Picked one of these up after watching this review this morning. (Got mine at Best Buy for $669). Here's some thoughts coming from one of the first gen Nitro users. Replacing my i5 7300HQ/GTX 1050 4GB Nitro 5 with the poor cooling, Dave is right that this machine stays way cooler and doesn't throttle like the old model does. Keyboard: I have stupid-large hands and it feels fine, cramped sure, but since my fingers are so long anyway I'm used to the "claw grip" in order for my thumb to reach the space bar anyway. Screen: Less light bleed through than my old model by a lot, but it's still there. 60Hz should be fine. One thing Dave didn't mention here is there's no SD card slot - Kinda a bummer for content creators. The USB Type-C is not DisplayPort/Display Out. The performance of this machine is great. This will be my second Nitro since the first one held up. Resale value is surprisingly strong so there's that going for it too. Unit and power brick are noticeably lighter in weight and size than my old Nitro, but it's still no ultrabook. 8GB of RAM is not enough. With the reservation for the AMD Radeon onboard graphics you're left with 7.5GB of usable RAM. This becomes a great buy with some upgrades. If you invest another $100 into this by adding a 500GB 2.5" SSD as well as another DDR4 3200 8GB stick, there's not much that's going to slow this thing down.
@romisebastian73944 жыл бұрын
I have an older Acer nitro 5 as well. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get for the older nitro 5 that you sold. I am asking cos I was thinking selling mine as well.
@aeroraccoon41674 жыл бұрын
@@romisebastian7394 I still need to wipe mine before I list it, but mine has a 1TB hard drive and 16GB of RAM installed as well. From what I saw on eBay my model with those upgrades sells for about ~$475 and that's about what it would go for on Craigslist as well. So for me paying ~$200 for a new machine is worth it.
I’ma be honest i didn’t read the comment just saw you had it and if I wanted to hook up the laptop to a 144 hz monitor could I do that and get those kind of frames

@@gabrieloksanen162 gaming laptops usually don't reach their highest potential in terms of performance unless they're plugged in. pulling all the power for a dedicated gpu wrecks battery life, so most gaming laptops by default will throttle themselves if they're running on the battery, though that's not every laptop, and you can usually disable that on most but in short, no, plugging it in is actually better performance, not worse. i actually swapped laptops with my best friend; she's in the navy and wanted something to play games on and also use for her school work there. when i had it though, i used it almost exclusively while plugged in, so i can't really comment in the battery life overall, but it seemed to be about 2-3 hours the few times i did move it around.

I've had the 2019 model for a year and here's my thoughts on them truthfully. Dave is completely right about the display. It's noticeably dark, and can be bothersome when playing shooters as you can't really see what you're shooting at in the distance. Also if you bring your laptop outside you won't be able to see the screen at all. The keyboard is fine, I never noticed it until Dave pointed it out. It feels comfortable and you can get used to it really easily. It depends where you're coming from, either you never owned a laptop before or you have. I didn't before so that's probably why it was so easy for me to get used to. Also the battery life is terrible so it's going to have to be hooked up charging 24/7. It's also heavy and definitely not very portable, so not too good for class use. The cooling is insanely bad your hand can burn if you touch the top of the bar above the keyboard while you're running an intensive game. And the fans are pretty loud. That's all of the negatives, but it's expected of a budget gaming laptop. The pros is literally everything else. This laptop is an absolute beast and destroys every game you throw at it. I upgraded mine to 16GB of ram, and here are some benchmarks. At max settings: League of legends 200fps valorant 160FPS GTAV 55 FPS Borderlands 2 90 FPS. I haven't had any problems with any games at all. However, despite the frames being high the response times are a bit problematic when you're running intensive games such as GTAV. It's noticeable but not obtrusive. And on a 60 hertz monitor all you need is a game to run at 60FPS, and there wasn't a single game I found that couldn't do that at its lowest settings. If you have any questions just lmk.

Got my nitro 5 for a while now, and I'm actually loving it, the nitrosense gave me problems for a few days but after that was resolve it was great. I'm left handed so the fact that the keys are shifted to the left was a great thing, specially the touchpad, most laptops have their touchpads either to the center or the right, so having a left sided touch pad makes it easier for me to use

I just recently bought the 2019 model last June with the Ryzen 5 3550H, 1650 graphics and 120Hz screen for PHP 40K or $807. It's good it's just that the keyboard keys should be pressed at the center to register. And I'm not a gamer, I just needed a laptop for web development with a good processor and expandable RAM should I need it in the future. Other laptops from in my country have either lower RAM or they're soldered or are much more expensive like the one's from Lenovo. And the 2020 model isn't available here yet.

That happens most of the time in third world countries. Since, the laptop is manufactured outside the country, when they ship products inside, taxes goes brrr brrr. Also not mentioning the fact that laptops are being sold in a retailer and not in official stores. In order for the retailer to earn money, they increase the price. And when the price is increased, again the VAT will become bigger once you buy it. Some suggest to buy online in amazon, ebay or US online sellers. Tho it'll take two week or sometimes, even a month, at least it'll be closer to the original price
