I took traditional piano lessons for five years, and I guess what I learned might be called sight reading. IDK. I learned to read music and plunk it out on the keys. My teacher would always write the key signature on the music, and discuss the sharps or flats. I still have ALL my music and pulled them out a few weeks ago to “start over.” The first ones are dated in February 1971. Yes, you read that correctly. I was eight years old, and at this point I probably play like I did after a year in. I’ve never understood all the chords and key signatures, until earlier this week as I was reading all the fine print on the pages around the simple sheet music. It dawned on me that there MUST be an easier way now to do this rather than how I learned so long ago. I’ve said for all these decades that I never had that fluid feel for the piano where the music flows out of me and onto the keys, and now I think it might be because of the way I originally learned. With a renewed interest into one of my childhood interests and still with the same piano my parents surprised me with that ordinary 3rd grade school day, I’m going to give your way a try and see how I do. Thank you for posting this info. You’ve got a really cute, creative presentation style.

learning cadences in all 3 inversions may also be helpful for you. For example, in C major the complete cadence is: I - IV - I - V - I -- or C - F - C - G - C Starting in root position the chords are : G A G G G E F E D E C C C B C C F C G C root 2nd root 1st root pos inv pos inv pos Starting in 1st inversion the chords are : C C C B C G A G G G E F E D E C F C G C 1st root 1st 2nd 1st inv pos inv inv inv Starting in 2nd inversion the chords are: E F E D E C C C B C G A G G G C F C G C 2nd 1st 2nd root 1st inv inv inv pos inv Be sure to use the correct fingers in each hand for each inversion:
