Do you have any plans to make a video on the subject of Bechbretha? As a former student of Celtic Studies, I'm really enjoying these videos as a refresher course.

This was a brilliant breakdown of a very complex subject. Reading the Uraicecht na Ríar can be a real challenge and this would be a great companion to that study for anyone. I am curious if you feel that this kind of study program could be re-made for today?

7 circles in the seed of life (7 day creation) where in the centre pointing upwards you will find the so called triquetra. Is this arbitrary..?

May I ask which main manuscripts you're drawing from in all those details? I would always read more simplified accounts of the seven grades in books, and one day I started to dig through the Irish texts page on Mary Jones to see where they were getting it all from. The only thing I found was the Do Nemthigud Filed, but that only tells us how many tales each grade had to know. It's pretty hard to study early Ireland and not knkw about the dindesenchas, so that wasn't very surprising at all, but I'm especially interested in the more obscure details you discussed. Like where can I learn more about these "shieldings" and "venerations"?

Most (and more) of this information is given in this reference (and its references): Ancient Laws of Ireland, Volume V, Uraicecht Becc- The Small Primer, Alexander Thom & Co. Dublin, 1901, pp. 57-75.

There were female Bards noted in history. Why are you only referring to the Fili as male?
@odubhainsr

There were indeed female Filidh (Poets above the Bards) in Ireland. There were also female Seers and Druids. Maybe this is because there were also female warriors and rulers?

How is a King the final authority of granting the degree if the King has, as most have done, abused others, shed blood, treated others unfairly and chances are uneducated and ignorant. Most kingships are granted, given or taken by heredity or by force. How is the king qualified?
@odubhainsr
@odubhainsr 4 жыл бұрын
The king comes from the ruling family and retains his office in an Irish tribe by virtue of his truth which provides prosperity to the land and the people. If the king has no truth which violates the bond between him and the land goddess, there is no prosperity and the king is removed by his people. It is not like the current or recent state of affairs.
