It would be maddening if the god of war franchise ever decides to explore our Irish mythology

👏 Now that was fantastic story of The 6 Great Irish Gods in Celtic Mythology history alright!

Technically it was five Irish Gods and one Gallo-Roman God. Cernunnos isn't from Ireland

make Statius Thebaid and Lucian Dialogues of the dead( they are the too most detailed sources about the underworld)

Lucian is pretty fun. More of a satirist than a reporter of facts but it's still interesting to see what he has to say

@@wildmen5025 is really cool and is the only source that i ever seen that Hercules actually talk, other sources like Diodorus Siculus and Apollodorus are just narrations, Lucian gave Hercules a personality

@@alberich3963 You might enjoy the plays of Euripides and Aristophanes then since Herakles actually has speaking parts in both Euripides' play about Herakles and Aristophanes' The Frogs

Wow, I didn't know too much about celtic gods, other than a cardgame of my country (Chile) called Mitos y Leyendas (Myths and Legends) which covers many mythologies around the globe. Awesome. Also, I'm impressed by the stories of this mythology, it might be telling stories of the diferent populations that arrived to the isles (ancient european western hunter-gatherers, anatolian farmers, bellbeakers and other ancient cultures). Amazing how mythologies can carry stories from ancient times.

I can’t wait to see how Mimir from God of War falls into this category since he’s Celtic.

Nuada should have been the good guy in Hellboy 2 this guy had nothing against humans
@Karatop420Ай бұрын
Woah, woah, right outthe gate. The Dagda wasn't called "good" because of generosity or anything ethics related. He was called " good" because he was said to be good at every skill... ....OK, continue on!

Five Irish Gods and one Gallo-Roman God. Hail to the Dagdha! Hail to the Morrigan! Hail Cernunnos! Hail Lugh! Hail Nuada!

Where is the Welsh? Celtic isn’t just irish. Scottish and Welsh mythology exists too.

Celts were Irish no?
@1989jimbobАй бұрын
@kingmuizz708 the Celts likely came from Western Europe and ended up in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and other places 🙂
@gwilymwilliams4195Ай бұрын
@@kingmuizz708 celts where a whole group of people across the British Isle and some parts of France and Spain too. Irish mythology has the most documented examples of Celtic mythology as most of it was written down and Ireland didn’t experience as much invasion, especially the romans. Some stuff does survive, specifically Gallo-Roman and Welsh mythology.
@1989jimbobАй бұрын
You are correct but Wales, Scotland and Ireland have different mythologies all with Celtic influences, I think it is OK to separate them

...and Cu Chulain wasn't just a legendary hero, lol. He held the sane theological role and spot in the pantheon as Fenrir, Rudra, Vishnu, and prometheus/kronos/Saturn. Fwiw, Nuada/Dagda/Lugh is the same tripartite God's that results from spotting the "absolute" in the other mythologies, held by Bres for the Celts. Breighan is Brahman, or prajapati. He is split into mitra-rudra-agni in the vedas, and Zeus-poseidon-hades for the Greeks. This why there are so many triple gods." They all came from the proto-indoeuropean religion of their common ancestors.🧙♂️

The great and beautiful God of Ireland Celtic mythology is 1 trillion ages
@humanity600Ай бұрын
They cant have been gods though because they were beaten by literal humans (the Gauls). The scholastic theory that they were fey makes more sense.
@wildmen5025Ай бұрын
You have to remember that our sources on Irish myths come from Christian monks well after the conversion period. Much like with Germanic Gods, the Irish Gods are depicted in these texts as being more like superhumans to make Them more acceptable for Christians to still talk about.
@alberich3963Ай бұрын
Christian authors are the correct answer
@humanity600Ай бұрын
@@alberich3963 you see the problem with this line of thinking is that Christian works explicitly believed the Tuatha to be later descendants of Noah & thus humans, which in and of itself contradicts the Celtic myths of them coming from the sky or mist. Christian writers gain nothing by saying they are fey, especially when the Church attempted to ban belief in the fey multiple times but eventually just gave up.
@humanity600Ай бұрын
@@wildmen5025 that's operating under a very general assumption that Christians treated every culture they met the same way which we know to be untrue. The Norse were assimilated, and we see this in ancient attempts to link Odin & Jesus in order to convert the Norse. The Celts have gods like Cernunnos who is not described as sharing the same nature as beings like Dagda or Nuada. Maybe its a regional thing that varied between Welsh, Irish & Scottish (like Lugh & the old god Lugos) but it seems like the Welsh had gods, then they had creatures created in their image like the Fomori & the Tuatha clan which is a common trope in myth. Hence my comment.
@wildmen5025Ай бұрын
@@humanity600 I'd argue it's a lot more than an assumption. We know the Irish texts have a Christian bent to them. Why else would there be references to the story of Noah in an Irish text about the history of Ireland? That's referring to an entire generation, mind you. I'm just not willing to believe that it's not purposeful that the Gods are depicted the way They are in these texts.
