I think the 3 day cycle is plenty, especially for the original N64, and for porting on the 3DS. I think a really cool idea would be to have the 7 day cycle be some sort of expansion pack, or maybe identify as a new game entirely. I know that as a kid, I could barely figure out the 3 day cycle, but as an adult, I would love to have a 7 day cycle to explore the characters and map more in depth than already memorized.

Something you forgot to mention: Shigeru Miyamoto issued the challenge because Eiji Aonuma did not want to work on Miyamoto's project, which was an expansion pack of Ocarina of Time for the 64 DD with the working title of Ura Zelda, so Miyamoto issued the challenge with a stipulation: If Aonuma succeeded in making a new Zelda game in only a single year, Ura Zelda would be dropped. If I were making a time loop game that took place over a few days, it would make more sense to modularize the different variables that dictate the scale and movement rate of the moon based on the maximum amount of days allotted to make it easy to change the maximum amount of days that can take place. So the moon would always start and end in the same position and scale regardless of how many days they are, the only thing that would change would be the rate in which moon moves and grows. A system like this would allow for a maximum of 7 days to be changed to a maximum of 3 days without needing to make any changes to how the moon functions. How the moon looks on Monday would be the same on Sunday, how the moon looks on Tuesday would be comparable to how it would look on Wednesday and how it looks on Wednesday would be how it would look on Saturday. The long and short of it, if the moon where to function under the hood in this way, the starting/ending scale and location would not be any different in a 7 day period than it would in a 3 day period. The moon's scale and location of the New day would more than likely just be an exception for the cutscene. Also just because the moon does not appear in every map does not necessarily mean it is capable of being removed from the Clock town or Termina Fields maps. Some maps may be hard coded to have a set scale and location for the moon in order to be loaded. At least this is how I would do it to make changing plans later on in development easier. I could be completely incorrect about this of course. They could have very well just made the moon scale and move at a set rate every single day and have simply just moved the time table up when changing to the 3 day system.
@TheObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
I mean that is one way to do sure if they did the 7 day Cycle, but based on having a 4th size of the moon at the very least on the Sunday (if you don't wanna count the New Day Moon) then it is clear each day was to have its own size at one point. However, even if the moon was hardcoded, since they are able to scale the moon as seen with it able to change size of the model, they could also have reduced the size to 0 and thus be invisible to the eye. It's why I believe the new day moon was intentional.

Ahh majoras mask. My absolute favorite Zelda game ever made. When this game came out it utilized the expansion pak to do things no one had ever seen before. Real time lighting and rendering of all locations at the exact same time, time passing in a fluid way across the entire map, AI acting independently from the player. No longer were NPCs just scripted to stand in one place and then move later in conjunction to what the player did, each npc had their own routines and the world felt alive and breathing. As a little kid (I was 6 when this game came out) I was blown away that I could go into clock town and see a woman mourning her fiancé’s disappearance and her grandmothers false senility, and then walk out of the building and see a man walk into the mayors office full of joy and walk out with the dread of being fired and go to the bar and cry in his drink and not one time did I have to say or do anything to create that conflict these people were just living their “lives”. I had never seen anything like that before. Now add in the interesting NPCs who all have their own lives and backstories, the interesting environments that have their own stories like ikana canyon, the side quests, the masks that all had their own abilities, the dungeons, the impressive for the time graphics that were even better than ocarina of times, and the music. Yeah. This is the best Zelda game I’ve ever played and I’ve played a lot of them.

While 7 days would probably have been too convoluted to accomplish in just a year, and likely would have lessened the urgency that was meant to be instilled by the moon's impending crash, I could see them including the full week and its days into something like Botw2, maybe with NPCs having more routines that they cycle through. Perhaps a Gerudo soldier won't be in Gerudo town on certain days, instead she's found patrolling an area nearby before she goes back to residing in town for the remaining days. When I think about it, seems like not very games with day/night cycles (active or passive) have ever bothered using the day names, hence why so many titles can kind of blend together since you just know it's "another day" rather than being Monday or Thursday.

I think your map of the original 7-day cycle to the 3-day cycle probably is correct. I also think that the rationale of the 7-day cycle causing boredom or frustration is a good one, since if you needed to do one thing on Friday for example, you'd need to use the Song of Double Time quite a lot. On the other hand, it's too bad that they didn't have the moon start further at that furthest-away position on day 1 and proceed down to the full size by the end of day 3; this would've been creepier and more alarming in my opinion.

It'll also solve the frustrating time limit that let many hate the game. If there is a remake it should bring 7 days back.

@@TheObsessiveGamer Not sure why some dislike on the 3ds one much even tho thought it was cool
@ibriselric23 жыл бұрын
While I do love the way Majora's came out and those three days are a sweet spot considering the limitations they had to work with they managed to give some QOL updates (and a couple godawful downgrades) to the 3DS Remake like being able to jump to a specific time with the Song of Double Time instead of it being locked to jumping to the next 6 o'clock marker or the expanded Bomber's Notebook -as well as not needing to chase the five little buggers again if you didn't know you could just use the passcode again to waltz back in after recovering the Ocarina-. So with that in mind I sure as hell wouldn't mind it if they did an expanded reboot considering they'd have more powerful tech to work with now. Imagine what they could do these days with a 7-day cycle.
@TheObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
Yeah if they took some of the good stuff they did with the 3DS version and expanded to 7 days, we'd have one very nice and reasonable 7 day cycle to go with, without feeling too hard to remember thanks to the notebook and able to pick whatever day to skip to

7 days would have been way better. As a kid I had to play a song to slow the game down. As an adult I plan to beat it normally some day.
@TheObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
yeahh we did cut time in half as is which brought us a lot closer to what would have naturally been 7 days anyways this way lol Makes you think that the reason we usually always had to play that was cause they already had planned the events to the next dungeon to span the 7 days.

Would the Nintendo 64 even have enough power to be able to handle a 7-day cycle?

Majoras mask is an amazing game the best way to play it is with an original gamecube controller in the wii virtual console, and the gamecube version is also very good in the collectors edition, but the 3ds remake was not as good everything was simplified like the swim mechanic which is amazing in the og game, and the atmosphere is garbage being super bright
@TheObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
I liked some parts of the 3DS version better like I feel the boss fights were better done and made a bit tougher. I agree the swimming as Zora Link was worse

Oh dear... The moment this started I recognised you from the last video you made, and not in a good way. You must have misunderstood my last comment, because you still sound like you're shouting. You still sound like you're giving a presentatiion to a class instead of talking to me. And whilst realistically, you ARE giving a presentation to 1000s of people, we're all basically listening to you as if we were at a table together. If you imagine talking to one person instead, I think you'll have a better time getting your tone right. Even when I turn the volume down, you still sound like you're shouting. Only with a low volume, you now sound more distant, so that's not fixed it at all. So you need to just work on softening your voice. No-one likes being shouted to. Sorry to complain about the same thing again. I really like these videos, and I'm going to keep watching them. So I just want to see you improve.
@TheObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't hear myself shouting in this personally, so I am unsure really of what you mean? I am trying to better my voice of course but it may take a bit of time as these things take time to adjust
