Brought 2024 Outback Touring XT last July. I went to Las Vegas from Ogden Utah. I get 29.7 mpg (462 miles) on cruise control with one fill up tank and two stops. My normal average is 24 to 25 mpg. I previously own 2 Legacy, 2 Outback 2.5 and Forester 2.5. It's my first turbo and I love it. I thought about Wilderness, but I must have cool seat and digital rear-view mirror.

Would love to get a Crosstrek turbo. Won't get pushed into an Outback just for the engine.

If/when you hear whether or not the ‘26 Outback Wilderness (redesign?) will/will not be offered in a hybrid-turbo configuration, please pass that info along so I can decide if I’m going to trade in my ‘24 Outback Limited XT and buy one. I would love to have the Wilderness, but really want better gas mileage for long trips. And I’m assuming that configuration would likely bump the horsepower as well? Thanks again for another great overview!

Wilderness will most likely come a year after the Mainline Outback gets redesigned in 2026(confirmed).

not enough people talk about how this thing is comparable to the WRX in terms of speed. A sleeper in the category i feel. definitely a fast wagon.
@AutomotiveAnonymous20827 күн бұрын
Absolutely! But it’s also a shame that the WRX is no quicker than it was when first brought to the U.S. over 20 years ago haha. If you want to know how slow the Turbo Outback is CGI accelerating against a supercharged C6 Corvette I have a video of that on my channel. 😉

I have a 24 WRX Limited with stock tires. I don’t really have the room to store winter tires. What are the best all seasons to get, in your opinion. I live in northern Indiana. Thanks.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208Ай бұрын
I’m not knowledgeable enough to have a trust worthy opinion on this. In my area I really like Les Schwab for tire care and they only sell brands they personally back and include warranties on. So I would personally take their opinion or a similar ‘not cheapest tire but best tire’ focused tire dealer and installer. With that said a lot of people have told me they love the Cross Climate 2 tire, but I’m unsure that offers enough performance for your WRX! Best of luck and thanks for watching. 🙂

I have owned a 2024 Outback limited XT since January. I’m not all that fond of it. It is pretty noisy, especially on the highway. It seems to rev for no reason and the seats are not that comfortable on long trips. Just my experience though.
@johnstrand22472 ай бұрын
When you see it rev without any further acceleration, the CVT is starting to slip.

Did you say there is a lift kit that the deal can install? I’ve never heard of such a thing.
@AutomotiveAnonymous2082 ай бұрын
I would assume so but I guess it’s not a mainstream thing to do, but some specific dealers would. For example I once reviewed a dealer modified brand new Outback that they lowered ~3 or 4” on Legacy lowering springs. 😅🤷♂️ It definitely look a while to sell, but a lot of people online really liked that set up and even called them to ask how they did it.

Would frankly not be driving a Subaru if it weren't for turbo availability. Only outright dogs were the '14 and '17 Forester XT's with the then new 2.0 FA turbo (one had valve problems, the other ate sparkplugs - neigher accelerated well on hills and both fouled their tailpipes with soot. not so the 2.4T).
@AutomotiveAnonymous2082 ай бұрын
I hear you. If it wasn’t for this 2.4T engine being as good as it seems to be I also likely would have tried another platform.

Is there any information that you can give on the next generation Outback Wilderness; such as powertrain and dimensions? I currently have a 2012 Outback Limited with a 3.6 6 cylinder engine; and it has been a virtually trouble-free.
@zanzabar4ky72 ай бұрын
Your outback has a center diff with vtd. The new one will be fwd with a fluid coupling instead of a diff. You can drive all 4 wheels and road speed. The cvt ones need slip to drive the rear. I would bet $10k yours will outperform the next wilderness unless it has a rear electric motor. The current wilderness would not even be competitive with your car. There is almost no chance the next wilderness gets a center diff or they go back to locking coupling. You have the best one and likely the best gas outback suc they ever make. Keep it.
@stk6mkt2 ай бұрын
I'm seriously considering keeping it. It's got 203,000 miles, but 50% of them are highway miles. It just keeps going.
@AutomotiveAnonymous2082 ай бұрын
I don’t have any insider information other than a manager at the dealership said he was told it would be a big redesign and a slightly larger vehicle by 1-2” in length and width.

@@stk6mkt that car will do 300k easy and you can rebuild the engine after that

So, are you getting another 5th Gen 4R? Ha!! I'm still wavering. Although, the deals that could be had many months ago are gone. Dealers know they have the last of them.

I haven’t owned a 4Runner but 2 Tacomas and a Supercharged FJ. I really want a 4Runner, but for the few most legitimate reasons mentioned in this “7 Major flaws” type video I put out a few weeks ago on the 5th gen 4R I just can’t buy one. Maybe a 6th gen though!!

I wonder if WRX drivers drive them hard. Around here i noticed the WRX drivers are mostly younger drivers.
@AutomotiveAnonymous2082 ай бұрын
That’s a really good question, and I’m sure it just depends on the individual owner and how much they respect the car or their maturity level. What’s sad is all 3 of the highest performing cars I’ve owned have been the 3 to lose an engine or transmission. And all of them were overall babied. So if I ever owned a WRX I’m sure I would still baby it and probably very rarely launch it haha. But with the FA24DIT engine and a 6 speed there’s hopefully not a lot to worry about when having a bit of fun in it. 🤪😉

The WRX (and other Subaru) have historically been sold in the us with issues that should have been recalled. The 2.5 turbo from 03.5-18 had underspeced piston ringlands. That caused them to crack if there was ever predet. They fixed it and admitted it was an issue in 2018. They have used transmissions that were underspeced for the torque of the engines when paired with 3.9 or 3.7 diffs instead of the 4.11 and 4.44 they were designed to be used with in Japan. I have seen people told by the dealer 87 was fine to use in non WRX even with the turbo (it is not ok unless it is an emergency, current line up included,) and Subaru has given wrong service intervals then moved them down in service bulletins, but dealers still had the old intervals up in signage. The fa series has cars rated for 7500 miles, when it should have been 5k and was rescheduled. There was ej turbo stuff rated for 5k miles of conventional oil when it should have been 3k for conventional, 5k for synthetic and 3k synthetic for severe conditions.
@zanzabar4ky72 ай бұрын
That is not the turbo Subaru you need, the wilderness makes no sense. It does poorly off-road and gets bad milage. They are not old enough for cct issues tonpop up, but the 4.44 diffs should cause issues with the severe conditions load being brought down to like 45mph. Everyone responsible and who does maintenance on time needs a gm era one. If you can get an old legacy outback XT or legacy gt with a vtd center diff they smoke any of the SUVs off-road.
@johnkkkjАй бұрын
Who said it is bad offroad? Really? Can you point to some sources of this information?
@serenityinsilence2 ай бұрын
I avoided the turbo outback and got a 2.5 for 2 reasons. The turbo model has the highest transmission failure rates, and it limits off road capability by limiting slip more than non turbo models.
@johnkkkjАй бұрын
What are you talking about? Thr CVT in the Wilderness is different specifically for offroad use. The differentials are.also changed to lower gearing again for better low range off road. But you got an NA engine because it has less ground clearance and is somehow better off road? What alternate universe are we in?
