This is my small planter design that I've optimized for speed and simplicity. These are a great Mother's Day Item that you should be making for the next few weeks.

Good video. I will say that you seem to talk the entire time without any breaks. I wish pickets were that cheap in my area. They seem to be stuck at $4. I build planters and there's a lot of competitors building these basic square planters. I would encourage anyone to add details that make your product unique. Adding extra trim, staining all or parts of the planter, making it a rectangle vs a square, there are many ways to step beyond the basic box. Women are the majority of buyers, think cute.

Good video. Subscribed. I'm building a similar planter in my area and there is steady demand for them. I'm selling an average of 2 per day and most of the buyers are interested in custom work, for the future.

Thanks for the sub! Same here. Beyond the ones I've sold, I've picked up a couple of custom jobs that have brought in about $100 (net) each. The planters are a good foot in the door.

Whats the purpose of the glue if using nails? Like what would happen if no glue was used with the brad nails

Nails will pull out with wood movement, freezing/thawing and the constant weight of the soil pushing against the walls. Longer nails driven in an angle will counter this somewhat. Glue is just cheap insurance if screws aren't being used.

The glue is doing all the work. The nails just need to hold long enough for the glue to dry. If you just used nails, they would rip out within about 6 months to a year. Especially thin brad nails from an air nailer.

Yea, brad nails don't really have a lot of holding power, they are not good (alone) for "non-static" projects. And cedar is a really soft wood, they would just pull out easily, the nails.

@@macp349 I just watched a video about various wood glues including Titebond Ultimate 3. I understand (now) that wood glue typically has 1000+, 2000+, or 3000+ pounds of strength. Aka way way way more than needed for holding soil and water and way way way more than a brad nail

You need a hole in the bottom for drainage or you'll kill everyones plants. ;) FYI.

True, if the bottom panels are too tight, you could have drainage issues. I like to line the bottom with a weed barrier to keep the dirt in and let the water pass through.

I recently got a bunch of fence boards home and they are fairly wet. Should I wait for them to dry before I assemble planters?

@@Jmatoon1 Ideally yes. As they dry, they will shrink and warp some. Try to lay them out as flat as possible and even add some weight to prevent it.
