I had to do several of those dipstick nut repair jobs when i was working on school buses. What i always did was jam a pipe cleaning brush in the tube hole with several zip ties attached to the handle like a chain link fence in case it fell in a can easily retrieve it. Once the adapter was pushed inside the pan i could remove the old o-ring, and clean the mating surface inside the pan with a rag and some brake clean. Put some grease on the new o-ring (to hold it in the adapter better) and fit it into the groove of the adapter. Put a small bead of silicone on the outside of the pan around the adapter opening with the gasket and tighten the nut back in place. Never had one come back leaking.

I used to think I’d like to have 7.3 as a spare truck. After watching these 7.3 videos I decided to forget about that.
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage Жыл бұрын
Well, you have to keep in mind that all 7.3 trucks are at least 20 years old now, and most of them worked every day of their life. 350k is the average mileage you'll find. With maintenance items done, most of these trucks will still be alive well over the million mile mark. Also, these were the last trucks to not have all the emissions controls on them, so they're simpler to work on and much more basic, which makes them extremely reilable. This is probably the second most reilable engine IH/Navistar ever made the 6.9 IDI is probably the first.

I personally would have completely flushed the tranny of all the old ATF. I have 318k miles on mine and have done a complete flush 3 times since i've owned the truck. I bought it with 109k miles. It is easy to do on these transmissions by unscrewing the return line from the cooler where it screws into the side of the trans. Put a hose on the end of the steel line into a catch pan or bucket. Fill the pan with new ATF then run it till a couple quarts comes out, Stop, refill pan run again for a few times till new fluid comes out the hose. Love my 2002 with the 7.3! Thanks for the videos on the truck.

IMHO transmission FLUSHING is a bad idea at any mileage. Just drain and fill. And in the case of a '99 7.3 Power Stroke truck they HAVE a drain on the torque converter so by draining the pan AND converter there is no way there is a quart of fluid left in the lines and cooler.
@canadagoose27
@canadagoose27 Жыл бұрын
@@richardbarkley9909 Reason? My trans has over 500,000 kms on it, never been rebuilt and i always flush all the old fluid out at roughly 100000 km intervals. Still no problems with it.

I think AirDog and FASS make pumps/filters for virtually every diesel imaginable. In my case, I went to NAPA, bought a filter housing, a spin-on diesel filter and two pipe nipples. I cut the rubber line as close to the tank as I could, and put my filter assembly in it. It all cost about $50 and took me less than an hour. I'm about to do a video on the full setup when we add it to this truck. This time, I'll be SURE to get part numbers and links to products. Stay tuned!!

I'm getting an e350 7.3 ambulance soon to renovate.. what do u recommend any particular oil? Do u have certain things that fail? The vehicle has only 146k on clock. What things to look out for? Also any addives to add or that you use to make the 7.3 run better.
@ProjectTimeGarage

For oil, I use Shell Rotella T4 - I don't run Synthetic myself, just good old dead dinosaurs. For additives, I use ArchOil in the fuel and in the oil: Here are links: Oil Friction Modifier: amzn.to/3m0oLj7 Fuel Treatment: amzn.to/3SmvIHy The only things that really fail on these are the Cam Position Sensor and FICM. Both are fairly uncommon, though. I do hear about the failures a lot, but the other side of that coin is the millions of other trucks out there that are fine. At 146K, I would think you'll be good.

what does dead pedal mean?
@ProjectTimeGarage

Basically the gas pedal has no effect on the engine. It stays at idle no matter what. The 7.3 and 6.0 trucks exhibit that symptom when there are problems with the ICP sensor or IPR valve.

If you have a shop, why wouldn't you drop the oil pan and do it right?
@ProjectTimeGarage

Well, dropping the pan involves removing the transmission, transfer case, driveshaft, front tires, front springs, front axle, and both engine mounts. The Ford service manual says the engine should be removed. So, go through all that, or use one of the quick and easy repairs? Also, these repair kits have been around a while.
