I like this video a lot because it's not your usual, red wing this or wolverine that. Your review are based on actual wear in urban environments. On top of that, your love for the Captain boot comes off very genuine. Other you tubers also present Thursday boots like they are trying to make a sale. Great channel!

@@saynotowoke.8492 Yea handmade artisan things are definitely not the norm and are very expensive. I only have rubber soled boots, the softer the compound the more comfortable. My most comfortable boots are definitely some 10 year old redwings that are worn down, but work surprisingly well on the concrete with foam insoles. I'm quite surprised you have leather that has held up to regular wear for over 35 years, you should make a video or fourm post on them. A lot of people would appreciate it and maybe hoard less artisan shoes knowing that they can keep theirs for decades

I bought a pair of Frye boots. They are the perfect boot for me. I had been shopping for a while and tried on so many boots. The Frye boot was my favorite and they look like they were made for all the clothes in my fall/winter closet. It is best to go with the boot that fits your wardrobe. Nothing worst than having a clothing item that you cannot wear because you have nothing to wear it with.

I bought a pair of the captain boots based mainly on this video and the others you have made speaking so highly of them. You often mention the comfort but I have been wearing mine and they have little to no comfort at all. I like the way they look but my red wings have more comfort and I’m still breaking them in.
@Stridewise5 жыл бұрын
Really? These boots are lined and Red Wings aren't, I find lined boots way more comfy. Some prefer the hardwon comfort of breaking in tough leather midsoles which I can appreciate but for me, I just wear my Thursdays more.
@torpac424 жыл бұрын
One of the most important factors to consider.. How will the boots hold up after 3-5 years? Doubt the Thursday Boot's Captain will hold up as well compared to its competitors. But then, its over half the price. Pretty good review, wish you would consider some UK brands such as Crockett & Jones and Tricker's. But then, where do you draw the line?
@jmartin27786 жыл бұрын
Check out the Crockett and Jones Tetbury. The suede is super high quality and very durable with the Dainite sole. I put them through a few New England winters and they still look fantastic. Just rinse the boots under water and any salt comes right out. Add to that, you can wear them year round. Also, Heschung makes a very high quality tough Norwegian split toe that is rock solid.Thanks for the great review.

They said they were cancelled due to not being in stock but no one bothered to contact me, as a matter of fact the money is still on hold on my credit card, so I really was looking forward to trying out those Daltons but unfortunately I never got mine. I'm not sure where this 3 year break-in comes from. I wore my Iron Rangers every other day. After 2-3 days, they fit like a glove. I'd wear them for some of my 12-14 hour workdays and completely forget that I'm wearing them. If you want to break them in quicker, add a generous coating of Obenaufs Oil (not the LP) and it will speed it up. I have a couple small issues with them that the White's Service MP solves....albeit at a much higher price.

I can't make the figures work for the Thursday boot here in Australia. By the time I get them shipped the are about 400 AUD. I think I'd rather spend an extra $150 on some 1000 Mile or even Iron Rangers.
@kman496 жыл бұрын
Yeah same for me. Ended up buying red wings from a shop on melbourne for about $470. Expensive but awesome
@leftspeaker20006 жыл бұрын
@@kman49 what Red Wings did you get and how do you wear them. I'm looking at 1000 Miles because you can wear them casually but they also look a bit more formal.
@kman496 жыл бұрын
@@leftspeaker2000 i got iron rangers 8085. I got them for casual wear. I have rm Williams for anything more semi formal. I like the wolverine too but i see there are too many complaints about loose grain so opted for the iron rangers. Leather quality is excellent.
@leftspeaker20006 жыл бұрын
@@kman49 I had not heard that about the lose grain on the Wolverines. I do know that the heel falls off. I think I'm leaning towards the iron rangers.
@kman496 жыл бұрын
@@leftspeaker2000 i was thinking the same as you. Wanted the wolverine for looks. Switched to the idea of iron rangers because of what seemed like too many complaints about loose grain and heels coming apart. Looked at the iron rangers for a while online and i liked them more and more. Took the plunge and glad i did. Quality is excellent. Loving the look even more now.

Hi. What are your thoughts on the ALLEN Edmonds Normandy Cap-Toe boot? They say kudu leather... Here’s one kinda issue. The Kudu is an African type of Antelope. (With excellent softness and long term wearability. I don’t know where AE gets all of their leathers, but I know they purchase large amounts of varying types of leather from Horween. Horween does produce a leather they call kudu - but their site identifies it as a specially treated calfskin.. I’m beginning to question what these boots are really made of. The have a pair in my size on sale for $100 off so currently just under $300. I understand that particular sole wears out pretty quickly, so I’d likely replace it with a genuine Vibram sole or maybe a Dainite sole. Your thoughts?
@Stridewise4 жыл бұрын
You're right that some companies say they use kudu when it's not kudu! Your best bet is to reach out to Allen Edmonds themselves.

Stridewise Disregarding the leather, are you familiar with this boot? If so, I’m asking for your thoughts. Is this a good buy?

Need to retitle it "Best Fashion" boots
@walteasy4sheasy4 жыл бұрын
Love this video. Covers all the boots that aren't the classic custom boot companies, and the elite tier of work-grade, production boots which really are the best--Nick's, Whites, Viberg, Red Wing. Red Wing is a little unfair because of what they've built over the years and what they can deliver at their low price point. Hope all these companies make it to their 100th anniversary and build that real "need" following. Don't scoff because some of the boots in this video are clearly office boots. In fact 2 are decently durable, but I wouldn't pay that much for them.

IMHO, Allen Edmonds ‘Sullivan Street’ hands down beats the Thursday Captain
@Stridewise6 жыл бұрын
Man everyone is talking about that boot lately. I'll have to order it.
@tedbrayton6 жыл бұрын
Those should be in different categories. The Sullivan Street is most definitely a DRESS boot and is more than twice the price. I own both. I consider my Captain's more of an ass kicker boot that doesn't need to babied. My Sullivan Street boots only come out for special occasions.

I just got a pair of Thursday boots a half size smaller than my sneaker size and I'm having a tough time breaking them in! Do you have any advise or a video on that?
@dudewuttheheck6 жыл бұрын
Thursday is NOT indisputably the best value boot. You haven't experienced Indonesian boots. Some of those companies make far better boots for similar prices.
@MarcP52676 жыл бұрын
Javier Rodriguez yea I sold my Thursday boots cause of the quality.
@dudewuttheheck6 жыл бұрын
I have heard that from people before. I'd like to learn from myself, but I don't want to waste money on it.
@MarcP52676 жыл бұрын
Javier Rodriguez yes if you look at forums like Reddit you’ll see the same. My opinion the best value for a mid range boot are Red Wing Heritage boots; Iron Rangers, Blacksmith’s, Beckman’s etc. You can often get factory 2nds that cost around $200.

I have flat feet and usually can't wear chelsea boots, because of almost zero arch support. They bow in and 99% of the time aren't very comfortable. Would you still recommend the RM Williams chelsea? You mentioned they have a really good arch.
