The “welcome to the world of” bit was spot on. Why do devs think I will care about all the weird jargon that pads out their game?

Six key words I'm now stuck on: "Welcome to the world of Poonwabia". It really is a lead dev WAY too confident in the success of this game no one's ever heard of that'll go the way of Anthem. Sean from PlayStation or Phil from Xbox would never utter horsesh*t like that. MAYBE that fool Microsoft used to have that thought the future was all about the Kinect
@JazGalaxy2 жыл бұрын
In defense of “ that fool Microsoft used to have”, he didn’t think the future of xbox was Kinect. He saw it as a kill shot. See, ever since the late 90s, tech companies dreamed of the idea of a “set top box” that could “own the living room”. If you had all of a customers digital life going through one machine, just like cell phones now, you could have unlimited profit. MS was so flush with success over the Xbox 360 that they felt it was finally within reach, and hubris made them reach out to grab something that was never really there. Every single major tech company has wanted it and tried it, so it wasn’t THAT crazy for me to try.

Phrase of the show for me was "so excited". Delivered every third sentence, sometimes twice per-sentence, with laboriously muted energy every time. I was hoping Kyle might put together a supercut, it's taken the place of "experience" in these presentations

@@scottyfromtotty5330 i've been watching self-improvement vids on how to conquer fear, and one of the more interesting methods i came across was to trick your own brain into re-interpreting fear as excitement - which is especially easy because both emotions share similar symptoms (racing heartbeats, shallowed breathing, perspiration, etc). Sure makes me wonder if the presenters are, in fact, scared AF. I could see that.

I'll tell you who I am, as part of your demographic: I'm someone who's tired of games being stuck in the same childish phase it's been in for decades. It was alright back when I was a kid, but almost thirty years later we're still killing demons and robots and monsters and bad people with guns. Games like Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are the best in the business because they focus on the things that make video games unique. I thought Kojima would go there with Death Stranding, but he just wants to make movies. And with Re2, 3 and 4, Modern Warfare and The Last of Us Part I, it seems like we're stuck in the same swamp of remakes as the movie world has been in for a while. Imagine if Kendrick Lamar would just remake Section 80 or Penguin would re-release The Great Gatsby set in 2022 LA. I like Disco Elysium, A Short Hike and Celeste. Tell me: where's the next Grim Fandango?
