I can only say this Road Trip video needs to be nominated for an Oscar. Kansas will never be the same now that the Layton crew has left for Utah with the "69 Dodge Charger". In my working days, I traveled the entire state of Kansas and have been in every one of the towns you stayed or visited sure enjoyed the venture. Looking forward to watching the rebuild. The department of Tourism for Kansas owes you all some money for the great publicity you did for the State.

2:20 I'd definitely prefer the '69 - but then, I'm an old fogie. Love how small it looks next to the modern ones - and to think that people always assume those old ones are so much larger than a modern car. Think again! 😁

Great trip, liked you guys had fun. The idle mixture screws only change the A/F mixture at idle. The main metering circuit is what you really wanted to adjust and that involves replacing jets/metering rods as needed. Good catch on the lower radiator hose.

Loving this adventure! My dad had a 69, someone wrecked it for him when I was little. Hard as it would be to let her go if I won I'd give her to my dad, watching him light up like a little boy on Christmas would be so worth the pain of handing him the keys.

I love when carb n00bs adjust idle fuel micture screws thinking it'll lean the motor down...guys.. next time you want carb advice ask someone who knows. your edelbrock/carter carb uses jets and needles in the carb to lean the mixture out, all you did was lean out the idle a little bit. Keep up the good work and I can''t wait to see this finished. Your radiator problem isn't the lose fitting, that is only functional when the cap has exceeded its pressure, I hate being old and knowing exactly what you are doing wrong, but I will tell you your problem is rust in the block it's had water in it for a long time and all that scale and rust is being loosened by the anti-freeze and is clogging your radiator tubes, the tell tale is the rusty water coming out. If you know how to use a vacuum gauge you can set your timing with it, loosen the distributor and take the line off the vacuum can and adjust the timing till you get the highest vacuum and idle, turn the idle down then tune the carb screws you leaned out erroniously to reset your idle, take the top of the carb off and get a size larger needle to lean the engine out a little for the mountains. Glad you caught the lower hose issue.

Seeing this program brings back the cross county trips I did, gas was only 25 cents a gallon when I was 18 years old. I was driving my 1962 ford F100 with a 223 engine at the best 18 MPG. I drove route 66 from California to Chicago when I felt sleepy I would just pull off the road and sleep and at night I would stop at some farm's/rancher's house and ask if I could sleep under their yard light. I would sleep on the bench seat both doors open and feet hanging out. It sure was fun doing road trips like that. If you have time to do that do it so much fun. Robby wish I was with you on that trip, It looked like so much fun. I have been so lucky in my life!

I made this same drive several years ago with my family. We started out in Augusta, GA and drove all the way to the top of Pike's Peak. Next we visited family in Salida, CO. Then we drove down to Albuquerque, NM, then up to Salt Lake City, UT then up to Pocatello, ID. Next we drove through Yellowstone National Park. Next we drove to Casper, WY, then down to Denver, and down through Kansas and Oklahoma to Dallas. We ate dinner with family in Dallas, and spent the night. We got up Sunday morning and then drove 13.5 hours back home to Augusta, GA. The trip took 10 days and nights, we passed through 18 states and drove 6000 miles in our high mileage 2007 GMC Yukon XL. It only needed one quart of oil added during the trip and it has over 200,000 miles on the original 5.3 V-8 and transmission. It was a trip of a Lifetime for us and our kids!

Walter P. Chrysler died in 1940 so, he couldn't have built the car Robbie is driving. Robbie did pretty good about judging fuel level with no gas gauge. The way Robbie was grinding that starter reminds me those gear-reduction starters Chrysler had were some of the best. I think I might have replaced 1 in 14 years of being a mechanic in the '70's. This video was almost as intertaining as Derek with Vice-Grip garage bringing home a Ford Model-A. Great video!
