits the witching hour at 5pm every day, screaming in exhaustion until 7 or 8pm when he knocks out when I lay down with him. Nothing soothes him, not even nursing. I'm at my wits end and it's only been 5 days in a row! 😢😢😢

I was not sure 4 month old sleep regression could happen the month before but this answered this. My 3 1/2 month old wasn’t always a great sleeper but she was sleeping 3 hours stretches to 6 hour stretches in her own bed and now she doesn’t want to at all even in her own bed. I’m just ready for this to be over especially before I start back at work.

Hello Tiffany, Regressions can be tough! Some babies do experience regressions a little earlier or later than others. The first few months can be so exhausting. Babies go through a big developmental regression when they turn 4 months and this can contribute to many restless nights. It does get better; I promise! Babies aren’t developmentally ready to learn how to fall asleep independently until they turn 5 months old. Your little one is almost ready! However, there are plenty of tips and tricks that can be implemented NOW to help improve sleep! I would highly recommend reading about these strategies in our 4 month old sleep guide attached here. www.babysleepmadesimple.com/4-month-old-not-sleeping It can also be really helpful to chat with a sleep consultant! I offer 45-minute consultations on Zoom. My consults include a personalized sleep plan for your little one and a follow-up email to answer any future questions. I’m a mr mom and for the first few weeks of caring for my baby solo I have had no issues. He often times would oversleep. I’ve noticed his growth has been exponential and all of a sudden has trouble napping and is way more fussy at times he normally wouldn’t be… I plan on upping his feed a smidge and continuing what I do to keep him just enough stimulated before naps. Thank you for the video.

My baby is almost 4 months old and before she used to wake to feed every 4 hours but now it’s ever 1-2 hours . She is also refusing to breastfeed so it’s hard to feed her during the day. I'm fairly certain my daughter is going through a mixture of a growth spurt and brain development currently. It's been affecting her sleep for almost a week now, waking her up every 30 minutes compared to her sleeping for 12 hours through the night without waking for the last 2 months. We have been feeding her more and have had a consistent bed time routine for 2 months now, but nothing is helping her sleep / stop waking up. We recently tried swaddling her again and are testing that out because she tosses and turns and kicks/punches herself awake, but I am wondering what else we can do to help her not wake up or fight bedtime. Thank you!

Hi Justin! I would recommend following the age based guides to understand the current developmental stage and thus manage expectations. Luckily regressions don't usually drag on very long and starting 5 months, you can start formal sleep training gently. You can start by implementing the tips on this guide for a week and with consistency, you should be able to see improvement. If you'd like detailed assistance, I would also recommend our program, 21 Days to Peace & Quiet. We offer 4 different step-by-step methods for you to choose from (from super gentle & gradual to quick & efficient.) Each step of the way you get advice based on your baby’s developmental stage, energy levels, and temperament. You enroll on this page: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/21-days-to-peace-quiet-program The program costs $197 now, but you should know that in just a few weeks' time Jilly's updated program will be out and it will have a $97 DIY option. Jilly is currently on maternity leave. As of October 1st she will be answering questions in our private Facebook group 2 times per week. (In the DIY option you do it all yourself. There's no messaging option or Facebook group. BUT you get all the same information and resources and can definitely get your baby sleeping great.) In general, when you are 100% consistent in following the steps of the program, your baby will be sleeping great at night within 1-3 weeks. It depends on the method you choose as well as your baby's adaptability. But we cover all of this in the program! I hope this isn't too confusing. Happy to answer any questions you have about the program. Have a great day! / Leena, BSMS Support Team

@Babysleepmadesimple
@Babysleepmadesimple 10 ай бұрын
This is a great question! I would continue to swaddle your LO if she isn't rolling yet. If she is rolling on her own though, then you do have to unswaddle for safety reasons! Your LO could also be upset if she is overtired and still getting support to fall asleep! Babies naturally have shorter sleep cycles and wake up often. It is normal and natural for us to help support them to fall back asleep when they are little. They need our help! The only challenge is that if your baby gets your support to fall asleep at bedtime (rocking, patting, feeding), then she needs that support to fall back asleep for every middle of the night waking. This leads to a restless night for both babies and parents! But don't worry! I have some AMAZING news! Since your LO is 5 months old, she is developmentally ready to learn how to fall asleep independently.This is truly the key to longer stretches of sleep every night! If your baby falls asleep on her own at bedtime, then she can self-soothe during the night without parental support! @Babysleepmadesimple
@Babysleepmadesimple 2 ай бұрын
I would. make sure you dress your LO according to the temperature. With 26c, your LO would do well with a very light 0.5 TOG sleep sack and a onesie. You want to keep it light and cool since your LO's room temperature is on the warmer side. Our hands and feet will always tend to be on the cooler side, but feeling your LO's chest can be helpful since this is a better gauge of being too hot/cold. If you are worried about excessive sweating though, definitely chat with your LO's pediatrician to rule out any health issues.

Most regressions typically last between 1-3 weeks. The 4 month regression is definitely the toughest one. Hi! The 4-month sleep regression can be SO exhausting! I remember feeling like a walking zombie during those days. It is normal for kiddos at this age to still nap between 3-4 hours during the day. The great news is that your LO is also almost 5 months and this is when he can learn how to fall asleep independently. Falling asleep independently without any sleep associations (rocking, feeding, patting) is truly the way to get your son to sleep longer stretches at night. @Babysleepmadesimple
@Babysleepmadesimple 8 ай бұрын
Congratulations on your newest addition! This definitely sounds like the 4 month sleep regression. It is 100% one of the most exhausting regressions that a LO can go through. While it is normal because your LO is having a big leap in brain development, it is truly exhausting when LO's are up so much at night. Regressions usually pass within 2-3 weeks. The good news is that after this regression passes, your LO will be developmentally ready to learn how to fall asleep independently. Learning this skill is what will significantly reduce those night wakings because she will be able to put herself back to sleep in the middle of the night. Our program helps parents teach their LO's this skill step by step! CLICK HERE to learn more-->www.babysleepmadesimple.com/baby-sleep-consultant Best, Alyssa, BSMS Client Support Manager

I am using your exhausted mom survival kit on my 3 month old and it is working like a charm. Plus i am being consistent with naps and feeding during the day. I was wondering does this help them ease into the 4 montb regression or will it back fire?. Just curious because now he is not fighting us only a little to go down for naps and bedtime?

Hello Amanda, It is great that you are working on building a strong sleep foundation. :) Sometimes, there really isn't a whole lot that you can do about the 4 month regression since it is a big leap in brain development. You can, however, continue to follow your PNR, so that your LO is in a great routine for after the regression has passed and when he is reading for sleep training around 5 months! My baby is a week shy of 4 months. He takes around 4 naps, 40 mins each. He used to takr his last feed of the night, and then his next feed is around 6-7 hrs later, during which he is asleep. Lately he has started fussing a lot during the night, he seems very restless and wakes up an hour or two earlier for a feed. How do i help him out? I try to settle a routine but everyday is totally different than the previous. What do i do?

I was thinking the reason why my 4 month baby restless sleep at night is may be i drink coffee and i feed him while am breastfeeding him. You think it is?
@Babysleepmadesimple
@Babysleepmadesimple 2 ай бұрын
Usually, it is the 4-month sleep regression that causes babies to struggle to sleep during this time. However, if your LO is sensitive to any caffeine in your milk, you can try avoiding coffee after 4pm to see if this helps. As soon as your LO turns 5 months, then you can teach him how to fall asleep independently and this is truly the key to STTN. We cover this in our 21 Days to Peace and Quiet program and we would love to support your family too! CLICK HERE to learn more-->www.babysleepmadesimple.com/baby-sleep-consultant

Hello and thanks for your message! How old is your little one? Babies often go through the 4 month sleep regression and sleep can be interrupted. I would encourage you to put your little one down drowsy but awake after nursing. Stroke your babies legs or face to keep the baby while awake while nursing. The good news is that a breastfed baby can't really overfeed. They are able to stop when they are full. Pretty sure my baby is going through this. What do you suggest for second shifters? My baby has been on a schedule of bedtime between 1 and 3am waking up at 7-10am since 7 weeks then after that its feed back down until around 11am-1pm feed again back down after about an 1-1.5 hours between each nap his feeding times are usually around 4pm,6pm,8:30 pm, and 11pm. Going to bed at 7:30pm-9pm is not doable for us we both work second shift. We had been doing the Ferber method and slowly transitioning out of a swaddle for a week when he started sleeping in 45minute to 1hr stretches for naps and 4-5 hours for night sleep not wanting to go back down in the mornings like he used to he fought sleep from 7:30am-10:15am this morning and was back up by 11:30 am slept till 12 ate and was back down until 1:20.

Hi mama! We usually recommend sleep training around 5-6 months old, because there are major developmental leaps that happen before that age that could disrupt the process. So if you can, I'd recommend hanging tight for a little while longer before you start sleep training. However there are still tips and routines that you can implement right now. Wait no more! Here is a link to our FREE EXHAUSTED MOM's SURVIVAL KIT and a general sleep guide for your little one's age. It will help you understand your LO's current developmental stage and the affect on sleep and what you can expect from your LO right now. A fixed schedule is not realistic at this stage, so I would try and follow the guide and schedule as closely as possible, but be prepared for a lot of flexibility. www.babysleepmadesimple.com/exhausted-moms-survival-kit www.babysleepmadesimple.com/4-month-sleep-regression-tips-video Best of luck! Thank you for your videos. My almost 4 month old is going through this and she is also now rolling in her crib when wanting to sleep. However, she will either get stuck and begin crying. When this happens what should i do? I follow a wake, eat, play and sleep routine, but she hasn’t been eating full feedings when awaking given that she isn’t taking great naps. They’re averaging 35-50 mins. In order to make sure she is getting plenty of food in, I at times give her some food prior to putting down for nap. Is this ok to do ? I’ve read to not feed to sleep so that they don’t make that eat and sleep association. We aim to start our day for 1st wake up at 6am as we were rolling a great schedule but now she’s waking up around 4:30-5am. Do we begin the day at that point or try to stretch it out until 6am. Diaper change, soothing and pacifier at times won’t work, so she can feed bc she’s probably hungry. I know there’s a lot of questions here. I greatly appreciate you videos and guidance!!!!

Hello! Check out our 4 month old sleep guide for helpful tips and scheduling advice. Milestones such as rolling, standing, crawling, etc can all cause sleep interruptions for a few days. The best thing you can do is give your LO plenty of time to practice during the day. You can help your LO get unstuck once or twice, but after that, you really should let your LO figure it out on her own! Once she does, she will be back to sleeping well! Hello! The 4 month sleep regression normally is just a few weeks because your LO goes through a major growth in brain development. If your LO still isn't sleeping longer stretches at this age, it is most likely because your LO has some sleep associations (nursing, rocking, patting) to sleep. Once you teach your LO how to fall asleep independently, you will see that your LO can sleep through the night and resettle independently. I was in your shoes before! Definitely check out our 21 Days program. We would love to help you step by step! Alyssa, BSMS Support Team www.babysleepmadesimple.com/21-days-to-peace-quiet-program

Yes, my child does have sleep association. But I don't want to sleep train him. Will he never be able to sleep independently without it? Or will he develop ability to link sleep cycles naturally with age?
@Babysleepmadesimple
@Babysleepmadesimple 3 жыл бұрын
@@ashu1913 The age when your LO will naturally start sleeping well on their own depends on many factors. To be honest, we often see parents of 4 and 5 year olds still bed-sharing, or having to lie down for an hour at bedtime to get their kids to sleep. There’s no specific age that we can promise your LO will learn to sleep through the night on their own. We rarely see babies and toddlers naturally sleeping through the night under 2 years old unless the parents take active measures on this. (But of course we mostly speak to parents struggling with sleep!) Sleep training involves effort, consistency, and sometimes a few tears. But remember, it’s short-term and sets your family up for peaceful sleep for YEARS. Clare, BSMS Support Team

Hi Jilly. I’ve been “consuming” your channel but I’m still to find the answer to my problem :( my 3 months old is really good during night time usually just waking up once to feed before 7:30. In the morning she’s lovely and usually sleeps 2h on her first nap, but after that everything starts getting crazy. I constantly monitor her wake time and I take her for a nap max 1:30 after she had waken up. Everything gets a bit more difficult of her to fall asleep and her naps become of 40min. After 4:00 she refuses to take another nap and gets super fussy. I’ve been going out for walks with her between 5:00/6:00pm to see if she settles, but majority of the time she doesn’t... this makes the end of the day a nightmare and bed routine a struggle. Please help!!

Hi Alexandra, Sorry to hear your afternoons and evenings are a struggle. That can be normal for many babies. It sounds like her night sleep and morning nap are great, though! Keep watching her awake times and try to get her to nap/sleep after 1.5-2 hours of awake time. Shorter naps in the afternoon are ok. At this age, your baby’s nap lengths can be unpredictable, that’s normal. Just aim for more short naps. The stroller, baby carrier and swing are ok for naps (as long as you supervise them.) My free Exhausted Mom’s Survival Kit walks you through setting up a peaceful and relaxing bedtime for your baby everyday. It has a lot of tips to help relax and calm your restless baby in the afternoon and evening. You can sign up for it here: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/exhausted-moms-survival-kit Good luck!

My LO is almost 4 months, she has been waking every one to two hours after the midnight from two weeks ago. We are already doing the tips you mentioned (appropriate awake time, bedtime 7:30-8:30pm, bathing every night, able to self-settle for naps and night bedtime). But seems like she’s unable to resettle at night and continuously wake up often no matter what I do. I feed her every 2 hours during the day. What can i do to make her sleep longer stretch also is this going to be her permanent night sleep?
